Bura (also Boura, Bira; Ancient Greek: Βοῦρα) was an ancient polis (city-state) of Achaea, Greece, one of the 12 cities of the Achaean League.It is said to have derived its name from Bura, a daughter of Ion and Helice.The city was situated on a height 40 stadia from the sea, and southeast of Helike. Its name occurs in a line of Aeschylus, preserved by Strabo. It was swallowed up by the earthquake which destroyed Helike in 373 BCE, and all its inhabitants perished except those who were absent at the time. On their return they rebuilt the city, which was visited by Pausanias, who mentions its temples dedicated to Demeter, Aphrodite, Eileithyia and Isis. Strabo relates that there was a fountain at Bura called "Sybaris", from which the river and city in Magna Graecia, Italy derived its name. On the revival of the Achaean League in 280 BCE, Bura was governed by a tyrant, whom the inhabitants slew in 275 BCE, and then joined the confederacy. A little to the east of Bura was the river Buraïcus; and on the banks of this river, between Bura and the sea, was an oracular cavern of Heracles surnamed Buraicus.The ruins of Bura have been discovered nearly midway between the rivers of Bokhusia (Cerynites), and of Vouraikos (Buraicus) near Trupia. Ovid says that the ruins of Bura (which he calls Bira), like those of Helike, were still to be seen at the bottom of the sea. Pliny the Elder makes the same assertion. Hence it has been supposed that the ancient Bura stood upon the coast, and after its destruction was rebuilt inland; but neither Pausanias nor Strabo states that the ancient city was on the coast, and their words render it improbable. Seneca claims the sea destroyed the city after a comet appeared in the sky. Modern scholars tentatively identify the ruins at the kastro near Diakofto with Bura.

Platanos (Greek: Πλάτανος) is a village and a community in the municipal unit of Akrata, Achaea, Greece. In 2011 Platanos had a population of 231 for the village, and 259 for the community, which includes the mountain villages Ano Potamia, Korinthiako Balkoni and Tsivlos. The village Platanos consists of two parts: the seaside settlement Paralia Platanou (or Paralia Platanos) on the Gulf of Corinth and Platanos proper at about 250 m elevation on a mountain slope directly above Paralia Platanou. The villages Ano Potamia and Tsivlos are about 10 km south of Platanos. Platanos is 5 km west of Akrata and 18 km southeast of Aigio. The Greek National Road 8A (Athens - Corinth - Patras) and the railway Corinth - Patras pass north of Platanos.

Ano Diakopto (Greek: Άνω Διακοπτό, before 1940: Πέρα Μαχαλάς - Pera Machalas) is a village and a community in the municipal unit of Diakopto, Achaea, Greece. It is 6 km southeast of Diakopto. The 2011 census showed a population of 304 for the village and 317 for the community, which includes the village of Pounta. Ano Diakopto suffered damage from the 2007 Greek forest fires.

Paralia Platanou (English "Platanos Beach", Greek "Παραλία Πλατάνου"), is a village situated on the seashore below Platanos village. It has to a degree assumed the name Platanos, though that term actually refers to the larger town above the shore (which is referred to as Pano or Ano (Upper) Platanos. The entrance to the village is found a short distance beyond Kryoneri Bay, on the 155th km (97th mile) of the Old National Corinth-Patras Road at a designated exit. Paralia Platanou is three times the size and twice the population of its mother village, owing its development to its proximity to the seashore and hence to the large number of people who visit it on a regular basis in the summer as well as at Easter and Christmas. Noted beaches are Avgolemono (153rd km/98th mile), Liontari (160th km/100th mile), and the neighbouring Punta Beach, below Trapeza village. Platanos is famous for its natural Artesian spring water, and for Λιοντάρι (Liontari, i.e. a natural, house-sized rocky formation in the shape of a lion at the western end of the village on the edge of a mountain slope.

Diakopto railway station (Greek: Σιδηροδρομικός Σταθμός Διακοπτού, romanized: Sidirodromikós Stathmós Diakoptoú) is located just north of Diakopto, Achaea, Greece. Originally opened on 10 March 1896, it was reopened on 22 June 2020 as part of the Hellenic Railways Organisation's €848-million project extension of the Athens Airport–Patras railway to Aigio, co-financed by the European Union's Cohesion Fund 2000–2006. The station is currently served by both the unique rack railway to Kalavryta and Hellenic Train local services between Kiato and Aigio.

