Churchville, Virginia

Hanger Mill, also known as Huff Mill, is a historic grist mill located at Churchville, Augusta County, Virginia. It was built about 1860, and is a 2 1/2-story, limestone and heavy mortise-and-tenon frame building with a metal gable roof and weatherboard siding. It has an attached one-story office structure. The mill operated until 1940, and retains most of its milling machinery.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

Lone Fountain is an unincorporated community located in Augusta County, Virginia, United States. It has a very small population. Its area is 1 square mile (2.6 km2).

Intervale is a historic home located at Swoope, Augusta County, Virginia. The house was built about 1819, and remodeled and enlarged in the 1880s. It is a two-story, five bay brick I-house plan dwelling in the Colonial Revival style. It has an original one-story brick ell. The interior woodwork reflects German folk art design. Also on the property are the contributing log bank barn and a two-level spring house.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

Augusta County is a county in the Shenandoah Valley on the western edge of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. The second-largest county of Virginia by total area, it completely surrounds the independent cities of Staunton and Waynesboro. Its county seat is Staunton, but most of the administrative services have offices in neighboring Verona. The county was created in 1738 from part of Orange County and was named after Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha. It was originally a huge area, but many of its parts were carved out to form other counties and several states until the current borders were finalized in 1790. As of the 2020 census, the county's population was 77,487. Along with Staunton and Waynesboro, it forms the Staunton–Waynesboro, VA Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Buffalo Gap High School (BGHS) is a public school located in Swoope, Virginia. The Buffalo Gap class of 2007 scored higher in all SAT categories than every public school in Augusta County and inlying cities. The school draws its name from the nearby Buffalo Gap. Before the 2014-2015 school year, Dr. Ian Marshall replaced William Deardorff as the principal of BGHS. Deardorff had been the principal for over 20 years.

Mount Pleasant is a historic home and farm and national historic district located near Staunton, Augusta County, Virginia. The house was built about 1780–1810, and is a two-story, hall-parlor plan limestone structure with a rear ell dating to the mid-19th century. It is reflective of architecture of the Federal era. It has an original one-story brick ell. Also on the property are a contributing barn, corncrib, garage, storage shed, chicken house, the spring house, and an equipment shed. The property also include the ruins of a mill.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Cedar Green is an unincorporated community in Augusta County, Virginia, United States. Cedar Green is located along Virginia State Route 254 3.1 miles (5.0 km) west of Staunton. The Augusta County Training School, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is located near Cedar Green.

Augusta County Training School, also known as Cedar Green School, is a historic public school building located at Cedar Green, Augusta County, Virginia. It was built in 1938, and is a one-story, central-auditorium plan frame building with projecting classroom wings on each side of a recessed auditorium. It features a projecting entrance portico and steeply pitched roof in a vernacular Neo-Classical style. It opened as a "Training School," but was later used as an elementary school. It was the first consolidated school larger than two rooms built for African American students in Augusta County. The American Legion purchased the building in 1966 and remodeled it for their lodge.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Steephill, also known as Steep Hill, is a historic home built in c. 1878 and located at Staunton, Virginia. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. It also went by the name Peyton Estate, it had been the family home for John Lewis Peyton and his heirs until 1964.

Long Glade Farm, also known as Short Glade Farm and Springdale Farm, is a historic plantation house and farm located near Mount Solon, Augusta County, Virginia. The house was built in 1852, and a two-story, three-bay, "I-house" form brick dwelling in the Greek Revival style. It has an original rear ell. The front facade features a reconstructed front porch with Doric order columns and a balustrade. Also on the property are a contributing meat house, former slaves quarters, a corn crib, a bank barn, a pig house, and a family cemetery.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

Cobble Hill Farm is a 196-acre farm in Staunton, Virginia. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 2004. It is composed of three parcels: two tenant farms and the Cobble Hill parcel. The Cobble Hill house is a 2+1⁄2-story masonry house with a steep-gabled roof, with accents in the Tudor Revival and French Eclectic styles, with a formal garden and pool. It has a one-story, side-gabled porch, with a large, coursed-stone chimney near the entry porch. The roof surfaces are all finished with wood shingles. The building was designed in 1936 by Sam Collins, and built in 1937 for William Ewing's widow.One of the tenant farms lies across the street and is accessed from Woodlee Rd., and contains a frame, two-story, three-bay, center hall plan vernacular farmhouse, plus several outbuildings, with 46 acres of land. The second tenant farm consists of a frame, side-gabled, three-bay, 2+1⁄2-story I house with an ell addition, and sits on 63 acres of farm land. Cobble Hill Farm has several contributing sites and structures, including a garden, pool, shed complex, dairy and feed barns, a summerhouse, a tower, and the buildings of the tenant parcels. It is still a functional farm, producing sheep and hay. Its area of historical significance is in architecture and engineering.

Staunton ( STAN-tən) is an independent city in the U.S. Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 25,750. In Virginia, independent cities are separate jurisdictions from the counties that surround them, so the government offices of Augusta County are in Verona, which is contiguous to Staunton. Staunton is a principal city of the Staunton-Waynesboro Metropolitan Statistical Area, which had a 2010 population of 118,502. Staunton is known for being the birthplace of Woodrow Wilson, the 28th U.S. president, and as the home of Mary Baldwin University, historically a women's college. The city is also home to Stuart Hall, a private co-ed preparatory school, as well as the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind. It was the first city in the United States with a fully defined city manager system.
