WKZO (AM)

Parchment is a city in Kalamazoo County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The 2020 census recorded a population of 1,926. The name is derived from the parchment company that used to manufacture paper on the East bank of the Kalamazoo River. Parchment is located just northeast of the city of Kalamazoo, and it is mostly surrounded by Kalamazoo Township.

Cooper Charter Township is a charter township of Kalamazoo County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 10,111 at the 2010 census, up from 8,754 at the 2000 census. The township was organized in 1837.

The Kalamazoo River Valley Trail is a planned-to-be 35-mile non-motorized trail in Kalamazoo County, Michigan. It currently sits at 22 miles. A master plan for the Trail was completed and portions of the trail are finished and open to the public. A community campaign to raise $5.9 million, to be combined with committed government funds, is underway to secure the remaining dollars needed to finish the trail.

Barclay Hills Education Center is an alternative public school located within the Parchment Public School District, Parchment, Michigan. This school enrolls students in grades sixth through twelfth from surrounding areas.

DeLano Farms is a working educational farm, located at 555 West E Avenue, north of Kalamazoo, Michigan. The farm is the western portion of the Kalamazoo Nature Center, and contains the historic William S. Delano House and associated farmstead. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The working educational farm contains learning gardens, farmyard animals in the summertime, and a U-pick field. The farm is open to the public from June through August, 10am - 4pm Monday-Saturday and 1pm-4pm on Sundays.

The Comstock Public School District resides in Comstock Charter Township near the city of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and is part of the Kalamazoo RESA Intermediate School District. Comstock Public Schools also serves portions of Kalamazoo Township, Pavilion Township, City of Portage, and the City of Kalamazoo. It also serves a section of Eastwood. There were approximately 1,800 students enrolled in the school district in 2018. Students in Comstock attend one of six schools: Comstock High School, 9 - 12 traditional high school. Comstock Compass High School is an alternative high school in the Comstock Public School District in Kalamazoo, Michigan designed for non-traditional students who have struggled in traditional high school programs. As of 2011 the school had a staff of eight teachers and an enrollment of 210 high school students and 70 adult education students.In 2009, Compass adopted the Michigan Merit Curriculum, which requires students pass a core of classes which includes Algebra 2, Physics, and Chemistry; students need 19 total credits to graduate. After the 2009-2010 school year, the school did not meet Adequate Yearly Progress standards for the state of Michigan.Compass offers an online curriculum as well as a dual enrollment program that allows high school students to receive college credit from Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Additionally, it offers a General Educational Development (GED) program and a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training program.

WKMI (1360 AM) is a radio station licensed to Kalamazoo, Michigan broadcasting a news-talk format. WKMI is an affiliate of the Grand Valley State Laker football radio network.WKMI, which began broadcasting in 1947, was a highly rated Top 40 music station from the 1950s through the 1970s. The station moved to an Adult Contemporary format to compete with WKZO during the early 1980s, and then switched to its current talk format in 1990 as the Persian Gulf War created a boom for talk radio. An FM sister at 106.5 was added in 1964; WKMI-FM is now WVFM and no longer co-owned. On August 30, 2013, a deal was announced in which Townsquare Media would acquire 53 stations from Cumulus Media, including WKMI, for $238 million. The deal was part of Cumulus' acquisition of Dial Global; Townsquare and Dial Global were both controlled by Oaktree Capital Management. The sale to Townsquare was completed on November 14, 2013.

Kalamazoo Charter Township is a charter township of Kalamazoo County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 21,918 at the 2010 census.The cities of Kalamazoo and Parchment are adjacent to the township and have annexed much land that was formerly within the township, such that the township now consists of two non-contiguous sections of land and one small section that is connected by a narrow point across Riverview Drive. Two census-designated places (CDPs) are within the township: Eastwood and Westwood. These are defined for statistical purposes and do not have any legal status as municipalities. However, both have an identity as communities, although the areas defined by the CDPs may not precisely correspond to local use of the terms. The CDPs can include nearby areas that locals might not consider as part of the community with the same name. Kalamazoo Township was initially organized under the name of "Arcadia Township" by an act of the Territorial Legislature on July 30, 1830. A separate act on the same day organized the government of Kalamazoo County. Initially Arcadia Township consisted of all eight of the northern tier of townships in Kalamazoo County. In June 1832, Richland Township was set off, consisting of Richland, Ross, Charleston, and Comstock townships. On March 2, 1836, Arcadia Township was renamed as Kalamazoo Township, the same day that the village of Bronson was renamed as Kalamazoo. On March 11, 1837, Cooper Township was set off, consisting of Cooper and Alamo townships. On March 22, 1839, Oshtemo Township was set off from Kalamazoo.

Eastwood is an unincorporated community in Kalamazoo Charter Township, Kalamazoo County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is a census-designated place (CDP) for statistical purposes and does not have any legal status as an incorporated municipality. The population was 6,340 at the 2010 census.

Comstock Northwest is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kalamazoo County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 5,455 at the 2010 census, up from 4,472 at the 2000 census.

Northglade Montessori Magnet School is a public elementary magnet school for students grades K-5, operated by the Kalamazoo Public Schools, located in Kalamazoo, Michigan, United States. It was established in August 2001 by the restructuring of Northglade Elementary School. The school serves around 250 children, of whom 83% are black and 13% white. Children learn through the Montessori Method of guided exploration rather than through traditional educational methods. The principal is ReQwal Duckworth. Northglade reorganized and each of its teachers began intensified training to receive a master's degree in the Montessori method. It is the first public elementary school in Michigan to become accredited by the American Montessori Society and only the second in the US.Northglade Elementary School was Kalamazoo Public Schools' top-performing elementary school in 1996–97. Each spring term students from the Kalamazoo College Chemistry Department worked with Northglade Elementary School on projects that culminated in the school's annual Science Expo.
