Cloie Branch (sometimes referred to as Cloie Creek) is a 5.4-mile-long (8.7 km) tributary of the Little Maquoketa River, rising in the northern part of the city of Asbury, in Dubuque County, Iowa. Burgeoning suburban development in the city of Asbury has encroached the upper reaches of the system. The northern end of the system is rural. Asbury's sewer outfall drains into the creek and mechanical failures have in the past lead to the discharge of only partially treated sewage.

Sherrill is a city in Dubuque County, Iowa, United States. The population was 189 at the time of the 2020 census, up from 186 in 2000.

The Sherrill Mount House, also known as the Fries Hotel, Moundside Apartments, and The Inn at Sherrill, is a historic building located in Sherrill, Iowa, United States. This is one of the few surviving pre-Civil War hotels left in Iowa, and one of the largest early stone structures remaining in rural Dubuque County. The three-story building is composed of native limestone with a cupola on top of the hip roof. It was built along a stagecoach route that traveled along the Mississippi River. At one time it was situated on a 40-acre (16 ha) plot of land on which were several out buildings for an agricultural operation that included an orchard and vineyard. The building also served the community as a post office and meeting hall. Before national prohibition in 1919 the inn included a beer garden, tavern and dance hall. It was at this time that the building was converted into an apartment building. It has subsequently been converted into a bed and breakfast called the Black Horse Inn. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

Asbury is a city in Dubuque County, Iowa, United States, and adjacent to the westside of the city of Dubuque. It is part of the Dubuque, Iowa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 5,943 at the 2020 census. Asbury is the second-largest city in Dubuque County, surpassing Dyersville to become the second-largest in the 2010 U.S. Census count. The city is largely a bedroom community, made up of subdivisions whose residents work in Dubuque or Peosta.

The Little Maquoketa River Mounds State Preserve is an Iowa state owned archaeological site and natural area located within the city of Sageville, just north of Dubuque, on U.S. Highway 52. It is high up on a limestone ridge above the Little Maquoketa River, not too far from the river's mouth with the Upper Mississippi River. Covering about 42 acres (170,000 m2), it contains a fenced-in 3-acre (12,000 m2) burial area with 32 mounds. The graves have been related to the Late Woodland culture, about AD 700-1200. Significant consultation went on with Native American tribes regarding the establishment of the preserve. The land was purchased by the Iowa Department of Transportation in 1977, and in 1981, it became a state archaeological and geological preserve. By agreement with the state, the Dubuque County Conservation Board maintains and administers the area. The remainder of the preserve functions as a park with a hiking trail, featuring mature forest and a segment of native blufftop prairie. As a part of the Driftless Area of Iowa, it has some geologically interesting areas, particularly the high limestone bluffs. There is a parking lot. Access is year-round.

Sageville is a city in Dubuque County, Iowa, United States. The population was 95 at the time of the 2020 census, down from 203 in 2000.

The Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, or Marshall Park, is a 56 acres (230,000 m2) arboretum and botanical gardens established in 1980. The park's address is 3800 Arboretum Drive, Dubuque, Iowa. It is open, without charge, daily from dawn to dusk throughout the year. The arboretum is the largest in the United States staffed entirely by volunteers. About 300 community volunteers help maintain the gardens.

The Couler Valley is a valley near Dubuque, Iowa, and has the Bee Branch Creek, previously known as the Couler Creek, located in it. It is about 5 miles (8.0 km) long. It is found in the Driftless Area.

Heritage Trail is a 26-mile (42 km) long, multiuse rail trail connecting Dubuque and Dyersville, Iowa.It is maintained by the Dubuque County Conservation Board, and was converted from a segment of the former Chicago Great Western railroad line between Chicago and Oelwein, Iowa. It is surfaced with compacted, crushed limestone.

The Dunleith and Dubuque Bridge, also known as the White Water Creek Bridge and the Bergfeld Recreation Area Bridge, is a historic structure located in Dubuque, Iowa, United States. This span was part of a seven-span approach to one of the first bridges constructed over the Mississippi River. It was part of a railroad bridge that connected Dubuque with Dunleith, Illinois, now known as East Dubuque. The bridge was fabricated by the Keystone Bridge Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Andrew Carnegie himself traveled to Dubuque to advocate for his company to build the bridge. The bridge was erected by Reynolds, Saulpaugh and Company of Rock Island, Illinois. The approach, of which this iron truss was a part, was completed in 1872. It was used by the Illinois Central and other railroads. By the end of the 19th century the bridge was no longer strong enough to carry the heavier trains then in use, and it was replaced. Dubuque County acquired two of the approach spans, including this one, in 1890. One was placed over the Cloie Branch of the Maquoketa River near Sageville. This one was placed over White Water Creek east of Cascade. In 1996 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The span was removed in 1999 and stored at a nearby farm until 2010 when it was moved to the Bergfeld Recreation Area in western Dubuque. The White Water Creek Bridge was removed from the National Register in 2012. It was relisted as the Dunleith and Dubuque Bridge the following year.

Stephen Hempstead High School (commonly Hempstead or HHS) is a four-year public high school located in Dubuque, Iowa. It is one of two high schools in the Dubuque Community School District and enrolls around 1,800 students in grades 9–12. The school is named in honor of Stephen Hempstead, the second governor of Iowa, and it competes in class 4A of the Iowa High School Athletic Association as part of the Mississippi Valley Conference. The school's mascot is the Mustang.

Center Township is one of seventeen townships in Dubuque County, Iowa, United States. As of the 2000 census, its population was 1,726.
