Canning Tunnel

The Canning Contour Channel is a 16-kilometre (9.9 mi) series of human-made concrete channels and steel and cast-iron pipelines in the Darling Scarp in Western Australia constructed between July 1935 and December 1936. The project was a Depression era public works scheme to carry potable water from just below Canning Dam through the hills around and above Roleystone and Kelmscott to a screening, fluoridation and pumping station near Gosnells by following the natural contours of the Canning Valley – hence it was entirely gravity-fed. Where a tributary valley needed to be crossed, suspended or siphoning pipelines were used. From Gosnells, the water entered the city's pipeline distribution system. The channel supplied drinking water to the metropolitan area of Perth from 1940 to 1975, before becoming redundant after the construction of the Canning Tunnel in the mid-1970s. Until the construction of Serpentine Dam in 1961, Canning Dam and the channel were the main sources of water supply for Perth. Large sections of the disused channel and associated infrastructure remain and provide useful bush-walking routes. In 1950 a section of the channel collapsed at Araluen, causing severe water restrictions in Perth for several weeks.

Churchman Brook Dam is an earth-fill embankment dam approximately 30 kilometres (20 mi) southeast of Perth, Western Australia in the City of Armadale. The reservoir is a water source for Perth. It has a capacity of 2.24 gigalitres (79 million cubic feet) for a catchment area of 16 square kilometres (6.2 sq mi).Construction of the dam commenced in 1923 and was completed in 1929; the resident engineer was Sir Russell John Dumas.

The Elizabethan Village was a tourist attraction at Bedfordale, Western Australia, created by British engineer Leo Fowler (1923–1992). It was opened in 1977 by Sir Charles Court, the Premier of Western Australia. In 1978 it was awarded the Sir David Brand Award for Tourism.It comprised facsimiles of several buildings from Stratford-upon-Avon including Shakespeare's Birthplace and Anne Hathaway's Cottage.As of April 2022 some of the buildings are still in use as the Last Drop Elizabethan, formerly Elizabethan Village Pub, Cobwebs restaurant and the Leo Fowler function centre.The village is listed as a category D municipal heritage site by the Heritage Council of Western Australia.

Mount Nasura is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Armadale. The suburb occupies hilly terrain bounded on the north by Brookton Highway and Hill Street (1.6 km), west by Paterson Road (1.1 km), south-west by Canns and Carradine Roads (1.6 km), south by property boundaries on the north side of the Neerigin Brook (0.3 km), and east by Albany Highway (2.7m). With the exception of the Armadale Kelmscott District Memorial Hospital, the suburb is primarily residential.

Kelmscott is a southeastern suburb of Perth, Western Australian within the local government area of the City of Armadale. It is 23 kilometres (14 mi) southeast of Perth along the Albany Highway.Kelmscott was one of four initial townsites established in the Swan River Colony. It was named after Kelmscott, Oxfordshire, the birthplace of the first Anglican clergyman in the colony, Thomas Hobbes Scott (1783–1860).The suburb of Kelmscott is bisected by the Canning River. On the western side of the river is the flat coastal plain upon which most of Perth is situated. This area includes the Stargate Kelmscott and Kelmscott Village shopping areas along Albany Highway, the light industrial area, the Kelmscott Senior High School and a residential area. To the east, the suburb rises into the western Darling Scarp. Kelmscott celebrated its 175th anniversary on 9 October 2005. Kelmscott is home of the first Red Rooster restaurant, as well as Australia's busiest drive-through KFC service.

Armadale Hospital is a general public hospital in Armadale, in Perth's south-eastern suburbs. The hospital, which includes an emergency department with 47 patient spaces, is located on the Armadale Health Service campus. The campus also includes Armadale's Community Health Service, Mental Health Service, and Aged Care and Rehabilitation Service.

Bedfordale is a semi-rural suburb in the south-east of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Armadale. Located approximately 40 km from Perth in the Darling Range, some of the local attractions include Churchman Brook Dam, Wungong Dam and the Elizabethan Pub. The area is popular for hiking and cycling. Being close to Armadale railway station provides easy access to the city by train. It was first named as a townsite in 1905.The area is named after Admiral Sir Frederick Denham Bedford (1838-1913), Governor of Western Australia from 24 March 1903 to 22 April 1909. Governor Bedford chose some of the older street names to commemorate several famous Admirals. The suburb hosts the Elizabethan Village which has full size replicas of Anne Hathaway's cottage and Shakespeare's Birthplace, built by British engineer Leo Fowler in the 1970s.

The Araluen-Wungong Important Bird Area is a 123 km2 tract of land in the Darling Ranges on the south-eastern fringe of the city of Perth, Western Australia. The name derives from the Araluen Botanic Park within the Important Bird Area (IBA), and the adjacent suburb of Wungong. It is an important site for black cockatoos.

Challis railway station (officially Challis Station) is a suburban railway station in Kelmscott, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. It is on the Armadale line which is part of the Transperth network, and is 27.3 kilometres (17.0 mi) southwest of Perth station and 3.1 kilometres (1.9 mi) north of Armadale station. The station opened on 29 October 1973, as did the adjacent Sherwood station, filling the large gap between Armadale station and Kelmscott station. It consists of two side platforms with a pedestrian level crossing. It is not fully accessible due to steep ramps and wide gaps at the pedestrian level crossing. Services are operated by Transperth Train Operations, a division of the state government's Public Transport Authority. Peak services reach seven trains per hour in each direction, whilst off-peak services are four trains per hour. The station is one of the least used ones on the Transperth network, with just 259 boardings per day in October 2017. The City of Armadale rezoned nearby land in the 2010s with the goal of increasing patronage.

Kelmscott railway station is located on the South Western Railway, 25.9 kilometres from Perth Station in the suburb of Kelmscott. It is served by Armadale Line services which are part of the Transperth network.

Kelmscott Senior High School is a public co-educational high day school, located on Camillo Road in Kelmscott, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia.

Sherwood railway station (officially Sherwood Station and previously known as Kingsley Station) is a suburban railway station in Armadale, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. It is on the Armadale line which is part of the Transperth network, and is 28.6 kilometres (17.8 mi) southwest of Perth station and 1.8 kilometres (1.1 mi) north of Armadale station. The station opened in 1973 as Kingsley, but was renamed to Sherwood in 1993. It consists of two side platforms with a pedestrian level crossing. It is not fully accessible due to steep ramps, wide gaps at the pedestrian level crossing, and wide gaps between the platform and train. Services are operated by Transperth Train Operations, a division of the state government's Public Transport Authority. Peak services reach seven trains per hour in each direction, whilst off-peak services are four trains per hour.
