Varsity, Calgary

Calgary-Varsity is a provincial electoral district in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The district was created in 1993 and returns a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. It comprises the communities of Varsity, Dalhousie, Brentwood, Banff Trail, University Heights, Parkdale, Point Mckay, and Charleswood (part of the Triwood community which also includes Collingwood west of 19th St NW.

Northland Village Mall was a shopping mall located in northwest Calgary, Alberta. The mall opened in 1971, with it being further expanded in 2005. The mall closed in 2021, with demolition to redevelop the mall happening throughout the year 2022 to turn it into an open-air facility. Prior to 2021, Northland Village was a one-level shopping centre (with a small two-level section with over 60 retail shops and services). It is located at the intersection of Crowchild Trail and Shaganappi Trail, in the neighbourhoods of Brentwood and Dalhousie.

Sir Winston Churchill High School is a senior high school in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It derives its name from Sir Winston Churchill, two-term prime minister of the United Kingdom. The high school is built in the Northwest community of Brentwood. The school offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme, various second languages, and numerous clubs and teams.

CF Market Mall is one of the largest malls (by area) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada (900,490 square feet/83,658.3 m²). It is located in Varsity, a suburban neighbourhood in the city's northwest quadrant on Shaganappi Trail. The mall is jointly owned (50/50) by Cadillac Fairview and Ivanhoé Cambridge, two of Canada's largest real estate property managers and developers, but managed by the former.

University District is a neighbourhood in Calgary, Alberta. In 1995, the province transferred these lands, previously called the West Campus lands, to the University of Calgary. The University of Calgary Properties Group (UCPG), formerly West Campus Development Trust, was established to develop and manage University District. Homeowners hold subleasehold titles under 99-year leases, as the university is required to retain the fee simple title to the lands.

Brentwood is a neighbourhood in the northwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is bounded by John Laurie Boulevard to the north, Crowchild Trail to the south, Shaganappi Trail to the west, and Brisbois Drive & Charleswood Drive on the east. Nose Hill Park lies to the north of John Laurie Boulevard and is not part of Brentwood. Brentwood was established in 1960. It is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 4 councillor.Brentwood station is in Brentwood and about seven bus lines run through the neighborhood.The Northland Village Mall is located in the western extremity of the neighbourhood. Brentwood was scene to the 2014 Calgary stabbings.

Rocky Mountain College was a multi-denominational Christian college in Calgary, Alberta. It was formed in 1992 when Mountain View Bible College (Didsbury, Alberta) merged with Hillcrest Christian College (Medicine Hat, Alberta) and was sponsored by the Canada West District of the Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada. It offers one-year certificate programs, two-year diploma programs, and three and four-year Bachelor of Arts degrees

Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH) is the largest public hospital for sick children in the prairie provinces, and is located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is operated by Alberta Health Services – Calgary Health Region. The new facility opened on September 27, 2006, and is the first free-standing pediatric facility to be built in Canada in more than 20 years. It was originally opened on May 19, 1922, as the Junior Red Cross Children's Hospital. It is located west of the University of Calgary campus grounds and just across from the site of the Foothills Medical Centre. ACH is one of several children's hospitals in Canada (others being Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Shriners Hospital for Children – Canada in Montreal, Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Sainte-Justine in Montréal, Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa, McMaster Children's Hospital in Hamilton, The Children's Hospital of Winnipeg in Winnipeg, Children's Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre in London, Ontario, BC Children's Hospital in Vancouver and IWK Health Centre in Halifax).

The Olympic Oval in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is North America's first covered speed skating oval; it was built for the 1988 Winter Olympics and opened 36 years ago on September 27, 1987. Located on the University of Calgary campus, it is the official designated training centre for Speed Skating Canada and the Elite Athlete Pathway.

Montgomery is a residential neighbourhood in the northwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. Its boundaries are Shaganappi Trail to the east, 32nd Avenue and Market Mall to the north, and the Bow River to the south and west. Immediately across the river to the west is the community of Bowness, itself a town until being annexed by Calgary in 1964. Montgomery was originally established as a community in 1911. In 1943, it was renamed to Montgomery, named after Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery, 1st Viscount Montgomery of Alamein, a celebrated British military leader who played an important role in World War I and World War II. On December 24, 1957, Montgomery incorporated as a town, but changed to village status less than four months later on April 15, 1958. The village was eventually absorbed by the City of Calgary on August 15, 1963, via amalgamation. Montgomery is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 1 councillor. The community has an area redevelopment plan in place.

The Jack Simpson Gymnasium is a multipurpose facility on the University of Calgary campus. It opened in 1987 to help host the 1988 XV Olympic Winter Games. It has three full gymnasiums, three basketball courts, five volleyball courts, and an indoor football/soccer field. The "Jack" is home to the Dinos volleyball and basketball teams. With a max seating capacity of 3454, it has hosted several CIS Championships, the annual Husky Dino Cup volleyball tournament, World League volleyball matches, and is the site for the University of Calgary's annual convocation ceremonies."The facility is named after Jackson L. Simpson (1920-1984), the founder and former president of CANA Construction Company.

The University of Calgary (U of C or UCalgary) is a public research university located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The University of Calgary started in 1944 as the Calgary branch of the University of Alberta, founded in 1908, prior to being instituted into a separate, autonomous university in 1966. It is composed of 14 faculties and over 85 research institutes and centres. The main campus is located in the northwest quadrant of the city near the Bow River and a smaller south campus is located in the city centre. The main campus houses most of the research facilities and works with provincial and federal research and regulatory agencies, several of which are housed next to the campus such as the Geological Survey of Canada. The main campus covers approximately 200 hectares (490 acres).
