Seaton Valley Countryside Park

Seaton (Cornish: Sethyn, meaning little arrow after the river) is a village on the south coast of Cornwall, England, at the mouth of the River Seaton 3.8 miles (6.1 km) east of Looe and ten miles (16 km) west of Plymouth. The village is in the civil parish of Deviock.The village stretches inland along the River Seaton valley. It has two pubs, a beach café. Seaton beach is mostly shingle and stretches from the river to the village of Downderry a mile to the east. Seaton Valley Countryside Park, one of four Country Parks in Cornwall, is immediately to the north of the village. The park includes a nature trail that can be followed for nearly two miles north to Hessenford. A Monkey Sanctuary with a colony of woolly monkeys and other rescued primates is two miles to the west. A station was to be built at Seaton as part of the proposed St Germans & Looe Railway in the late 1930s, but the railway was abandoned without the station having been built.

The River Seaton is a river in east Cornwall, England, UK which flows southwards for 11 miles (17 km) into the English Channel. The river rises near Caradon Hill and flows generally south past Darite, Menheniot and Hessenford and a few miles farther south into the sea at Seaton Beach, west of Downderry. The river has been dug into channels in its lower reaches which has sped the flow of the water up and straightened the curves out. Additionally, because of the mining history around Bodmin Moor, the water is polluted with traces of aluminium and copper; both these effects have led to smaller populations of wildlife inhabiting the river.There is an early record of the river as "Seythyn" in 1302; the name means "little arrow river".

Deviock is a coastal civil parish in south-east Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is situated approximately three miles (5 km) west of St Germans and straddles the valley of the River Seaton. The parish includes the settlements of Hessenford, Seaton and Downderry and the population in the 2001 census was 1341, increasing to 1,420 at the 2011 census. The parish occupies an area of 2,108 hectares (approx 5,000 acres). The hamlets of Narkurs and Trelowia are also in the parish.

Hessenford (Cornish: Rys an Gwraghes) is a small village in south-east Cornwall, United Kingdom, four miles west of St Germans on the A387 Polbathic to Polperro road. The village had a population of 170 at the 2001 census. It is in the civil parish of Deviock. The river Seaton runs through the village and a mill was recorded here in 1286; the last mill closing in the mid-20th century. Hessenford is part of the united parishes of St Germans, Hessenford, Downderry and Tideford. St Anne's Church was built in 1832 as a chapel of ease in the parish of St Germans to serve the growing population of the village. It was built by local subscription, local labour and materials, and was dedicated on 26 September 1833, the perpetual curate being appointed by the vicar of Saint Germans. Hessenford became a parish in its own right by "Order in Council" in 1852 and in 1855 and 1871 the church was rebuilt in early English style. The lychgates, a gift, were built in 1905, the original gates being used for the entrance to the church yard. A station was to be built at Hessenford as part of the proposed St Germans & Looe Railway in the late 1930s, but the railway was abandoned without the station having been built.The Seaton Valley Countryside Park is to the south of the village following the river valley to the coast at Seaton.

St Anne's Church is a parish church in the village of Hessenford in Cornwall. It is dedicated to St Anne, the mother of the Virgin Mary. The church is in the Archdeaconry of Bodmin, in the Diocese of Truro. The church is largely the work of J P St Aubyn, and is Grade II listed.

Downderry (Cornish: Downderri) is a coastal village in southeast Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is situated 12 miles (19 km) west of Plymouth and one mile east of Seaton.Downderry has a long beach of light shingle. There is road access down to the beach via a slipway although this is blocked by a locked gate, pedestrian access is still possible. Dogs are allowed on the beach. The beach further east is a nudist beach.The village and beach offer views of Looe Island to the west and Rame Head to the east and on clear days the Eddystone Lighthouse 8 miles (13 km) offshore. The village has a Church of England church, a Methodist chapel, a shop with a post office, a pub, a restaurant, a coffee shop and a primary school. The Church of St Nicolas Downderry began as a mission church to service the growing population of the village. The building dates from the late 19th century.

The Monkey Sanctuary was founded in 1964 by Len Williams, father of classical guitarist John Williams, as a cooperative to care for rescued woolly monkeys. Based in Looe, Cornwall, England, the sanctuary is home to woolly monkeys that are descended from the original rescued pets, a growing number of capuchin monkeys rescued from the current UK pet trade, and a small group of rescued Barbary macaques. The monkeys live in large enclosures that the general public can view during the Sanctuary's open season in the summer months. There is a colony of rare lesser horseshoe bats living in the cellar of Murrayton House, a 19th-century building that is the visitors' centre and accommodation for staff and volunteers. The bats can be observed from the "bat cave", a room that shows CCTV footage from an infrared camera installed in the cellar.The Monkey Sanctuary is the flagship project of Wild Futures (UK registered Charity number 1102532). Wild Futures is dedicated to promoting the welfare, conservation and survival of primates. Wild Futures campaigns to end the primate trade in the UK and abroad, and to end the abuse of primates in captivity. Through talking to visitors, schools and other groups, they aim to educate the public and raise awareness about the issues primates face in captivity and in the wild, and to promote and support conservation efforts worldwide.

Widegates is a village in south-east Cornwall, England, UK, about 4 miles north of Looe. It is on the A387 road about two miles west of Hessenford.The centre of the village lacks any sort of local amenity but there is a nearby farm shop on its outskirts. Widegates has a population of approximately 500.

Bake (Cornish: Pobas) is a hamlet in south-east Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) west of St Germans at grid reference SX 321 585, 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) south-west of the A38/A374 Trerulefoot roundabout.Bake is the seat of the Moyle family (although Bake itself is in the civil parish of Deviock) and St German's Priory has a mortuary chapel for the Moyle family of Bake.West of the manor house, a steep tree-lined valley called Bake Wood runs down to the River Seaton. At the top of the valley, seven artificial lakes are commercially operated as Bake Fishing Lakes providing coarse fishing and fly fishing.There is also a place called Bake in the civil parish of Pelynt.

Bake Fishing Lakes (grid reference SX318587); also known as Bake Lakes, Bake Farm Lakes or Bake Pools; is the name for a group of lakes at Bake Farm, near Trerulefoot, Cornwall, England, UK. There are seven lakes in total; they are used for angling, and are stocked with a variety of fish species. The site is known among dragonfly enthusiasts as one of the first sites in Britain where the Lesser Emperor was recorded as breeding, in 1999 (Pellow 2000).

Catchfrench is a hamlet in Cornwall, England. It is about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north of Hessenford.Catchfrench Manor is a late 18th-century house by Charles Rawlinson of Lostwithiel. It was built on part of the site of the old manor house. In the 20th century the south end of the house was demolished. The ruins of the 16th-century house are to the south.

Narkurs is a hamlet in the south east of Cornwall, England. It is part of the civil parish of Deviock. It is about 2 km southeast of Hessenford. Historically an agricultural settlement, Narkurs has become smaller as this industry has declined, and in 2007 consisted of only 20 homes.
