Woolston School

Sholing railway station is a railway station serving the suburb of Sholing, on the edge of Southampton, England, operated by South Western Railway. It is the finishing point of the Itchen Way, a 32-mile long-distance footpath.

Itchen was an urban district in Hampshire, England from 1898 to 1920. It was formed in 1898 from the parishes of St Mary Extra and Sholing (itself created in 1894 from part of the Hound parish). From 1894 to 1898 both these parishes had formed part of the South Stoneham Rural District. A unified parish of Itchen, coterminous with the urban district was created in 1903. The urban district was abolished in 1920 and added to the county borough of Southampton.

Mayfield Park is a recreational area straddling Woolston and Weston in Southampton, England. The stream that runs through the park is the boundary between the two districts of modern Southampton.The park is owned and maintained by Southampton City Council. It was previously part of the Chamberlayne family's Weston Grove estate. Much of the rest of the Weston Grove estate has been used to develop the post-war suburb of Weston. Mayfield Park survives because it was split from the Weston Grove estate in the nineteenth century, becoming the Mayfield Estate.

Day's Itchen Ground was a cricket ground in Southampton, which hosted first-class cricket from 1848 to 1850.

Miller's Pond is an 8.1-hectare (20-acre) Local Nature Reserve in Southampton in Hampshire. It is owned and managed by Southampton City Council.The pond is managed for both angling and wildlife. There are also areas of acid grassland and semi-natural woodland.The pond is fed by springs and drains to the stream that runs through Mayfield Park.

Woolston is a suburb of Southampton, Hampshire, located on the eastern bank of the River Itchen. It is bounded by the River Itchen, Sholing, Peartree Green, Itchen and Weston. The area has a strong maritime and aviation history. The former hamlet grew as new industries, roads and railways came to the area in the Victorian era with Woolston formally incorporated into the borough of Southampton in 1920.

Weston is a small suburb on the south-eastern side of Southampton, UK, predominantly built on the Weston Grove Estate formerly owned by the Chamberlayne family. It also includes the area that was previously the Barnfield Estate. Weston includes part of Mayfield Park, which was previously the Mayfield Estate. Weston is bounded by Woolston, Sholing, Netley and Southampton Water.

HMS Europa was a Royal Navy Shore establishment active between 1939 and 1946 during World War II as the central depot for the Royal Naval Patrol Service (RNPS). It was established after the commandeering of Sparrows Nest Gardens, a private residence in Lowestoft in Suffolk. Originally named Pembroke X, the base was the headquarters of the RNPS, responsible for protecting coastal Britain and its convoys, in particular undertaking minesweeping duties. Over 70,000 men and 6,000 vessels, many of them small civilian vessels such as armed trawlers, served in the RNPS during the war.The base was decommissioned in 1946. It is now the site of Lowestoft War Memorial Museum.

HMS Abatos was a Royal Navy shore establishment responsible for the planning of Operation Pluto, the construction of the undersea pipeline that supplied the Allied troops with fuel during the liberation of Europe in 1944, after D-Day. There was another Operation Pluto training establishment at Tilbury, under the name HMS Abastor. The Admiralty requisitioned the remains of the Supermarine factory in Woolston, Southampton in 1943. The base was commissioned on 21 September 1943 as a tender to HMS Shrapnel. Just before D-Day, the force established headquarters at 21 Upper Vicarage Road, Woolston The headquarters had shifted to Norfolk House by 1945, and moved again on 26 November 1945 to Rex House. Abatos was paid off in March 1946, though no new appointments had been made in the navy list of October 1945. The establishment had one designated depot ship, the Naval Auxiliary Boat Gondolier Prince.

Peartree Ward is an Electoral Ward in the Unitary Authority of Southampton, England. It covers the suburbs of Merry Oak, Peartree Green and Itchen, and is bordered (clockwise from south-west) by Bargate Ward, Bevois Ward, Bitterne Park Ward, Harefield Ward, Sholing Ward, and Woolston Ward. Notable residents include the former Member of Parliament and George Medal recipient Royston Smith.

Peartree Green is an open space on high ground on the east bank of the River Itchen in Southampton. A 16/17th century building, Peartree House, still stands, though is today concealed by private housing. The house and the green take their name from a pear tree that grew near the parish church. Some of the original open space has been built on, but a large proportion remains as a recreational area. It contains a church and the remains of a boarding school. It overlooks the River Itchen to St Mary's Church in Southampton.
