Institut de Radioastronomie Millimetrique (IRAM) is an international research institute and Europe's leading center for radio astronomy at millimeter wavelengths. Its mission is to explore the universe, study its origins and its evolution with two of the most advanced radio facilities in the world: The NOEMA observatory (NOrthern Extended Millimeter Array), an array of currently eleven 15-meter antennas located in the French Alps on the Plateau de Bure at more than 2550 meters above sea level. NOEMA is the most powerful millimeter observatory of the Northern Hemisphere. The IRAM 30-meter telescope, located at 2850 meters altitude on Pico Veleta in the Spanish Sierra Nevada (Andalucia, Spain). The telescope is the world's premier single-dish facility for astronomical research in the millimeter wavelength range.Both sites are at high altitude to reduce the absorption by water vapour in Earth's atmosphere. The telescopes are supported by the IRAM offices and laboratories in Granada and Grenoble, respectively. The IRAM headquarters are on the campus of Université Grenoble Alpes near Grenoble. More than 120 scientists, engineers, technicians and administrative personnel work for the IRAM organization. The institute's laboratories cover the complete field of high frequency technology. IRAM staff develop cutting edge technology for the IRAM facilities and to the benefit of the international astronomical community.

The École nationale supérieure d'informatique et de mathématiques appliquées, or Ensimag, is a prestigious French Grande École located in Grenoble, France. Ensimag is part of the Institut polytechnique de Grenoble (Grenoble INP). The school is one of the top French engineering institutions and specializes in computer science, applied mathematics and telecommunications. In the fields of computer science and applied mathematics, Ensimag ranks first in France, as measured by the position of its students in the national admission examinations and by the ranking of companies hiring its students and specialized media.Students are usually admitted to Ensimag competitively following two years of undergraduate studies in classes préparatoires aux grandes écoles. Studies at Ensimag are of three years' duration and lead to the French degree of "Diplôme National d'Ingénieur" (equivalent to a master's degree). Grenoble, in the French Alps, has always been a pioneer for high-tech engineering education in France. The first French school of electrical engineering has been created in Grenoble in 1900 (one of the first in the world after MIT). In 1960 the eminent French mathematician Jean Kuntzmann founded Ensimag. Since that time it has become the highest ranking French engineering school in computer science and applied mathematics. About 250 students graduates from the school each year in its different degrees, and counts with more than 5500 alumni worldwide.

The Laboratoire d'Informatique de Grenoble (LIG, Grenoble Computer Science Laboratory) is the largest research laboratory of Informatics in Grenoble, France. It was created 1 January 2007, as the result of a union of the 24 research teams of the previous IMAG Institute and the INRIA Rhône-Alpes. The scientific project of the LIG is "ambient and sustainable IT". The goal is to leverage the complementary nature and recognised quality of the 23 research teams of the LIG to contribute to fundamental aspects of the discipline (modelling, languages, methods, algorithms) and to create a synergy between the conceptual, technological and societal challenges that surround this theme. The Grenoble Informatics Laboratory (Laboratoire d’Informatique de Grenoble - LIG) is a laboratory of quite some scale, the academic partners being: The CNRS, Grenoble INP, Inria Grenoble Rhône-Alpes, the Université Joseph Fourier, the Université Pierre-Mendès-France, the Université Stendhal. The LIG is formed by about 500 people: - 41% of PhD students, - 26% of teacher-researchers, - 14% of post-doc, invited, contracts, - 10% of full-time researchers, - 9% of administrative and technical staff.

The Grenoble Institute of Political Studies (French: Institut d'études politiques de Grenoble, IEP), also known as Sciences Po Grenoble, is a French "grande école" of political science and more broadly of social sciences located in the campus of the University of Grenoble in Grenoble, France. It is administratively a subsidiary of the Université Grenoble Alpes.

The Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA, French: meaning "Grenoble Alps University") is a public research university and a grand établissement in Grenoble, France. Founded in 1339, it is the third largest university in France with about 60,000 students and over 3,000 researchers.Established as the University of Grenoble by Humbert II of Viennois, it split in 1970 following the wide-spread civil unrest of May 1968. Three of the University of Grenoble's successors—Joseph Fourier University, Pierre Mendès-France University, and Stendhal University—merged in 2016 to restore the original institution under the name Université Grenoble Alpes. Pierre Mendès-France University (UPMF, French: Université Pierre Mendès France, also known as Grenoble II) was a French university, based in Grenoble, focused on social sciences. It was named after the late French politician Pierre Mendès-France. It is now part of the Université Grenoble Alpes. Its campus was located mainly in Grenoble, with some facilities outside the city, in particular in Valence. It was established in 1339 as part of University of Grenoble. In 1970, following the fate of many big French universities, University of Grenoble was separated into three specialized institutions – Pierre Mendès-France University (social science), Joseph Fourier University (science and technology), and Stendhal University (languages). Starting 2013, there has been some movement towards reconciliation. Pierre Mendès-France University, two of its counterparts, and several other institutions reunited in the beginning of 2016 to restore the original university under the name of the Université Grenoble Alpes, which is now alma mater for over 45,000 students.

Joseph Fourier University (UJF, French: Université Joseph Fourier, also known as Grenoble I) was a French university situated in the city of Grenoble and focused on the fields of sciences, technologies and health. It is now part of the Université Grenoble Alpes.

Stendhal University (French: Université Stendhal, also known as Grenoble III) was a university located in the outskirts of Grenoble, France that offered courses in foreign languages and cultures, ancient and modern literature, language and communication sciences. Having traditionally focused on training educators, it has more recently become known for preparing students for careers in journalism, communication and culture. Each year, the CUEF (University Center for French Studies) educated over 3,000 foreign students through various exchange programs in fields covering the entire spectrum of French studies. The last president was Lise Dumasy.

The canton of Saint-Martin-d'Hères is an administrative division of the Isère department, eastern France. It was created at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. The Arboretum Robert Ruffier-Lanche (3 hectare) is an arboretum located on the campus of the Université Grenoble Alpes at 2233 rue de la Piscine, Saint-Martin-d'Hères, Isère, Rhône-Alpes, France. It is open daily without charge. The arboretum was created in 1966 beside the Isère by Robert Ruffier-Lanche, head gardener of the Jardin botanique alpin du Lautaret. After some years of neglect, its restoration began in 1999. Today the arboretum contains over 200 species of trees and shrubs from temperate environments around the world, including particularly fine specimens of Davidia involucrata, Paulownia tomentosa var tsinlingensis, and Quercus rugosa. It also contains a scaled model representation of the Solar System.

The Arboretum du Val d'Ainan (10 hectares) is a private arboretum located in Saint-Geoire-en-Valdaine, Isère, Rhône-Alpes, France. It is open primarily by appointment; a fee is charged. The arboretum was established in 1993 and now contains nearly 350 species of trees and shrubs, organized into areas as follows: mountain, Mediterranean, Caucasus, Himalaya, China, Korea and Japan, and North America. The collection concentrates on autumn foliage, remarkable tree bark, oaks, and Pinaceae.
