Tolland, Connecticut

The Old Tolland County Courthouse is a historic former courthouse at 53 Tolland Green in Tolland, Connecticut. Built in 1822 it was used as a county courthouse until the 1890s. It housed the Tolland Public Library from 1899 to 1985. Now a history museum operated by the Tolland Historical Society, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

The Hicks-Stearns Family Museum is a Victorian historic house museum located on the town green in Tolland, Connecticut. The house was built in 1788, when it served as a tavern. It was occupied by the Hicks family from 1845 until 1970. Along with the Old Tolland County Jail and Museum, the Tolland County Courthouse, and the Daniel Benton Homestead, the Hicks-Stearns Family Museum is one of Tolland's four major landmarks.

The Tolland Green Historic District is a historic district that includes the town green, Tolland Green, of Tolland, Connecticut. The Tolland Green is a long and narrow strip of land oriented in a north-south direction. The district includes the green and the surrounding properties. The historic district contains 55 contributing buildings and one other site, and is located primarily along Merrow Road (Route 195) from just south of Cider Mill Road in the south, past the Tolland Green, then widening in the north to encompass both Tolland Stage Road (Route 74) and the street known as Tolland Green to roughly Dunn Hill Road. Route 195 serves as the Tolland Green's western boundary, while the street known as Tolland Green serves as the eastern boundary. Route 74 cuts through the Green from east to west.On either side of the Green at the south end are two town halls, the Old Town Hall (1879) and the present Town Hall (1909). The historic Congregational Church, the Old Tolland County Courthouse (built in 1822; site of the Tolland Public Library from 1899 to 1985), the Board of Education building (in a converted residence built in 1830), the Ratcliffe Hicks Memorial School (built in 1908; now the Hicks Memorial Municipal Center and Library), and the Old Tolland County Jail and Museum are located near the intersection where the Route 74 cuts through the Green. Most buildings in the historic district are residential and most date from the 18th and 19th centuries. Historic residences include the Hicks-Stearns Family Museum, former home of Ratcliffe Hicks. The district is significant for its landscape qualities, its historical associations, and its Federal and Victorian architecture.

The Daniel Benton Homestead is a historic house museum and the oldest house in Tolland, Connecticut. It was built in 1720 and has been operated by the Tolland Historical Society as a museum since 1970.Along with the Old Tolland County Jail and Museum, the Tolland County Courthouse, and the Hicks-Stearns Family Museum, the Benton Homestead is one of Tolland's four major historic landmarks.

Tolland High School is a public high school in Tolland, Connecticut.

Tolland County is a county in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Connecticut. As of the 2020 census, its population was 149,788. It is incorporated into 13 towns and was originally formed on 13 October 1785 from portions of eastern Hartford County and western Windham County. The county is included in the Hartford-East Hartford-Middletown, CT Metropolitan Statistical Area. Counties in Connecticut have no governmental function; all legal power is vested in the state, city and town governments. The office of High Sheriff in Connecticut counties was officially abolished by ballot in 2000, and corrections and court services were transferred to the state marshals. Tolland County has the same boundaries as the Tolland Judicial District. On June 6, 2022, the U.S. Census Bureau formally recognized Connecticut's nine councils of governments as county equivalents instead of the state's eight counties. Connecticut's county governments were disbanded in 1960, and the councils of governments took over some of the local governmental functions. Connecticut's eight historical counties continue to exist in name only, and are no longer considered for statistical purposes.

The John Cady House, also known historically as the Babcock Tavern, is a historic house at 484 Mile Hill Road in Tolland, Connecticut. With a distinctive construction history dating to 1753, it serves as an important window into the construction methods and techniques of the 18th and 19th centuries. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Shenipsit Lake (or Snipsic lake; shin-ip-SIT), known locally as "The Snip", is a natural lake used as a water storage facility with a water size of 522.8 acres (2.116 km2) located in Tolland County, Connecticut, bordering the towns of Ellington, Tolland and the Rockville section of Vernon, Connecticut, at 41°53′4.7″N 72°25′34″W. It is the source of the Hockanum River.

The Brick School House is a local history museum in Coventry, Connecticut. The small brick building functioned as a one-room school from 1825 to 1953. It is the only one-room schoolhouse open to the public in Connecticut.The Brick School House is owned and managed by the Coventry Historical Society. The interior features nineteenth-century school desks and displays of photographs and other memorabilia donated by former pupils and teachers. The museum is open to the public on the first and third Sundays of the month, May through October. Admission, including tours, is free. The museum is known locally for its "Sundae on a Sunday" ice cream social on Father's Day.Mabel Walbridge Hall had taught at the schoolhouse from 1913-1925 as had her grandmother and mother before her. In 1967, Hall persuaded the town council to sell the schoolhouse to the Coventry Historical Society for $1. Hall wrote the booklet The Brick School Story (Coventry Historical Society, 1977) to raise funds for the schoolhouse's restoration.

Minterburn Mill is a former textile mill complex located at 215 East Main Street, in the Rockville village of Vernon, Connecticut. Developed beginning in 1834, it was the first place in Rockville to be developed industrially, and the surviving buildings provide a view of evolutionary changes in mill architecture. The mill was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. It was converted into an apartment complex in 2016 by the state.

Hall Memorial School is located at 111 River Road (Route 32) in Willington, Connecticut. It serves only the town of Willington, grades 5 through 8. The school is fairly small, servicing about 320 students.

Crystal Lake is a village, census-designated place, and part of the town of Ellington, in Tolland County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 1,945 at the 2010 census. The CDP includes an eponymous lake.
