St. Mary's High School (Lynn, Massachusetts)

The Lynn Masonic Hall is a historic Masonic building located at 64-68 Market Street in Lynn, Massachusetts. The four story brick building was built in 1880 for the Lynn branch of YMCA. It is one of two surviving Victorian Gothic buildings in downtown Lynn. YMCA occupied the building until 1907, when it moved to other quarters (no longer extant) across the street. The building was sold to the local Masonic lodge.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The Lynn Memorial City Hall and Auditorium is a large Art Deco building that defines the civic heart of Lynn, Massachusetts. The building serves three functions: first, it houses the city's principal offices, including the mayor's office, as well as the chambers of the city council. Second, it memorializes the city's fallen in the nation's military conflicts. Third, it houses a large public performance space, with a seating capacity over 2,000. It is located at Three City Hall Square.The building was constructed in 1948-49 by the M.A. Dyer Company and John Bowen Company. Lynn's mayor Albert Cole was the driving force behind the design and construction of the building, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

The Lynn Public Library building is a historic library at Five North Common Street in Lynn, Massachusetts. Although library services were offered in Lynn as early 1815, it was not until a bequest in 1896 that the city began planning a permanent home for the growing collection. After some controversy, library trustees chose a Renaissance Revival design by local architect George A. Moore, who happened to be related to one of the library trustees. Controversy also attended the size and scale of the building, along with the removal of trees at its site on the town common. It was completed at a cost of $175,000, which included no public funding.Construction of the library began in 1898 and it was opened in 1900. In 1900 the library commissioned the first mural of F. Luis Mora, a prominent Hispanic American artist. The library was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, and included in the Lynn Common Historic District in 1992.

The Munroe Street Historic District encompasses some of the few commercial buildings to survive in downtown Lynn, Massachusetts from the mid 19th century. The district includes properties on Munroe Street between Market and Washington Streets, which was spared by the 1889 fire that destroyed much of Lynn's downtown area. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

The G.A.R. Hall and Museum is a historic museum at 58 Andrew Street in Lynn, Massachusetts. The four story Romanesque brick building was built in 1885 by contractor Frank G. Kelly to the design of the Lynn firm Wheeler & Northend for the General Frederick W. Lander Post 5 of the Grand Army of the Republic, an American Civil War veterans organization. It has two storefronts on the ground floor, offices and a library with spaces for 1500 volumes on the second floor, and a large 46'10" x 56'4" meeting hall on the upper two floors. The roofline originally had ornate brick crenellations, but these were removed in the mid 20th century. The first two floors have also been altered over time, but the meeting hall remains in nearly original condition.The building was constructed with incandescent electric lighting by the Thomson-Houston Electric Company, which had moved to Lynn two years prior.With declining membership in the organization, the building was turned over to the city in 1919 by a Special Act of the Massachusetts Legislature. The city operates it as a museum.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.The building is the earliest known work by Holman K. Wheeler, who designed and constructed more than 400 structures in Lynn and surrounding towns, including residences, schools, commercial and factory buildings, and monuments. A total of five H. K. Wheeler structures in Lynn are listed on the National Register. The father of co-architect William Wheelwright Northend, Massachusetts State Senator William Dummer Northend, while attending Governor Dummer Academy as a child, became longtime friends with General Frederick W. Lander for whom the Lynn G.A.R. Post is named. In 2018, a fundraising campaign was started to raise as much as $10 million for needed repairs, renovations, and preservation of the museum's collection. Plans include making the building ADA compliant with additions such as an elevator. An updated climate control system is also needed to preserve the museum artifacts.The museum was named one of the top 11 most endangered historic resources in Massachusetts for 2018 by Preservation Massachusetts.

The Grand Army of the Republic Hall, also known as the General Frederick W. Lander Post No. 5, Grand Army of the Republic, is an historic building located at 58 Andrew Street in Lynn, Massachusetts, in the United States. The hall was built in 1885 by members of the Grand Army of the Republic as a meeting hall and memorial to the Union Army veterans of the Civil War. Of many such halls built in the country, the Lynn GAR Hall is the largest. Only 13 remain nationwide, and only this one in Massachusetts.On May 7, 1979, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The hall is now the Grand Army of the Republic Museum.