Diakopto (Greek: Διακοπτό) is a coastal town municipality in Achaea, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reforms it is a municipal unit of the Aigialeia municipality. The municipal unit has an area of 103.932 km2. Population 6,429 (2011). The town of Diakopto is situated on the Gulf of Corinth, near the mouth of the Vouraikos river and at the lower end of the Vouraikos Gorge. The 750 mm (2 ft 5+1⁄2 in) gauge Diakofto–Kalavryta Railway built in 1885 leads up to the town of Kalavryta passing the Mega Spilaio Monastery at about halfway. Diakopto is on the old Greek National Road 8 (Athens - Corinth - Patras); the new Greek National Road 8A (also Athens - Corinth - Patras) passes 1 km to the south. Diakopto is located about 40 km east of Patras, and 15 km southeast of Aigio.

The Vouraikos (Greek: Βουραϊκός, Latin: Buraïcus, Erasinus (Ancient Greek: Ἐρασῖνος, romanized: Erasinos) according to Strabo) is a river in Achaea, Greece. In ancient times it was called Erasinos. Its source is in the Aroania mountains, near the village of Priolithos. It flows past the towns of Kalavryta and Diakopto, and flows into the Gulf of Corinth near Diakopto. It is 37.5 km (23.3 mi) long. The name is derived from Boura, a mythological daughter of Ion and Helice who was beloved by Hercules, who according to legend opened the gorge in order to get close to her. This is the Vouraikos gorge, which has a length of about 20 km. In the gorge the river passes along dense vegetation and steep cliffs, waterfalls and caves. The Diakofto–Kalavryta Railway passes through the Vouraikos gorge.According to legend there was a cave on the banks of the river which was dedicated to Hercules. There pilgrims came to read their fate in the Tables of Knowledge, as they were called.The river is mentioned by Pausanias in his Description of Greece.

Zachloritika (Greek: Ζαχλωρίτικα) is a village in the municipal unit of Diakopto, Achaea, Greece. It is located on the left bank of the river Vouraikos, 1 km west of Diakopto. The Greek National Road 8A (Patras - Aigio - Corinth) passes south of the village. In 2011 Zachloritika had a population of 339.

Elaeonas or Elaionas (Greek: Ελαιώνας meaning olive grove 'the place where olives grow', before 1949: Τρυπιά - Trypia) is a village and a community in the municipal unit of Diakopto, in the northern part of the Peloponnese peninsula, Greece. It is on the Gulf of Corinth, 3 km west of Diakopto and 9 km southeast of Aigio. The Olympia Odos (Greek National Road Α8) (Patras - Corinth - Athens) passes south of the village. The community consists of the villages Elaionas, Metochi and Terpsithea. In 2011 Elaionas had a population of 671 (712 for the community). The village lies between the river of Vouraikos and Selinountas in the foothills of Mount Marathia. According to Pausanias, travelers could visit the caverns of Heracles in those foothills. A small marked path off the Old National Highway leads you to these caves.

Rodia (Greek: Ροδιά) is a town in the municipal unit of Diakopto, Achaea, Greece. It is located in the coastal plains near the Gulf of Corinth, 4 km northwest of Diakopto and 8 km southeast of Aigio. Rodia has a football/soccer team known as Floga (Φλόγα meaning flame) and it has a communal soccer field.

Ceryneia or Keryneia (Ancient Greek: Κερύνεια, also Cerynia or Kerynia (Κερυνία), Ceraunia or Keraunia (Κεραυνία), Cerauneia or Kerauneia (Κεραύνεια), Caryneia or Karyneia (Καρύνεια), was a town and polis (city-state) of ancient Achaea. It was not originally one of the 12 Achaean cities, though it afterwards became so, succeeding to the place of Aegae. Its population was increased by a large body of Mycenaeans, when the latter abandoned their city to the Argives in 468 BCE. Ceryneia is mentioned as a member of the Achaean League on its revival in c. 280 BCE; and one of its citizens, Marcus, was chosen in 255 BCE as the first sole General of the League. In the time of Strabo, Ceryneia was dependent upon Aegium. It was situated inland upon a lofty height, west of the river Cerynites (Bokhusia), and a little south of Helice. Theophrastus stated that the wine of Ceryneia produced abortion.The place is celebrated in Greek mythology as the location of the Ceryneian Hind, the capture of which was one of the Labours of Hercules. Its ruins have been discovered on the height, which rises above the right bank of the Cerynites, just where it issues from the mountains into the plain, near modern Mamousia. The modern town of Keryneia takes its name from the ancient town.

Mamousia (Greek: Μαμουσιά) is a village and a community in the municipal unit of Diakopto, Achaea, Greece. It is 6 km southwest of Diakopto, on the west side of the Vouraikos gorge. In 2011 the population was 214 for the village and 355 for the community, which includes the villages Derveni and Stavria.
