Sunrise, Florida

On February 2, 2021, a shootout occurred between David Lee Huber and several agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) at an apartment complex in Sunrise, Florida, United States. At the time, the agents were serving a warrant on Huber related to a child pornography case. Two FBI agents were fatally shot and three others were injured. Huber was later found dead after barricading himself inside the apartment. The incident was one of the deadliest in the FBI's history.

Sunrise Musical Theater was a performing arts center located in Sunrise, Florida. It opened in 1976 hosting concerts and processions. The seating capacity of the theater was 3,732. The theater had an "unofficial" opening on December 27, 1976. The first event was a performance of the play "Pinocchio" featuring part of the cast of the Kay Rockefeller Children's Theater in New York. Bobby Vinton officially opened the theater on December 29, 1976. Notable past performers include Air Supply, Tori Amos, Frank Sinatra, Diana Ross, Liberace, Tears For Fears, Eartha Kitt, Engelbert Humperdinck, Barry Manilow, Sheena Easton, The Beach Boys, Frank Zappa, Bob Dylan, The Kinks, Lou Reed, The Smithereens, Cheap Trick, James Taylor, Carole King, Chicago, Allman Brothers, King Crimson, Molly Hatchet, Sharon, Lois & Bram, Phish, Beastie Boys, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Outlaws, Simply Red, Olivia Newton-John, Ozzy Osbourne with Randy Rhoads twice and Black Sabbath. In 2002 Faith Center Ministries made the facility their home of worship.

Sawgrass Mills is a shopping mall in Sunrise, Florida, owned by Simon Property Group. With 2,370,610 square feet (220,237 m2) of retail selling space, it is the eleventh largest mall in the United States, the largest single story outlet mall in the U.S., the largest shopping mall in Broward County, the second largest mall in Florida and the Miami metropolitan area after the Aventura Mall, and the third largest shopping mall in the southeastern United States. With over 21 million annual visitors, Sawgrass Mills is one of the most visited attractions in the state of Florida.

Piper High School is a public high school located in Sunrise, Florida, one of the nation's fastest growing cities. The school is a part of the Broward County Public Schools district.The school serves over 2,500 students from grades 9 through 12. The mascot is the Bengals.It serves most of Sunrise, northwest sections of Lauderhill, a section of North Lauderdale, and a section of Tamarac.

WKPX (88.5 FM) is the non-commercial, educational radio station owned and operated by the Broward County Public Schools (BCPS), broadcasting at 3,000 watts and reaching all of Broward County. In mid-2020, production studios were relocated from Piper High School, where the station had operated for many years, to BECON's production facility in Davie. This move is a first step in a plan to create internship opportunities for students throughout BCPS to get training and practical experience in radio as well as television and video production. Through an agreement between BECON and Nova Southeastern University (NSU), the evening hours on WKPX (6:00pm to midnight) are dedicated to Radio X, and music programs hosted by NSU media students.

Wannado City was an indoor role-playing amusement center at the Sawgrass Mills in Sunrise, Florida, a suburb of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It was a property of Grupo CIE. Billed as "where kids can do what they wanna do", it was a child-sized representation of a metropolis where children aged 2–14 could participate in different careers and other lifelike activities. "Luis Javier Laresgoiti Fernandez" created the concept five years prior (1996) when he opened a similar park in Mexico City named "La Ciudad de los Niños", now known as KidZania. Luis sold his shares and left Kidzania to open Wannado City at Sawgrass Mills Mall in Florida. Luis left Wannado City to start a new business named "Kandu", which now focuses on licensing a smaller hybrid model of Wannado City. Careers in which the "kidizens" could participate included but were not limited to firefighter, police officer, lawyer, physician, TV reporter, singer, actor, and model. They could also use issued money, "Wongas", to set up bank accounts. Due to financial problems and lack of business, Wannado City was sold by Stampler Auctions on January 11, 2011. Wannado City closed the following day and was replaced by a new wing of stores called "Fashion Row" in 2013.

Amerant Bank Arena (previously known as the National Car Rental Center, Office Depot Center, BankAtlantic Center, BB&T Center, and FLA Live Arena) is the largest indoor arena in Florida and is located next to Sawgrass Mills in Sunrise, Florida. It is the home venue for the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League. It was completed in 1998, at a cost of US$185 million, almost entirely publicly financed, and features 70 suites and 2,623 club seats.

Millennium 6-12 Collegiate Academy, previously Millennium Middle School, is a secondary (middle and high) school in Tamarac, Florida. It is a part of Broward County Public Schools. Students living in an attendance zone are assigned to Millennium for middle school; this includes sections of Tamarac, a section of Lauderhill, and a section of North Lauderdale. There is no automatic zoning for Millennium High; admission into this program, with preference given for students who attended Millennium Middle, is based on students being eligible to dual-enroll with Broward College.

The Blake School is a private, co-ed Montessori school serving pre-school through 8th grade. The school is located in Plantation, Florida. This school is associated with The Blake School (Lake City, Florida).

Plantation Walk is a mixed-use complex in Plantation, Florida, a suburb of Fort Lauderdale. The complex includes the office tower, hotel and parking decks from the demolished Fashion Mall, a three-level shopping mall that opened in 1988 and closed in December 2006 following hurricane damage.

The American Heritage Schools (AHS, Heritage) are a pair of private, college preparatory, independent, nonsectarian, and co-educational day schools for grades Pre-K 3 through 12. The two campuses together teach 4,200 students and are located in the United States in Plantation, Florida, a suburb just west of Fort Lauderdale in Broward County, and in Delray Beach, Florida, a city just north of Boca Raton in southern Palm Beach County.

Plantation High School (commonly referred to as PHS) is a high school located in Plantation, Florida, part of the Broward County Public Schools district. As of 2023, the school serves 1,834 students in grades 9 through 12. It was originally located on the Fort Lauderdale Airport grounds, specifically on the Naval Air Station Fort Lauderdale base. This was used as a temporary location until the new building was ready to open at its present location. Students at Plantation High are called "Colonels". The original school logo was a graphic of a traditional Southern colonel—the equivalent of Colonel Reb, mascot of the University of Mississippi. In the early 1990s, amidst concerns of racial insensitivity, the logo was changed to a large red letter "C" similar to the Chicago Bears logo. Plantation High has an FCAT school grade of "C" for the 2018–2019 academic year. The school has been making great efforts to raise the school grade in recent years. The school's attendance zone includes: Plantation, and a portion of Sunrise.