The Lynn Armory is a historic armory building at 36 South Common Street in Lynn, Massachusetts. It is one of the best examples of Romanesque Revival architecture in the city. It was built in 1893 out of red sandstone to a design by Wheeler & Northend. It features a head house measuring 68 feet (21 m) wide and 86 feet (26 m) deep, behind which is a drill shed that is 127 feet (39 m) long. The principal features of the facade are designed to evoke a fortified castle: circular towers 22 feet (6.7 m) flank the entrance, and the towers and the front facade are topped by a crenellated parapet.The armory was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, and included in the Lynn Common Historic District in 1992. A total of five Holman K. Wheeler structures in Lynn are listed on the National Register. In August 2018, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker signed into law a bill approving the sale of the armory to a non-profit organization that plans to renovate the facility into apartments for military veterans.

The Old Post Office Building is a historic building in Lynn, Massachusetts. The two-story Colonial Revival building was built in 1897 to serve as the growing city's new post office. It is one of the city's best examples of Colonial Revival styling, and features distinctive copper sheathed domes. The building was expanded c. 1912 with a wing in the back, and replaced by the present post office in 1933. It has since been used principally as an office building.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.

The Vamp Building is a historic factory building at 3-15 Liberty Square in downtown Lynn, Massachusetts. The eight story brick building was built in 1903 as the Lynn Realty Company Building #4 to a design by local architect Henry Warren Rogers, and was extended over the next four years to occupy the entire city block bounded by Washington Street, Union Street, and Liberty Square. The "flatiron" V-shape of the building was the basis for its name, as it resembles the shape of the vamp of a shoe. The building served in its early years as a home for all manner of businesses related to the manufacture of shoes. At the time of its construction it was the largest brick building of its kind in the world.The building suffered relatively little damage in the fire of November 28, 1981, losing only its top floor. The strong construction and newly installed sprinkler system were credited with limiting the scope of destruction of the fire, preventing the blaze from reaching farther into the city.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, and is one of three registered buildings in Lynn designed by Henry Warren Rogers.

Lynn is the eighth-largest municipality in Massachusetts, United States, and the largest city in Essex County. Situated on the Atlantic Ocean, 3.7 miles (6.0 km) north of the Boston city line at Suffolk Downs, Lynn is part of Greater Boston's urban inner core.Settled by Europeans in 1629, Lynn is the 5th oldest colonial settlement in the Commonwealth. An early industrial center, Lynn was long colloquially referred to as the "City of Sin", owing to its historical reputation for crime and vice. Today, however, the city is known for its contemporary public art, immigrant population, historic architecture, downtown cultural district, loft-style apartments, and public parks and open spaces, which include the oceanfront Lynn Shore Reservation; the 2,200-acre, Frederick Law Olmsted-designed Lynn Woods Reservation; and the High Rock Reservation and Park designed by Olmsted's sons. Lynn also is home to Lynn Heritage State Park, the southernmost portion of the Essex Coastal Scenic Byway, and the seaside, National Register-listed Diamond Historic District. The population was 101,253 at the 2020 United States census.

St. Stephen's Memorial Episcopal Church is parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts in Lynn, Massachusetts founded in 1844. It is noted for its historic church at 74 South Common Street. Completed in 1881, the church is of a Romanesque Revival design by Ware & Van Brunt. It was built as a memorial to the children of Enoch Reddington Mudge of Swampscott, member of a leading Lynn family. It was built of granite quarried from Mudge's Swampscott estate, and trimmed with red brick and stone. The interior is richly decorated, with parquet and mosaic floors, carved timber ends, and a number of stained glass windows.The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as St. Stephen's Memorial Church on September 7, 1979, and included in the Lynn Common Historic District in 1992.

The Thomas P. Costin Jr. Post Office Building, formerly known as the United States Post Office—Lynn Main is a historic post office building at 51 Willow Street in Lynn, Massachusetts. It still serves as Lynn's central post office. The two story granite Art Moderne building was built in 1933. It features a central three-bay entry pavilion that projects slightly from the facade; there are pilaster elements flanking and between the windows of this section. On either side of the entry are four-bay wings. The building occupies the entire width of a city block. Inside, the lobby area is richly colored, with multiple shades of marble used on the floors and decorative wall and ceiling elements. It also retains a number of original features, such as writing desks and light fixtures.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.In late 2018, the building was renamed by an Act of Congress in honor of Thomas P. Costin Jr., the 45th and youngest Mayor of Lynn, who later served as Postmaster for the Lynn District from 1961 to 1992. The official dedication ceremony was held on May 24, 2019.
