Les Eyzies

Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil (French pronunciation: [le.z‿ezi də tajak siʁœj]; Occitan: Las Aisiás de Taiac e Siruèlh) is a former commune in the Dordogne department in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in southwestern France. On 1 January 2019, it was merged into the new commune Les Eyzies.Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil lies in the Périgord Noir area. It is served by the Gare des Eyzies railway station. This locale is home to the Musée national de Préhistoire (National Museum of Prehistory) and the area contains several important archaeological sites, including the Font-de-Gaume, Grotte du Grand-Roc and Lascaux cave prehistoric rock dwellings. The many prehistoric sites and cave paintings in the area were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as Prehistoric Sites and Decorated Caves of the Vézère Valley in 1979.

The National Museum of Prehistory (French: Musée national de Préhistoire) is a French institution founded in 1918 by Denis Peyrony in the commune of Les Eyzies-de-Tayac (now the commune of Les Eyzies), in the Dordogne. Officially inaugurated on September 30, 1923, it is housed in what was formerly the Château de Tayac, purchased for this purpose by the State in 1913. In 2004, a new museum, designed by Jean-Pierre Buffi, was inaugurated on the emblematic cliff face of Les Eyzies.

L'Abri Pataud, or the Pataud Shelter in English, is a prehistoric site found in the middle of the village Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil in Dordogne, Aquitaine, southwestern France. The site includes human remains, stone tools, and early cultural artifacts made during the Upper Paleolithic, between approximately 47,000 and 17,000 years ago.

Font-de-Gaume is a cave near Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil in the Dordogne department of south-west France. The cave contains prehistoric polychrome cave paintings and engravings dating to the Magdalenian period. Discovered in 1901, more than 200 images have been identified in Font-de-Gaume. Along with other nearby prehistoric archeological sites, Font-de-Gaume was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979 as the Prehistoric Sites and Decorated Caves of the Vézère Valley.

Cro-Magnon ( , US: ; French: Abri de Cro-Magnon French pronunciation: [kʁomaɲɔ̃]) is an Aurignacian (Upper Paleolithic) site, located in a rock shelter at Les Eyzies, a hamlet in the commune of Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil, Dordogne, southwestern France.Most notably, it is the site of the discovery of anatomically modern human remains, apparently buried at the site, dated to about 28,000 years ago. Because of its archeological importance, Abri de Cro-Magnon was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the Prehistoric Sites and Decorated Caves of the Vézère Valley site.

Les Combarelles is a cave in Les Eyzies de Tayac, Dordogne, France, which was inhabited by Cro-Magnon people between approximately 13,000 to 11,000 years ago. Holding more than 600 prehistoric engravings of animals and symbols, the two galleries in the cave were crucial in the re-evaluation of the mental and technical capabilities of these prehistoric humans around the turn of the 20th century. In 1979, along with other nearby paleolithic sites and cave paintings, the cave was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the Prehistoric Sites and Decorated Caves of the Vézère Valley.Formed by an underground river, the cave is approximately 300 m (980 ft) long with an average width of 1 m (3.3 ft).

Campagne (French pronunciation: [kɑ̃paɲ] ; Occitan: Campanha) is a commune in the Dordogne department in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in southwestern France.

Château de Campagne is a château in Dordogne, Aquitaine, France. Between the lavoir and the church is the entrance to the Chateau of Campagne. This splendid building was built in the 12th century and burnt down in the 15th century. The current building was built in the 15, 17 and 18th century. In 1970 the castle was given to the state by the Marquis de Campagne and in recent years it has been beautifully renovated. The castle is not open to visitors but its beautiful grounds have also been restored and improved and are free to visit. The grounds were originally laid out in the style of English Country gardens of the 19th century and contain some magnificent trees including huge redwoods and cedar trees. Recently the edges of a stream winding through the garden have been attractively planted and the walk along the stream and round the grounds is a treat. There is also a decorative vegetable garden and a labyrinth to explore in the gardens. The walk around the gardens and grounds offers views of all sides of the beautiful chateau with its decorative towers and roofs. The agricultural buildings of the castle have also been renovated and these are now used by the International Prehistory Centre. The park covers 6 hectares and opens onto a forest of 367 hectares part of which is a classified Biological Reserve.
