Broadwindsor

Conegar Road Cutting (grid reference ST439028) is a 0.15 hectare geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Dorset, notified in 1996.

Conegar Hill is a prominent rise, 214 metres (702 ft) high, just north of the village of Broadwindsor in the Yeovil Scarplands, in the county of Dorset in southern England. It has a prominence of 51 metres (167 ft) which classifies it as one of the Tumps.The actual summit is unwooded and bounded to the east and west by tributaries of the River Axe and to the south by the Broadwindsor col to Waddon Hill. To the north is Blagdon Hill, a subsummit on the same ridge. The B3164 from Broadwindsor crosses the southeastern flank of Conegar Hill to join the A 3066 at Whetley Cross 2 kilometres to the northeast. A small lane, branches off northwards across the western side of the hill.The name "Conegar" derives from the early Medieval English term "cony-garth" literally meaning rabbit yard. The name was chosen as the hill was possibly the remnants of an ancient man-made pillow mound, used for raising rabbits or because of the close resemblance to a pillow mound.

Seaborough Hill is a prominent ridge, 204 metres (669 ft) high, on the Dorset-Somerset border in the Yeovil Scarplands in southwestern England. It has a prominence of 80 metres (260 ft) which classifies it as one of the Tumps.Seaborough Hill rises immediately north of the village of Seaborough and about 3 kilometres southwest of the town centre of Crewkerne. A minor road traverses the summit from north to south and there is a trig point (201 m) by the lane at the northern end of the summit ridge, near Honeydown Farm. There are scattered woods on the western and eastern flanks of the hill. The River Axe runs past the hill to the south and two major trails - Liberty Trail and Monarch's Way bypass it to the north and south respectively. The county boundary runs along the ridgeline before swinging around the northern spur of the hill and heading away to the southeast.

Lewesdon Hill is a hill in west Dorset, England. With a maximum elevation of 279 m (915 ft), it is the highest point in Dorset.

Waddon Hill is a hill and the site of an old Roman fort near Beaminster, in the English county of Dorset. The name Waddon is from the Old English meaning wheat hill. The Wessex Ridgeway passes to the north of the hill summit and Roman fort. The B3162 road passes close to the western end of the hill. Lewesdon Hill is about 0.6 miles (1 km) to the west. There is no public right of way on the summit of Waddon Hill, although the hill was frequently walked by locals for centuries, until a change of ownership in the 21st century.

Burstock is a village and civil parish in west Dorset, England, 5 miles (8.0 km) south of Crewkerne. In the 2011 census the parish had 59 dwellings, 49 households and a population of 120.In 1086 Burstock was recorded in the Domesday Book as 'Bureuuinestoch', meaning a farm ('stoc') owned by either 'Burgwine' (a man) or 'Burgwynn' (a woman). It had 12 households, 8 acres of meadow and 3 ploughlands. It was in Whitchurch Canonicorum Hundred, the lord was William Malbank and the tenant-in-chief was Earl Hugh of Chester.Before the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the mid 16th century, Burstock was closely associated with the Cistercian monks at nearby Forde Abbey; at Whetham, in the north of the parish, the abbey developed a mill, and in 1316 the Abbot became Burstock's lord of the manor.

Stoke Abbott is a village and civil parish in west Dorset, England, 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Beaminster. In 2013 the estimated population of the parish was 190.The author Ralph Wightman, agriculturist, broadcaster, and native of Dorset, described the village as "a beautiful place of deep lanes, orchards and old houses, with a church of quiet charm", and, in a similar vein, Sir Frederick Treves in 1906 considered it "as pretty a village as any in Dorset".On Waddon Hill to the northwest of the village are the remains of earthworks of an early settlement, consisting of a low bank 9 metres (30 ft) wide and traces of a ditch, though historic quarrying around the hill may have destroyed more. Mid-1st-century Roman and Romano-British military artefacts were found on the hill's southern slopes in 1876–1878. In the Domesday Book in 1086 the village was recorded as Stoche and had 32 households.The parish church of St Mary the Virgin has Norman origins but has been altered and added to over the centuries. The 12th-century font is notable. The poet William Crowe was rector here between 1782 and 1786; at the end of his incumbency he published his most well known piece, Lewesdon Hill, about the hill to the west of the village. The Very Rev Hedley Robert Burrows (1887–1983), who later became Archdeacon of Winchester and then Dean of Hereford, was incumbent at Stoke Abbott for a time.

St John's Church is a Church of England church in Seaborough, Dorset, England. Much of the church dates to a rebuild of 1882 and it now forms part of the Beaminster Area Team Ministry. The church is a Grade II listed building.

Seaborough is a small village and civil parish in the county of Dorset in southwest England. It is sited in the valley of the River Axe and lies approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Crewkerne in Somerset. The parish was previously part of the hundred of Crewkerne, but was transferred to within Dorset in 1896. In 2013 the estimated population of the civil parish was 60.The village church is small and mostly not of ancient construction. Ralph Wightman, broadcaster, agriculturist and a native of Dorset, described it as "delightful", and claimed that the round arch of the porch was so low it "would remove the hat of any man of average height."Seaborough lies on the northern side of the Axe valley, beneath the 204-metre-high (669 ft) Seaborough Hill. The minor lane which passes through the village and up the hill is noted for being particularly steep. At the bottom of the village the river is crossed by a small stone bridge, close to which is an old ducking pool, into which scolding wives would historically have been dipped in an attempt to 'cure' them of their condition.In March 2013 a fire at the 100-metre-long (330 ft) piggery at Seaborough Manor destroyed the building and killed about nine hundred pigs. Fifty firefighters took about three hours to tackle the blaze.

St. Mary's Church is a Church of England church in Drimpton, West Dorset, England. The church opened in 1867 and now forms part of the Beaminster Area Team Ministry.

Drimpton is a village in the English county of Dorset, situated approximately 5 miles (8.0 km) northwest of Beaminster and 3.5 miles (5.6 km) southwest of Crewkerne in Somerset. It lies within the civil parish of Broadwindsor. Drimpton is sited on a small tributary of the River Axe which was unnamed until 2005 when, after a vote by villagers, it was officially named the "Little Axe". Neighbouring settlements include Clapton, Seaborough, Blackdown, Kittwhistle, Broadwindsor, Burstock, Greenham and Netherhay, the latter two being small hamlets virtually contiguous with Drimpton. At Greenham there was once a flax mill, part of which still survives. Three books, chronicling life in the area, have recently been compiled; the project was called 'Village Voices'. Netherhay Bridge, which carries Crewkerne Road over the River Axe, was built by J & D Gale of Allington and is dated 1829. The village's single-span bridge, which forms part of the B3162 road, was built in 2003. The former Drimpton Toll House is located on Bridport Road (B3162).

Pilsdon Pen is a 277-metre (909 ft) hill in Dorset in South West England, situated at the north end of the Marshwood Vale, approximately 4.5 miles (7.2 km) west of Beaminster. It is Dorset's second highest point and has panoramic views extending for many miles. It was bequeathed to the National Trust by the Pinney family in 1982. For many years it was thought to be Dorset's highest hill, until modern survey revealed that nearby Lewesdon Hill was 2 metres higher.
