Ovid, Colorado

Lodgepole Creek is a tributary of the South Platte River, approximately 278 miles (447 km) long, in the U.S. states of Wyoming, Nebraska and Colorado. Lodgepole Creek drains a basin in the interior of a low plateau which lies between the South Platte Basin and the North Platte Basin in the southeastern corner of Wyoming, the southern edge of the Nebraska Panhandle and several small portions of northeastern Colorado. As its name implies, Lodgepole Creek is a very small stream; for nearly all of its length it flows through the semiarid High Plains. The Lodgepole Creek Valley has been a major transportation route for over 100 years; the line of the original transcontinental railroad, the Lincoln Highway/U.S. Highway 30 and Interstate 80 all run along the stream for much of its length.

Fort Sedgwick, also known as Post at Julesburg, Camp Rankin, and Fort Rankin was a U.S. military post from 1864 to 1871, in Sedgwick County, Colorado. There are two historical markers for the former post. The town was named for Fort Sedgwick, which was named after John Sedgwick, who was a major general in the Union Army during the American Civil War.

The Battle of Julesburg took place on January 7, 1865, near Julesburg, Colorado between 1,000 Cheyenne, Arapaho, and Lakota Indians and about 60 soldiers of the U.S. army and 40 to 50 civilians. The Indians defeated the soldiers and over the next few weeks plundered ranches and stagecoach stations up and down the South Platte River valley.

Sedgwick County is a county located in the U.S. state of Colorado. As of the 2020 census, the population was 2,404. The county seat is Julesburg. The county was named for Fort Sedgwick, a military post along the Platte Trail, which was named for General John Sedgwick. It is located at the state border with Nebraska.

Julesburg is the statutory town that is the county seat of and the most populous municipality in Sedgwick County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,307 at the 2020 United States census.

The Sedgwick County Courthouse, located at 315 Cedar St. in Julesburg, Colorado, was built during 1938-39 by the Works Progress Administration (WPA). It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007; the listing included two contributing buildings. It was deemed significant in social history for representing federal relief programs; its construction provided "much needed assistance by giving jobs to the unemployed of the county during the Great Depression." It also was deemed significant architecturally, as "an excellent example of the Art Deco style as applied to a government building whose construction was constrained by the economic conditions of the Depression." It was designed by Jamieson and Stiffler, architects of Denver.

The Union Pacific Railroad Julesburg Depot, at 210 W. First St. in Julesburg, Colorado, and also known as the Depot Museum, was built in 1930. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a brick, one-story building built as a standard Union Pacific Railroad "combination-type" depot, i.e. handling passengers as well as freight and express shipments. The depot was hit by a tornado on June 6, 1947, that badly damaged the building; it was repaired. In 1974 it was moved a short distance and turned into a museum. It was listed on the National Register in 2004. It was deemed significant for its role in transportation and the economic growth of Julesburg, and architecturally for its design, materials, and workmanship which are preserved despite the building having been moved a short distance.

KJBL (96.5 FM) is a radio station licensed to Julesburg, Colorado, United States. The station is owned by Armada Media - Mccook. Along with carrying classic hits, the station airs local high school football games. The station carries local news as well. Music on KJBL is primarily satellite fed.

The South Platte River Trail Scenic and Historic Byway is a 19-mile (31 km) Colorado Scenic and Historic Byway located in Sedgwick County, Colorado, USA. The byway follows the historic trails used during westward expansion. The route, which includes County Road 28 (CR 28) and U.S. Highway 138 (US 138), connects Ovid and Julesburg and encircles the South Platte River. It was designated a Colorado Scenic and Historic Byway in 1991.
