Eastern Avenue is one of three boundary streets between Washington, D.C., and the state of Maryland. It follows a northwest-to-southeast line, beginning at the intersection of 16th Street NW (a north-south street in the District of Columbia) and Colesville Road (a street in Montgomery County in the state of Maryland). It intersects with Blair Road NW, and ceases to exist for about 1,000 feet (300 m). Another interruption occurs at Cedar Street NW. A 3,000-foot (910 m) interruption occurs again at Galloway Street NE, where the park land of the North Michigan Park Recreation Center exists. It continues without interruption until it reaches Bladensburg Road NE. There is a 1.8-mile (2.9 km) interruption in the avenue along Fort Lincoln Cemetery. The avenue has no crossing over New York Avenue NE or the Anacostia River, or through Anacostia Park. It resumes at Kenilworth Avenue NE, with its terminus at its junction with Southern Avenue. Several historic or important buildings are located on Eastern Avenue, and a number of important people once lived on the street. Eastern Avenue forms one of the borders of the Deanwood neighborhood in the District of Columbia, a historic African American community. Several historically important Deanwood-area churches and schools are located on Eastern Avenue. William Pittman, one of the United States' first African American architects and a son-in-law of Booker T. Washington, lived on Eastern Avenue. The Lucinda Cady House (also known as the Cady-Lee House), located at 7064 Eastern Avenue NW, is a restored Queen Anne-Victorian style home built in 1887 which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The headquarters of the missionary arm and the relief agency of the worldwide Seventh-day Adventist Church were once located at 6840 Eastern Avenue NW.Eastern Avenue bridges the Anacostia Freeway after its junction with Kenilworth Avenue. The Eastern Avenue Bridge has a clearance of 14 feet (4.3 m), and semi-trailer trucks have struck the bridge numerous times. In November 2009, the District of Columbia announced that it would spend $10.4 million in stimulus funds to replace the bridge with a new precast, 16-foot (4.9 m) high bridge to address these safety concerns.Eastern Avenue appears in several works of crime fiction, because of the higher rate of crime in some of the neighborhoods through which it passes. It is significantly featured in Jim Beame's 2006 short crime story, "Jeannette." Noted Washington, D.C., crime author George Pelecanos used it as a location in his 1996 novel The Big Blowdown, and so did Montana-born author James Grady in his 2007 novel, Mad Dogs.

The Takoma Park Presbyterian Church is a Presbyterian Church located in Takoma Park, Maryland. The church was founded in 1888 as the Union Chapel.

The Takoma Park Historic District is a national historic district located at Takoma Park, Montgomery County, Maryland. The district area was platted in 1883 by developer Benjamin Franklin Gilbert, and promoted for its natural environment and healthy setting. Originally an early railroad suburb, the opening of streetcar lines led to the expansion of the district in the early 20th century. Takoma Park houses built between 1883 and 1900 are fanciful, turreted, multi-gabled affairs of Queen Anne architecture with Stick Style and Shingle Style influence. Buildings developed after the turn of the 20th century tend to be 1-2 story brick structures with simple ornamentation, although a few display characteristics of such styles as Art Deco and Tudor Revival.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

Takoma is a Washington Metro station on the Red Line in the Takoma neighborhood of Washington, D.C., bordering Takoma Park, Maryland. The station is considered to be located in part of Takoma Park's Historic District. It is the last station in the District of Columbia on the eastern end of the Red Line heading to Maryland, located east of the intersection of Blair Road NW and Cedar Street NW. The station's parking lot and bus stops are accessed from Eastern Avenue NW, which runs along the DC–Maryland line.

Cady-Lee is an historic house located in the Takoma neighborhood in Washington, D.C. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1975 as the Lucinda Cady House. The house is named for Lucinda Cady and her daughter Mary Lee who both owned the house.

The Takoma Park Neighborhood Library is part of the District of Columbia Public Library (DCPL) System. It was opened to the public in 1911.

Takoma, Washington, D.C., is a neighborhood in Washington, D.C. It is located in Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4B, in the District's Fourth Ward, within the northwest quadrant. It borders the city of Takoma Park, Maryland.

Calvin Coolidge High School is a public high school of the District of Columbia Public Schools system located in the Takoma neighborhood in the Northwest quadrant of Washington, D.C. Its campus is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Manor Park is a neighborhood in Ward 4 of northwest Washington, D.C. The National Capital Planning Commission 1967 "District Communities" map indicates this neighborhood is roughly bounded between 8th Street NW to the west, North Capitol Street NW, Blair Road NW, and the Washington Metropolitan Area Red Line train tracks to the east, Rittenhouse Street NW to the north, and Missouri Avenue NW to the south. Manor Park borders the adjacent neighborhoods of Takoma Park, Brightwood, and Brightwood Park in NW Washington D.C. and also borders the Riggs Park neighborhood in NE Washington D.C. In 1940, the Manor Park Citizens Association deemed the boundaries to be Eighth Street, Whittier Street, North Capitol Street, and Concord Street (now Missouri Avenue).Residential and not very suburban, Manor Park is largely characterized by rowhouses, detached and semi-detached houses, and small neighborhood businesses. Many of the homes were built in the 1920s. There are also swaths of park land cutting through the neighborhood, including Fort Slocum Park. In 1923, the Manor Park Citizens Association formed to improve the neighborhood. Manor Park had mostly dirt roads until at least 1926. For many years, Manor Park was not connected by road to Takoma until Fourth and Fifth Streets were extended to connect the two neighborhoods in 1926.

Fort Stevens Ridge is a neighborhood in Northwest Washington, D.C. built during the 1920s. The neighborhood comprises about 50 acres (0.20 km2) and is very roughly bounded by Peabody Street, Fifth Street, Underwood Street, and Ninth Street. As of the 2010 census, the neighborhood had 2,597 residents. It was named for nearby Fort Stevens, a Civil War-era fort used to defend the nation's capital from invasion by Confederate soldiers.

Takoma Park is a city in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. It is a suburb of Washington, and part of the Washington metropolitan area. Founded in 1883 and incorporated in 1890, Takoma Park, informally called "Azalea City", is a Tree City USA and a nuclear-free zone. A planned commuter suburb, it is situated along the Metropolitan Branch of the historic Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, just northeast of Washington, D.C., and it shares a border and history with the adjacent Washington, D.C. neighborhood of Takoma. It is governed by an elected mayor and six elected councilmembers, who form the city council, and an appointed city manager, under a council-manager style of government. The city's population was 17,629 at the 2020 census.Since 2013, residents of Takoma Park can vote in municipal elections when they turn sixteen. It was the first city in the United States to extend voting rights to 16- and 17-year-olds in city elections. Since then, the City of Hyattsville has followed suit.

Battleground National Cemetery is a military burial ground, located along Georgia Avenue near Fort Stevens, in Washington, D.C.'s Brightwood neighborhood. The cemetery is managed by the National Park Service, together with other components of Rock Creek Park.
