Epworth, Iowa

The Zephaniah Kidder House is a historic building located in Epworth, Iowa, United States. A Maine native, Kidder settled in Iowa in 1853 after spending time in California. He was one of three men who established the town of Epworth on their land holdings in 1855. Kidder was also instrumental in founding the Epworth Seminary, and was involved in a variety of business ventures. Kidder was involved in the construction of this house, completed in 1868. It is a 2½-story structure built of locally produced brick. The house features a symmetrical plan, side gable roof, bracketed eaves, and two interior brick chimneys. The main facade is three bays wide, with protruding bay windows on the first floor, and the main entrance has sidelights and transom that is covered by a flat-roofed porch. The second floor has windows with keystone drip moldings. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Epworth School, also known as the Epworth Elementary School, was a historic building located in Epworth, Iowa, United States. The Iowa Legislature required a high school education for all students in 1911. The school districts that did not have a high school were required to pay their student's tuition in a district that did. This building was a result of that legislation. Architecturally, the building was a transitional structure between the more decorative styles of the late 19th century and the less ornate styles of the 20th century. Independence, Iowa architect Harry E. Netcott designed the combination Colonial Revival/Romanesque Revival building, and John G. Miller was the contractor. Built in 1917, classes were first held here in January 1918. It initially housed all grades until 1962, when it was converted into an elementary school. After the local school district had built a new building, its last day as a school was May 30, 2003. The City of Epworth acquired the building, and the Epworth Community Historical Society occupied the building. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. Because of maintenance issues, the city decided to take down the building in 2011. The property is now occupied by Tower Park.

Founded in 1964, It educates students for missionary service in the Catholic Church as priests, brothers, sisters, and laypersons. It is owned and operated by the Society of the Divine Word (SVD).

The population was 1,908 in the 2020 census, an increase of 193% from 651 in 2000. Peosta experienced a 70% increase in population (estimated) from 2000 to 2007, making it the state's 10th fastest-growing city during that period. Peosta is currently the sixth-largest city in Dubuque County. The community is home to the 2015 ASA D Northern Nationals Men's Slow Pitch Champions, Kass & Company, a large industrial park, the largest campus of Northeast Iowa Community College, and a handful of new commercial businesses. The city is increasingly becoming a bedroom community, much like nearby Asbury, made up of suburban subdivisions.

New Melleray Abbey (Abbey of Our Lady of New Melleray) is a Trappist monastery located near Dubuque, Iowa. The abbey is located about 15 miles (24 km) southwest of Dubuque and is in the Archdiocese of Dubuque. Currently, the Abbey is home to about 16 monks. Several of the monks work in their business, Trappist Caskets, and some of their food comes from the garden behind the Abbey. The superior of the monastery is Dom Brendan Freeman, who was appointed by Father Immediate McCarthy in December 2021 after consulting the community.

MLB at Field of Dreams is a recurring Major League Baseball (MLB) regular-season game played in a ballpark adjacent to Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa, a site popularized by the 1989 baseball film Field of Dreams. The first edition of the game was played on August 12, 2021, with the Chicago White Sox defeating the New York Yankees, 9–8. The second edition of the game was played August 11, 2022, with the Chicago Cubs defeating the Cincinnati Reds, 4–2. Both games were held on the second Thursday of August. Future games are on hold while a new youth baseball and softball complex is under construction at the Field of Dreams site.
