Palmdale High School is located in Palmdale, California and is part of the Antelope Valley Union High School District. About 4,000 students attend Palmdale High School in grades 9 through 12. Palmdale High School was founded in 1956.

The Palmdale Transportation Center is a multi-modal transportation center featuring a Metrolink rail station, a local bus hub, and commuter bus hub in the city of Palmdale, California. The center was completely rebuilt in April 2005. It features a "clock tower plaza" which has an enclosed waiting room with concessions and vending, public telephone, restrooms, a bus pass sales office, and security service. The center has four partially enclosed shelters at the bus hub and six partially enclosed shelters for the rail platform. The center also has a large park and ride facility with 586 spaces.

The Scaled Composites Triumph is a twin-engine, business jet prototype designed and built by Burt Rutan's Scaled Composites for Beechcraft. It was known officially as the Model 143, and internally at Scaled as the "Tuna". The aircraft is a three lifting surface design, with both a small canard, and a small conventional horizontal stabilizer in a T-tail configuration.

The Joe Davies Heritage Airpark, formerly known as the Palmdale Plant 42 Heritage Airpark is an aviation museum and airpark located in Palmdale, California with various United States military aircraft on display. The park is located adjacent to the United States Air Force Plant 42 and the Blackbird Airpark Museum. All of the aircraft on display were donated or loaned to the city of Palmdale, which owns and operates the park.

The Los Angeles Air Route Traffic Control Center (ICAO: KZLA, FAA LID: ZLA) is an air traffic control center located in Palmdale, California, United States. Located adjacent to United States Air Force Plant 42 and the Palmdale Regional Airport, it is one of 22 Air Route Traffic Control Centers (ARTCC) operated by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Los Angeles ARTCC controls en route air traffic over southern and central California, southern Nevada, southwestern Utah, western Arizona, and portions of the Pacific Ocean Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), with the exception of military airspace and lower-level airspace controlled by local airport towers and Terminal Control Centers (TRACON).

Una Lake is a sag pond in Palmdale, Los Angeles County, California. It is in Antelope Valley, in the San Andreas Rift Zone at an elevation of 2,812 feet/857 meters.

Lake Palmdale is an artificial lake completed in 1924 along with the nearby Little Rock Reservoir created by Little Rock Dam. Its source of water is the California State Water Project and it is fed by the California Aqueduct. It is located in the city of Palmdale near the city's southern edge, in the small Anaverde Valley between the San Andreas Fault and the base of Mount Tenhi.

Skunk Works is an official pseudonym for Lockheed Martin's Advanced Development Programs (ADP), formerly called Lockheed Advanced Development Projects. It is responsible for a number of aircraft designs, highly classified R&D programs, and exotic aircraft platforms. Known locations include United States Air Force Plant 42 and United States Air Force Plant 4. Most notably, a majority of classified testing is thought to be conducted at sites such as the Nevada Test Site. Skunk Works history started with the P-38 Lightning in 1939 and the P-80 Shooting Star in 1943. Skunk Works engineers subsequently developed the U-2, SR-71 Blackbird, F-117 Nighthawk, F-22 Raptor, and F-35 Lightning II, the latter being used in the air forces of several countries. The Skunk Works name was taken from the "Skonk Oil" factory in the comic strip Li'l Abner. The designation "skunk works" or "skunkworks" is widely used in business, engineering, and technical fields to describe a group within an organization given a high degree of autonomy and unhampered by bureaucracy, with the task of working on advanced or secret projects.

Alpine, more fully Alpine Springs and also called Harold, was an unincorporated community in Los Angeles County, California located 2 miles south of where Palmdale is now.The Trego Post Office was located at the Alpine Station stop on the Southern Pacific Railroad which stood at what is today the intersection of Sierra Highway and Barrel Springs Road (previously Fort Tejon Road). The Trego post office was in operation from July 1, 1884, until December 18, 1884, when the name was changed to Harold. The first Harold post office was established on December 19, 1890, and was discontinued on September 16, 1894. A second post office named Harold was in operation from July 13, 1895, until June 15, 1901, when the papers were moved to Palmdale.Alpine Station was mostly populated by railway employees, and Harold/Alpine dwindled as New Palmdale grew alongside it. Originally the major rail transport hub for Palmdale, Harold lost its railway depot to the latter in 1892, having shrunk at that point to a hotel-cum-saloon and a few houses. Similarly, the reservoir to the south of Palmdale, constructed in 1897 by the Antelope Valley Irrigation Company and known as the Alpine or Harold Reservoir, as well as Yuna Lake (now Lake Palmdale), lost its importance when Little Rock Creek river was dammed (by Little Rock Dam) in the 1920s, creating a reservoir with a greater capacity to serve Palmdale.Investors hoped to revive the area's fortunes and turn it into a resort; construction was started on the Alpine Springs Hotel and Sanatorium in 1908 on the west side of Sierra Highway. However, the construction was never finished. By 1926 only a few shacks and the Harold Square Deal Garage remained, and in the 21st century it is the site of the Alpine Springs Mobile Home Park.In addition to the mobile home park, some vestiges of the settlement remain in local names, including streets named Harold Second, Harold Third, Harold Beech, and Harold Ash.

Palmdale Regional Medical Center is a private hospital located in Palmdale, California. This hospital was the most expensive hospital project Universal Health Services has ever undertaken at US$200 million. Adjacent to the hospital itself is a 60,000-square-foot (5,600 m2) medical office tower, called the Palmdale Medical Plaza. The hospital complex will also feature apartment housing for those who need assisted living. The hospital complex is 34.17 acres (13.83 ha). This acute care facility is the only hospital in Palmdale, the largest city in California without a hospital prior to opening in December 2010. The hospital is 320,000 square feet (30,000 m2), and provides 775 jobs to the area. It opened with 127 beds, with another 44 beds approved to be added 8 months after opening. The hospital will be able to expand to 239 beds at maximum development.This new facility features a 35-bed emergency department, the largest in the Antelope Valley area, and a heliport (FAA LID: 50CN).

Dry Town Water Park is a waterpark located in Palmdale, California that opens each year from the Memorial Day weekend in May through Labor Day in September. The park features a 35-foot tower structure that holds three waterslides with a three foot deep splashdown pool, a second tower structure that holds a four-lane racer slide, a 6,000 square foot children's water playground with three slides, spray features, and a giant overhead splash bucket, and a 925-foot lazy river that winds around the center of the park.

United States Air Force Plant 42 (IATA: PMD, ICAO: KPMD, FAA LID: PMD) is a classified aircraft manufacturing plant owned by the United States Air Force in the Antelope Valley, about 60 miles (100 kilometers) from downtown Los Angeles. It is also used by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Plant 42 shares a runway with Palmdale Regional Airport (PMD).
