In mid-October 2018, Villegailhenc, Conques-sur-Orbiel, and Villardonnel, and Trèbes, along with nearby areas along the river Aude, were devastated when the river flooded after intense rain. 12 people were killed, including a nun.

The Épanchoir de Foucaud is a small botanical garden located in Pennautier just outside Carcassonne, Aude, Languedoc-Roussillon, France. It contains a collection of Mediterranean plants set about an épanchoir of the Canal du Midi, that is, a spillway for the canal's excess water. The garden is open daily without charge.

The airport is located on the western edge of the city, 3 km (2 nautical miles) from the city center, in the Aude department of the Occitanie region in France. It is also known as Salvaza Airport, Carcassonne Salvaza Airport or Carcassonne Airport in Pays Cathare (Aéroport de Carcassonne en Pays Cathare). The airport handles commercial national and international flights as well as private, non-regular air traffic.

The Fresquel Aqueduct (French: Pont-canal du Fresquel) is one of several aqueducts on the Canal du Midi. Until its building, the canal crossed the River Fresquel on the level. Built in 1802–1810, the structure is near Carcassonne. It was built when the canal was rerouted to pass through Carcassonne.

The arrondissement of Carcassonne is an arrondissement of France in the Aude department in the Occitanie région. Its INSEE code is 111 and its capital city is Carcassonne. It has 186 communes. Its population is 159,539 (2016), and its area is 2,309.7 km2 (891.8 sq mi).It is the northernmost of the arrondissements of the department. The main cities in the arrondissement are Carcassonne (47,068 inhabitants in 2012), Castelnaudary (11,748 inhabitants) and Trèbes (5,280 inhabitants).

Carcassonne is a railway station in Carcassonne, Occitanie, France, on the Bordeaux–Sète and Carcassonne–Rivesaltes lines. The station is served by TGV, Intercités and TER services operated by SNCF.
