Fox Ridge State Park

The Five Mile House is a historic brick house five miles [CONVERT] southeast of Charleston, IL, at the intersection of IL 130 and Westfield Rd. Built in the 1840s, the house is one of the oldest remaining structures in Coles County. The house is now operated as a museum and is owned by the Five Mile House Foundation. The name "Five Mile House" alludes to the house's distance from the Coles County Courthouse in Charleston.

Blakeman Bridge is an arch bridge which crosses the Embarras River in Coles County, Illinois. The concrete bridge is supported by three arches and is 257 feet (78 m) long. The Mercantile Bridge Company built the bridge in 1907. The bridge spanned the river at the site of the first mill and settlement in Coles County. As Illinois Route 130 crosses the river only 200 feet (61 m) upstream, the bridge was used as a detour for that route when its bridge was replaced.The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 30, 1981.

Hutton Township is one of twelve townships in Coles County, Illinois, USA. As of the 2020 census, its population was 763 and it contained 350 housing units.

The Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site is an 86-acre (0.3 km2) history park located eight miles (13 km) south of Charleston, Illinois, U.S., near the town of Lerna. The centerpiece is a replica of the log cabin built and occupied by Thomas Lincoln, father of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln never lived here and only occasionally visited, but he provided financial help to the household and, after Thomas died in 1851, Abraham owned and maintained the farm for his stepmother, Sarah Bush Lincoln. The farmstead is operated by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.

Campbell is an unincorporated community in southern Coles County, Illinois, United States. Campbell is 7 miles (11 km) south-southwest of Charleston. The Embarras River and Fox Ridge State Park are approximately three miles to the east and the Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site is one mile south.

Lake Charleston is a reservoir in Coles County, Illinois. Served by Illinois Route 130, it is 2 miles (3 km) southeast of the Illinois city of Charleston. Much of the lake is surrounded by city parkland, and a lakeside circular trail is 3.6 miles (6.0 km) in length. Power boats are allowed, but the lake enforces a no-wake rule. There is a fishing pier.The lake is located in Charleston Township and the adjacent Hutton Township. The reservoir is fed by the adjacent Embarras River, which was dammed by engineers to create the reservoir. The reservoir is served by Exit 119 on Interstate 70 in nearby Cumberland County.

WEIU (88.9 FM) is a 4,000 watt effective radiated power radio station in Charleston, Illinois. Owned by Eastern Illinois University, it is a sister station to campus television station WEIU-TV. The two stations share studios on the EIU campus in Charleston. The station licensee, Eastern Illinois University is authorized by the Federal Communications Commission. The station first signed on in 1982.

Mary J. Booth Library, named after University Librarian Mary Josephine Booth, serves the students, faculty and staff of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois.

Coaches Stadium at Monier Field is a baseball venue in Charleston, Illinois, United States. It is home to the Eastern Illinois Panthers baseball team of the NCAA Division I Ohio Valley Conference. It has a capacity of 500 spectators. Eastern Illinois' baseball program has used the field since its 1982 move to Division I. Originally known simply as Monier Field, the facility was renamed after 2002 renovations, which added chairback seating, a press box, a sprinkler system, brick dugouts, and concessions. Fourteen red brick pillars, one for each of Eastern Illinois' 14 baseball coaches, surround the stadium.

Lantz Arena is a 5,400-seat multi-purpose arena in Charleston, Illinois. It is home to the Eastern Illinois University (EIU) Panthers men's and women's basketball teams and to the women's volleyball team. Completed in 1967, the Lantz Arena Complex also houses the offices of the EIU athletic department, the Lantz Indoor Fieldhouse, and the Ray Padovan Swimming Pool. The building replaced the Health Education Building (now known as McAfee Gymnasium), which was built in 1938 and is now on the National Register of Historic Places. The arena complex is named for Charles Lantz, longtime football, basketball, and baseball coach of the Panthers.

The Health Education Building, also known as the McAfee Gym, is a historic building located on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. The building was constructed in 1938 and designed by Peoria architecture firm Hewitt, Emerson & Gregg; C. Herrick Hammond served as the state's supervising architect on the project. The building's design incorporates elements of several contemporary architectural styles; it features an Art Deco octagonal clock tower and projecting pilasters, while its flat roof and concrete coursing are representative of the Art Moderne style and its steel ribbon windows are inspired by the International Style. The university used the new building to expand its physical education program into a full course of study, which included the establishment of a women's physical education program. The building was also used to host sporting events, student performances, and school dances. In the 1960s, the construction of Lantz Arena and a new classroom building for health education resulted in the relocation of many of the programs held in the building. The building was officially renamed the Florence McAfee Women's Gymnasium in 1965, after the first head of women's athletics at the university.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 9, 1995.

O'Brien Field is a 10,000-seat multi-purpose stadium in Charleston, Illinois. It is home to the Eastern Illinois University Panthers football and track and field teams. O’Brien Field is named after Maynard O'Brien who coached football and track at Eastern Illinois University. The stadium features a nine-lane track and in 2004 an artificial turf field was installed. In 2009 a state of the art scoreboard was installed on the north end of the field with a video board and new sound system. The stadium served as the summer home for the former St. Louis Cardinals football team in 1976 and 1977 and again from 1982 to 1987. The record attendance for O'Brien Field was 12,600 on November 9, 1980, vs. Northern Iowa. The all-time record for the Panthers football team at O'Brien Field is 178–95–3 as of the end of the 2019 season. The stadium also plays host to the IHSA State Finals in track and field every year.
