Ivoryton is one of three villages in Essex, Connecticut in Middlesex County. Ivoryton Historic District, the historic district in the village, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 15, 2014.The Ivoryton Playhouse, which is separately listed on the Register, is located within the district.

In its 2011 edition, Newsweek magazine named Valley Regional as one of "America's Best High Schools," ranking 334th out of 500 nationally.

Essex is a town in Middlesex County, Connecticut, United States. The town is part of the Lower Connecticut River Valley Planning Region. The population was 6,733 at the 2020 census. It is made up of three villages: Essex Village, Centerbrook, and Ivoryton.

Centerbrook is a hamlet located in the town of Essex, Connecticut. The village is home to numerous businesses, the Essex Steam Train, a post office, and Essex Elementary School. It has many houses but it is generally considered the more commercial part of Essex.The village consists of the area immediately west of the Route 9 expressway, extending southwest along Route 153 to Tiffany Brook, west along Main Street to Earl Street, and north along Route 154 to Route 9.

The Centerbrook Congregational Church, also known as the Centerbrook Meeting House, is a historic church at 51 Main Street in the Centerbrook village of Essex, Connecticut. It is a single-story wood-frame structure resting on a granite foundation, which is set on a knoll on the north side of Connecticut Route 153. The main block was built in 1790, making it the oldest known church in Middlesex County and one of the oldest in the entire state. The building added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

The Benjamin Bushnell Farm is a historic farm property in Essex, Connecticut. Developed around 1790, the property includes a well-preserved Federal period farmhouse, and a rare example of a 19th-century cranberry house. The farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The town center is designated by the U.S. Census Bureau as a census-designated place (CDP). Deep River is part of what the locals call the "Tri-town Area", made up of the towns of Deep River, Chester, and Essex.

The Essex Freight Station is a railroad station located in the Centerbrook village of Essex, Connecticut. Built in 1915, it is a well-preserved example of period railroad-related architecture. It now serves as a station on the resurrected Connecticut Valley Railroad, which provides excursion steam train trips. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 19, 1994.

The Deep River Town Hall is located at the junction of Connecticut Routes 80 and 154 in Deep River, Connecticut. Completed in 1893, it is unusual for its distinctively urban styling in a quiet rural suburban community. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 1, 1976.

Deep River Center is a census-designated place (CDP) comprising the primary village in the town of Deep River, Middlesex County, Connecticut, United States. It is in the east-central part of the town, bordered to the north by the town of Chester, to the south by the town of Essex, to the east by Pratt Cove, and to the northeast by the Connecticut River. As of the 2020 census, Deep River Center had a population of 2,765, out of 4,415 in the entire town of Deep River.

The Preserve is a 963-acre open space preserve spanning the towns of Old Saybrook, Essex, and Westbrook, Connecticut. The property is owned by the State of Connecticut, Town of Old Saybrook, and the Essex Land Trust. It was protected in 2015 by The Trust for Public Land after an agreement to purchase the property from River Sound Development, LLC, was reached in 2013.According to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, The Preserve, prior to its protection, was "the largest remaining unprotected coastal forest between Boston and New York." The Essex Land Trust notes that The Preserve's protected ecosystems include wetlands, vernal pools, and mature coastal forests and that it is home to a diverse population of "25 species of amphibians, 30 kinds of mammals and 57 different birds". It plays an important role in maintaining the water quality of Trout Brook, as well as the Oyster and Mud rivers. Ten miles of hiking trails span northern and central parts of the property.

The Pratt, Read and Company Factory Complex is an historic industrial facility located in Deep River, Connecticut. Established in 1863 by Pratt-Read and significantly enlarged in 1914, it was one of the principal sites of ivory processing in Connecticut, producing combs, buttons, and piano keys. The complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 30, 1984. It has been converted to residences.
