Seaside, California

Sand City is a city in Monterey County, California, United States, located on the shores of Monterey Bay, and surrounded on most sides by the larger city of Seaside. Sand City is located 2 miles (3 km) northeast of Monterey, at an elevation of 72 feet (22 m). The population was 325 at the 2020 census. The city is predominantly a business community, and has a number of larger retail stores. The West End area of Sand City, once an industrial area, hosts a growing artists' colony. Every August, the artists of Sand City and neighboring areas hold a street fair called the "West End Celebration".

Del Monte Heights (Del Monte, Spanish for "Of The Mountain") is a neighborhood of Seaside in Monterey County, California. It was formerly an unincorporated community. It is located 1 mile (1.6 km) east of downtown Seaside, at an elevation of 151 feet (46 m).Del Monte Heights was laid out in 1909 by F.M. Hilby and George W. Phelps.

Seaside High School is a school located in Seaside, California. The school first opened in September 1963 to sophomores and juniors (incoming seniors continued to attend Monterey High School until graduation), graduating its first class in June 1965. Average annual enrollment is 1,400 students, attending grades 9–12. The school serves the communities of Seaside, Monterey, Marina, Sand City, and Del Rey Oaks. Its student body reflects the region's diversity of language, ethnicity, nationality, and cultures. The school mascot is the Spartan.

Del Rey Oaks (Del Rey, Spanish for "Of the King") is a city in Monterey County, California, United States. It is located just southeast of Seaside, at an elevation of 82 feet (25 m). The population was 1,592 at the 2020 census. Del Rey Oaks is a member of the Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments, a regional government agency.

Rancho Noche Buena was a 4,412-acre (17.85 km2) Mexican land grant in present day Monterey County, California given in 1835 by Governor José Castro to Juan Antonio Muñoz. The name means "Christmas Eve". The grant extended along Monterey Bay northeast of Monterey, and encompassed present day Seaside.

Artichoke Festival (formally known as Castroville Artichoke Festival) is a food festival held annually in Monterey, a town in Monterey County of the U.S. State of California. The city, which calls itself the "Artichoke Center of the World", began promoting the artichoke with a festival in 1960, and the festival has grown so large that it has been moved out of the town, into a nearby convention center. Artichoke Festival 2009 marked the 50th anniversary of this celebration.

Monterey Regional Airport (IATA: MRY, ICAO: KMRY, FAA LID: MRY) is three miles (5 km) southeast of Monterey, in Monterey County, California, United States. It was created in 1936 and was known as the Monterey Peninsula Airport until the board of directors renamed it on September 14, 2011.The airport is owned by the municipalities that make up the Monterey Peninsula Airport District. It is a public entity and its five-member board of directors is publicly elected.The airport has its origins with flights from the polo field of the Hotel Del Monte in 1910. In 1941, local communities formed the Monterey Peninsula Airport District and acquired land to build an airport. World War II intervened, and the U.S. Navy leased the land, opening Naval Auxiliary Air Station Monterey on May 23, 1943. The Navy remained at the airport until 1972.

Live at Monterey is an album that contains the performance by the Jimi Hendrix Experience recorded at the Monterey Pop Festival on June 18, 1967. The Monterey Jazz Festival is an annual music festival that takes place in Monterey, California, United States. It debuted on October 3, 1958, championed by Dave Brubeck and co-founded by jazz and popular music critic Ralph J. Gleason and jazz disc jockey Jimmy Lyons.

The Monterey International Pop Festival was a three-day music festival held June 16 to 18, 1967, at the Monterey County Fairgrounds in Monterey, California. The festival is remembered for the first major American appearances by the Jimi Hendrix Experience, the Who and Ravi Shankar, the first large-scale public performance of Janis Joplin and the introduction of Otis Redding to a mass American audience. The festival embodied the theme of California as a focal point for the counterculture and generally is regarded as one of the beginnings of the "Summer of Love" in 1967 and the public debut of the hippie, flower power and flower children movements and era. Because Monterey was widely promoted and heavily attended, featured historic performances, and was the subject of a popular theatrical documentary film, it became an inspiration and a template for future music festivals, including the Woodstock Festival two years later. Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner said "Monterey was the nexus – it sprang from what the Beatles began, and from it sprang what followed."

Rancho Saucito was a 2,212-acre (8.95 km2) Mexican land grant in present day Monterey County, California given in 1833 by Governor José Figueroa to Graciano Manjares. The grant was located east of Monterey and the present day Monterey Regional Airport, and is bordered on the east by Rancho Laguna Seca.
