The American Chicle Company Building, built in 1911, is located in the Gert Town neighborhood of New Orleans, Louisiana. The New Orleans Chamber of Commerce started campaigning for a chewing gum factory in the city in 1900. Points in favor of New Orleans as a good location for such a factory included being USA's leading port of commerce with Latin America, so much chicle was already shipped through there, and large quantities of sugar are grown and refined in Louisiana.The American Chicle Company built the building as a branch factory, which opened production in 1911. After the gum factory closed, the building housed a box factory and an automotive parts warehouse. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.The area flooded in the 2005 levee failure disaster during Hurricane Katrina. After remaining vacant for years, the building was refurbished as an office building in 2008–2009, and now houses the headquarters of Landis Construction Company.

Lincoln Park was a noted amusement park in New Orleans, Louisiana from 1902 to 1930. It was located in the city's Gert Town section, on the downtown side of Carrollton Avenue between Olive and Forshay Streets (near where Earhart Boulevard intersects Carrollton Ave now). It was devoted to amusements for the city's African American population.

The Archdiocese of New Orleans (Latin: Archidioecesis Novae Aureliae, French: Archidiocèse de la Nouvelle-Orléans, Spanish: Arquidiócesis de Nueva Orleans) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical division of the Catholic Church spanning Jefferson (except Grand Isle), Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. John the Baptist, St. Tammany, and Washington civil parishes of southeastern Louisiana. It is the second to the Archdiocese of Baltimore in age among the present dioceses in the United States, having been elevated to the rank of diocese on April 25, 1793, during Spanish colonial rule. Its patron saints are the virgin Mary under the title of Our Lady of Prompt Succor and St. Louis, King of France, and Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis is its mother church with St. Patrick's Church serving as a pro-cathedral. The archdiocese has 137 church parishes administered by 387 priests (including those belonging to religious institutes), 187 permanent deacons, 84 brothers, and 432 sisters. There are 372,037 Catholics on the census of the archdiocese, 36% of the total population of the area. The current head of the archdiocese is Archbishop Gregory Michael Aymond. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans reflects the cultural diversity of the city of New Orleans and the surrounding (civil) parishes. As a major port, the city has attracted immigrants from around the world. When French and Spanish Catholics ruled the city, some encouraged enslaved Africans to adopt Christianity, resulting in a large population of African American Catholics with deep heritage in the area. Later, Irish, Italian, Polish, Bavarian, and other immigrants have brought their heritage and customs to the archdiocese. The last quarter of the 20th century also brought many Vietnamese Catholics from South Vietnam to settle in the city. New waves of immigrants from Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua and Cuba also have added to the Catholic population. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans is also a metropolitan see of a province that spans the entire U.S. state of Louisiana. Its suffragan sees are the Diocese of Alexandria, Diocese of Baton Rouge, Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, Diocese of Lafayette in Louisiana, Diocese of Lake Charles, and Diocese of Shreveport. As of June 2023 the archdiocese is under chapter 11 bankruptcy due to the mounting cost of litigation from sexual abuse cases, and covid.

St. Mary's Dominican High School, or simply Dominican High School, is an all-girls private Catholic high school in New Orleans, Louisiana, sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Peace. Dominican is one of the few schools in Louisiana without a mascot. The school colors are black and white. The school's motto is Veritas (the Latin word for Truth). The St. Mary's Dominican Band is one of the few all-girl marching bands in New Orleans. The Band performs at athletic games, Mardi Gras parades, festivals, and other school events.

Hollygrove is a neighborhood of the city of New Orleans, Louisiana, located in the city's 17th Ward. A subdistrict of the Uptown/Carrollton area, the boundaries as defined by the New Orleans City Planning Commission are the following: Palmetto Street to the north, Cambronne, Edinburgh, Forshey, Fig and Leonidas Streets to the east, Earhart Boulevard to the south and the Jefferson Parish boundary to the west. Conrad playground, the Cuccia-Byrnes playground and Larry Gilbert baseball stadium are located in Hollygrove. The Hollygrove Market and Farm is also located in Hollygrove. Notable people including rapper Lil Wayne have grown up in the neighborhood.

Carrollton Avenue is a major thoroughfare stretching 3.9 miles (6.3 km) across the Uptown/Carrollton and Mid-City districts of New Orleans. South Carrollton Avenue runs from St. Charles Avenue in the Riverbend in a northeast lake-bound direction through Carrollton and into Mid-City. After crossing Canal Street it continues as North Carrollton Avenue until intersecting with Esplanade Avenue and Wisner Boulevard at the entrance to City Park.

Fontainebleau and Marlyville are jointly designated as a neighborhood of the city of New Orleans. A subdistrict of the Uptown/Carrollton Area, its boundaries as defined by the New Orleans City Planning Commission are: Colapissa and Broadway Streets and MLK Boulevard to the north, Norman C. Francis Parkway, Octavia Street, Fontainebleau Drive, Nashville Avenue, South Rocheblave, Robert and South Tonti Street and Jefferson Avenue to the east, South Claiborne Avenue, Lowerline and Spruce Streets to the south and South Carrollton Avenue to the west.

Xavier University of Louisiana (also known as XULA) is a private, historically black (HBCU), Catholic university in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is the only Catholic HBCU and, upon the canonization of Katharine Drexel in 2000, became the first Catholic university founded by a saint.

The Xavier University Main Building, Convent and Library are three late Gothic Revival architecture style buildings on the campus of Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The buildings are a three-story main building built in 1932, a 2+1⁄2-story convent built in 1932, and a two-story library built in 1937.

Dixon is a neighborhood of the city of New Orleans. A subdistrict of the Uptown/Carrollton Area, its boundaries as defined by the New Orleans City Planning Commission are: Interstate 10 to the northeast, South Carrollton Avenue to the southeast, Palmetto Street to the southwest and Cherry, Dixon, Mistletoe, Peach, Hamilton, Quince and Last Streets to the northwest.

Gert Town is a neighborhood in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana. It is the home to Xavier University of Louisiana and is near Mid-City. Gert Town played a major role in the industrial development of the New Orleans region. The Blue Plate Mayonnaise Factory, Coca-Cola Bottling Plant, Sealtest Dairy, and Thompson-Hayward Chemical Company were all fundamental manufacturing bases of the working-class neighborhood. Gert Town was also well known for being a center of development for jazz and other music genres. Musicians such as Buddy Bolden, John Robichaux, Merry Clayton, Bunk Johnson and Allen Toussaint all came from the neighborhood and helped shape the musical influence of New Orleans.In 2016, Gert Town was named one of New Orleans fastest-growing areas.

The Blue Plate Building, is a building in the Gert Town section of New Orleans, Louisiana, at 1315 S. Norman C. Francis Parkway at the corner of Earhart Boulevard. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 16, 2008. Its NRIS reference number is 08000989.Erected in 1941 in the Streamline Moderne style, it was originally a mayonnaise factory. It was designed by architect August Perez Jr in the Streamline Moderne style, a close cousin of Art Deco known for its curving forms, long horizontal lines and "streamlined" appearance. In 2012 it was redeveloped by HRI Properties into 72 loft-style apartments with a designed leasing preference for artists, and was renamed "Blue Plate Artists Lofts."
