Monroe, Connecticut

The Monroe Center Historic District is a 120-acre (49 ha) historic district in Monroe, Connecticut with significance dating to 1762. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.It includes about 60 significant buildings, including Federal style St. Peters Church at the south end of the Monroe Center green. On June 30, 1781, a dance was held on the green for about 600 French Army troops serving under General Rochambeau; they were camped nearby during their march towards Yorktown, Virginia which led to American independence.

The Daniel Basset House is a historic house at 1024 Monroe Turnpike in Monroe, Connecticut. Built in 1775, the house is significant for its association with events in the American Revolutionary War. It is documented to have hosted a ball for French officers of Lauzun's Legion on June 30, 1781; the legion had been encamped near the village center of Monroe. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

Great Hollow Lake is approximately 16 acres (65,000 m2) in size and is a part of William E. Wolfe Park, located in Monroe, Connecticut. The lake includes a trout park with approximately 700 feet (210 m) of beach and facilities. Fishing, swimming and non-motorized boating are all permitted.

WMNR (88.1 FM, "Fine Arts Radio") is a radio station licensed to Monroe, Connecticut. The station is municipally owned by the Town of Monroe and broadcasts mainly classical music.

Masuk High School is a public high school in Monroe, Connecticut, United States, and includes grades 9 through 12. It is located on Connecticut Route 111 (Monroe Turnpike) in Monroe, between Old Coach Road and Pond View Road. The school has an indoor swimming pool and various successful clubs & sports.

The Nathan B. Lattin Farm is a historic farm at 22 Walker Hill Road in Newtown, Connecticut. Founded by early colonial settlers to the area in the 18th century, it remains a good example of a rural farm property in an increasingly suburbanized area. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Stepney Cemetery is an old cemetery in Monroe, Connecticut, United States, located in the village of Stepney. It was established next to the Stepney Green in 1794. Many of the area's earliest settlers are buried in the cemetery; the oldest headstone belongs to Nathaniel W. Knapp (died 1787). The cemetery is also known as Birdsey's Plain Cemetery or Beardsley Plain Cemetery. Next to the cemetery is Our Lady of The Rosary Chapel. Ed and Lorraine Warren are buried in this cemetery.

The Thomas Hawley House at 514 Purdy Hill Road in Monroe, Connecticut, is a historic Colonial American wooden post-and-beam saltbox farm house built in 1730. Hawley was the great grandson of Joseph Hawley (Captain) of Stratford, Connecticut, through Samuel. A drawing and description of the house was included in J. Frederick Kelly's book, The Early Domestic Architecture of Connecticut first published in 1924.

Stepney, also referred to as Stepney Village and Upper Stepney, is a district of the town of Monroe, Connecticut, and on the Connecticut State Register of Historic Places. Consisting of approximately 8 square miles (21 km2), Stepney extends from the Trumbull town line, along Route 25, to the Newtown town line. It was listed as a census-designated place prior to the 2020 census.First settled around 1720, Stepney was originally a productive farming community made up of transplants from settlements to the south such as Fairfield and Stratford. In the early 19th century, Stepney became a transportation hub for travelers going to and from the city of Danbury and the Greater Bridgeport areas as travelers followed the Bridgeport and Newtown Turnpike, the first paved road in the town of Monroe, and along Hattertown Road. Once a depot for the Housatonic Railroad, and home to the town of Monroe's first fire department, the Stepney Volunteer Fire Department, today Stepney is home to over a dozen historic buildings dating from before the 20th century, and is predominantly a suburban community with the majority of its business located along the Route 25 corridor.

Botsford is a village of Newtown in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. The town of Newtown has one political body, but consists of multiple geographic subdivisions. It currently contains a fire department and post office. CT 25 runs along the western part of the village. Botsford was listed as a census-designated place prior to the 2020 census.Robert Winkler, naturalist and author of Going Wild: Adventures with Birds in the Suburban Wilderness, is a resident.The Connecticut Green Industries Council, a partner of UConn in the NextGenCT project is headquartered in town. The Council also routinely testifies on agricultural and certain local matters to the Connecticut General Assembly.

East Village is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Monroe, Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. It occupies the northeast end of the town of Monroe, extending northeast to the Housatonic River (the town border with Oxford) and southwest to Walnut Street. It is bordered to the southeast by the city of Shelton and to the northwest by the town of Newtown. East Village was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census.

Gregory's Four Corners Burial Ground, a cemetery established in Trumbull, Connecticut in 1761, is located on Spring Hill Road near the Monroe town line and is maintained by the Trumbull Parks Commission.
