Lavenone

The Valle Sabbia is the second-largest of the Tre Valli Bresciane (Three Brescian valleys), situated in the eastern part of the province of Brescia.

Idro (Brescian: Ider) is a town and comune in the province of Brescia, in Lombardy. It is situated near the southwestern end of Lake Idro, and at the northeastern end of the Valle Sabbia. Bordering communes are Anfo, Bagolino, Bondone, Capovalle, Lavenone, Treviso Bresciano and Valvestino.

Vestone (Brescian: Vistù) is a comune in the province of Brescia, in Lombardy, Italy. It is situated on the river Chiese. Neighboring communes are Barghe, Bione, Casto, Lavenone, Mura, Pertica Alta, Pertica Bassa, Preseglie, Provaglio Val Sabbia and Treviso Bresciano. Its population is 4,340.

Anfo (Brescian: Anf; Latin: Damphus) is a comune in the province of Brescia in northern Italy, roughly halfway between Milan and Venice. It is in the Lombardy region near Lake Idro and is bounded by other communes of Bagolino and Collio.

The Re di Anfo is a stream (or torrente) in the Province of Brescia, Lombardy. Its source is on Cima Meghè and it flows into Lago d'Idro at Anfo on the western side of the lake. Its entire course is contained within the territory of the Commune of Anfo. A short stretch of the river is suitable for the sport of canyoning.

Pertica Bassa (Brescian: Pèrtega Basa) is a village and comune in the province of Brescia, in Lombardy.

Rocca d'Anfo (English: Rock of Anfo or Fort Anfo) is an historic military fortification in Anfo (now in Brescia, northern Italy) adjacent to Lake Idro. It was first built by the Venetian Republic in the 15th century on the eastern slope of Mount Censo in the Brescia and Garda Prealps. The stronghold was later expanded under Napoleon in the early 1800s.

The Palvico (it. Torrente Palvico) is an emissary of the lake Lago d'Ampola. Between Tiarno di Sopra and Storo the river flows inside a deep cut canyon through various basins with steps up to 20 m in between. The last bassin opens with a 50 m drop called Buco della Morte (en: Mouth of death) to the valley at Storo. This potential has been used since 1905 for hydroelectric plants.

Bagolino (Brescian: Bagulì) is a comune in the province of Brescia, in Lombardy, Italy, in the valley of the river Caffaro, on the right side of Valle Sabbia. Bagolino is known for the cheese named Bagòss and the carnival. Similar to grana padano, Bagòss is a salty cheese with traces of natural mold at times. The village retains its medieval appearance, with abutting historical buildings and winding streets, arcades, squares, fountains, and narrow stairs that go up to the church of St. George. The frazione Ponte Caffaro lies on the shore of Lake Idro.

Lake Idro (Italian: Lago d'Idro, also Eridio from Latin: Eridius lacus, Lombard: Lac d'Ider, German: Idrosee) is an Italian prealpine lake of glacial origin situated largely within the Province of Brescia (Lombardy) and in part in Trentino. At 368 m above sea level it is the highest of the Lombard prealpine lakes. The lake is fed principally by the waters of the river Chiese; that river is also its only emissary. It has a surface area of 11.4 km2 and a maximum depth of 122 m. The lake is surrounded by wooded mountains. The shoreline of some 24 km is shared across four communes: Idro (the frazioni Crone and Lemprato), from which the lake takes its name, Anfo, Bagolino (fraz. Ponte Caffaro) and Bondone (fraz. Baitoni). Lake Idro currently faces severe problems of eutrophication resulting from the absence of adequate sewerage systems and the use of its feed-waters for irrigation and the generation of hydropower: it has become a site of conflict between environmental, agricultural and electricity industry interests. The name derives from a legendary monster (Idra) who supposedly lived there

The Ladinian is a stage and age in the Middle Triassic series or epoch. It spans the time between 242 Ma and ~237 Ma (million years ago). The Ladinian was preceded by the Anisian and succeeded by the Carnian (part of the Upper or Late Triassic). The Ladinian is coeval with the Falangian regional stage used in China.
