Lieutenant Alan Rice-Oxley (1 July 1896 – 21 July 1961) was a British pilot during World War I. He became a flying ace in 1918, credited with six aerial victories.

Uploders is a small village in Dorset, England. It consists mainly of houses, and has a pub, the Crown, a Grade II listed Methodist chapel and a playing field. The River Asker runs through the village. It is a linear village, surrounding the minor road between Bridport and Askerswell. It is around 0.5 mi (0.80 km) from Loders, and around 3 mi (4.8 km) from Bridport, the nearest town. The A35 trunk road also passes by around 0.5 mi (0.80 km) south of the village. There are several places of interest to visit, such as the market town of Bridport, the harbour at West Bay, the beaches along the Jurassic Coast, Burton Bradstock and West Bay being the nearest, and the Iron Age hill fort of Eggardon Hill Which is about 2 mi (3.2 km) To the east.

West Milton is a small village in western Dorset, in South West England, about 3 miles (5 km) northeast of Bridport and 1 mile (1.6 km) west of Powerstock. The village is on the Mangerton River, a tributary of the River Asker. West Milton is part of Powerstock civil parish.

The Mangerton River or Mangerton Brook is a 13.37 km (8.31 mi) long river in Dorset, England that is a tributary of the River Asker. The river rises at Powerstock and flows westward through the small village of West Milton (at the centre of the river), then southward through the hamlet Mangerton, before flowing into the River Asker at Bradpole, near Bridport, which itself flows into the River Brit. It also flows through the West Dorset Alder Woods protected area. Mangerton River powers the Grade II-listed Mangerton Mill.

Bradpole is a village and civil parish in south west Dorset, England, in the Brit valley, 1 mile (1.6 km) outside Bridport. In the 2011 census the population of the parish was 2,339.In 1651 Charles II passed through Bradpole in his efforts to evade capture after he failed to sail to France from Charmouth following his defeat at the Battle of Worcester. An inscribed stone in the south of the parish, where Lee Lane meets the A35 trunk road between Bridport and Dorchester, marks the place where he took a turning off the main road to escape from his pursuers.Bradpole is the birthplace of industrialist and Liberal Party politician William Edward Forster (1818–1886), who was instrumental in bringing through the 1870 Elementary Education Act. He is commemorated by the village Memorial Hall.The parish church was built in 1845, following two previous buildings on the same site. Its communion cup dates from the 16th century. A chapel of ease, St Andrew's, was built in 1858-60 and is now redundant.

Walditch is a small village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Bothenhampton, in the Dorset district, in the ceremonial county of Dorset, England. It is situated about 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) to the east of the town of Bridport. The name Walditch is derived from an older term Waldyke, which alludes to the village's location: Walditch is located in the valley of a curved hill that encompasses the village; the hill has a dry stone wall still partially in place, which continues over towards Bothenhampton. In 1891 the parish had a population of 175. In 1897 the parish was abolished and merged with Brothenhampton and Bridport.Walditch has a real tennis court, on the site of which Henry VII of England played during his visits to the area. Walditch is composed of Old Walditch (the original Walditch) and lower Walditch, a housing estate built around 1998. The village no longer has a stated member of clergy; the last person to fill this role being the Rev. Maureen Alchin, who was a local figure. Walditch formerly lay within the Hundred of Godderthorne.

Shipton Gorge is a village and civil parish in southwest Dorset, England, 3 miles (4.8 km) east of Bridport. Dorset County Council's 2013 mid-year estimate of the population of Shipton Gorge parish is 350. In the 2011 national census, results have been published for the parish of Shipton Gorge combined with the small neighbouring parish of Chilcombe to the east; the population of these areas was 381.In 1086 in the Domesday Book Shipton Gorge was recorded as Sepetone. The village is named after the de Gorges family who owned the land hundreds of years ago. The parish church of St Martin—which used to be a chapel of Burton Bradstock—was rebuilt in 1862, except for its west tower which dates from around 1400.The terrain surrounding the village is hilly. Northeast of the village is Shipton Hill, which offers good views of the surrounding countryside from its 170 metres (560 ft) summit. On the hill is evidence of a prehistoric settlement.Squadron Leader Ted Flavell, who in 1956 had carried out the first British air drop of an atomic bomb during Operation Buffalo, lived in Shipton Gorge during his retirement.

The Shipton Hill Settlement is an archaeological site, a defended settlement of the Iron Age, near Shipton Gorge in Dorset, England. It is a scheduled monument.

Bridport railway station formerly served the town of Bridport in the English county of Dorset. The station was on the Maiden Newton-Bridport branch line; the station (and branch line) opened in 1857 and was closed by British Rail in 1975.
