Big River (Rhode Island)

Nooseneck is a village in Kent County, Rhode Island, United States, in the rural town of West Greenwich. Nooseneck is located on Rhode Island Route 3 near Interstate 95. The Nooseneck River passes through the village, where Interstate 95 crosses over it.

Lake Mishnock is a residential recreational lake in West Greenwich, Kent County, Rhode Island. It lies immediately north of I-95.

The Congdon River is a river in the U.S. state of Rhode Island, in the Big River State Management Area and immediately south. It flows approximately 3 km (2 mi). There are three dams along the river's length: at Rathbon Pond, Money Swamp Pond, and at Millbrook Pond. The river's crossing at Congdon Mill Road is the former site of a grist mill (in 1778) and later a sawmill (in 1806), and is named after Joseph Congdon, the mill's owner.

West Greenwich is a town in Kent County, Rhode Island, United States. The population was 6,528 at the 2020 census. West Greenwich was named for the historic town of Greenwich, Kent, England. It was separated from East Greenwich in 1741. Students go to Exeter-West Greenwich Regional School in West Greenwich.

The Mishnock River is a river in the U.S. state of Rhode Island. It flows 3.1 miles (5.0 km). There are two dams along the river's length.

Coventry High School is a public high school located in Coventry, Rhode Island. Servicing grades Nine through Twelve, it has close to 1600 students, and is the only public high school in Coventry, Rhode Island. According to the latest report from Public School Review, the school is 40% male and 60% female. In terms of ethnicity, Coventry High School is 97% Caucasian, 1% Asian, 1% African-American, and 1% Hispanic. Coventry High School is located off of Route 3, at 40 Reservoir Road.

Kent County is a county located in the U.S. state of Rhode Island. As of the 2020 census, the population was 170,363, making it the second-most populous county in Rhode Island. The county was formed in 1750 from the southern third of Providence County. It was named after the county of Kent, England. Kent County, like other counties in Rhode Island, no longer has governmental functions (other than as court administrative and sheriff corrections boundaries). Its seat is East Greenwich. Kent County is included in the Providence-Warwick, RI-MA Metropolitan Statistical Area, which in turn constitutes a portion of the greater Boston-Worcester-Providence, MA-RI-NH-CT Combined Statistical Area.

Spring Lake is a village in the town of Coventry, Rhode Island.The Johnson family were early owners of the land in the area, and in 1818 sold the property to Ezra Ramsdell to build a warp thread mill along the Spring Lake River (Mishnock River). Mill housing was constructed along the highway from Washington Village to the Maple Root Meeting House. After the mill burned in 1830, Christopher A. Whitman acquired the land and constructed a mill known as Whitmans’ Yard, which produced shirting material. In 1852, Whitman leased the complex to Pardon Olney; it operated for another thirty years. In 1865, the Peckham family bought the mill, and ran it until it burned around 1907. Today, the area where the mill village once stood is populated with private businesses.

The Austin Farm Road Agricultural Area is a rural historic district in Exeter, Rhode Island. The district is bounded on the east by Interstate 95, on the north by the town line, on the south by Austin Farm Road, and on the west by a north-south line through Austin Farm Pond. This agricultural area is relatively little altered since the late 19th century, despite the proximity of the interstate. It includes the farm complex built up by John Austin in the 19th century, which continues to see active use, and the site of an older farm complex, reduced to just the farmhouse, which predates Austin's acquisition of the property. In addition to the farm buildings, it includes a chapel and school house built or maintained by Austin (in 1892 and 1860, respectively).The area was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
