Hakata Bay

The Battle of Kōan (弘安の役, Kōan no eki), also known as the Second Battle of Hakata Bay, was the second attempt by the Mongol-led Yuan dynasty of China to invade Japan after their failed attempt seven years earlier at the Battle of Bun'ei. In the summer of 1281, the Yuan invaded with two large armies. The Japanese defenders were aided by a major storm which sank a sizeable portion of the Yuan fleets. The invaders who reached the shore were repulsed shortly after landing. The Japanese called the opportune storm kamikaze (lit. 'divine wind'), a name later used in the Second World War for pilots who carried out aerial suicide attacks.

Sky Dream Fukuoka (Japanese: スカイドリームフクオカ) was a 120-metre-tall giant Ferris wheel in the city of Fukuoka, Japan, operating from December 2001 until September 2009. It was 120 metres (390 ft) tall, making it the tallest Ferris wheel in Japan during its years of operation. It was located in the Evergreen Marinoa (Japanese: エバーグリーンマリノア) entertainment facility adjacent to the Marinoa City Fukuoka mall, which itself features a smaller, 58-metre-tall ferris wheel. The gondolas were all air conditioned and accessible for wheelchair-users. One full rotation took approximately 20 minutes. Sky Dream Fukuoka closed on 26 September 2009. It was subsequently sold to a Taiwanese company for rebuilding at Lihpao Land in Taiwan. Dismantling work commenced in 2010, although work was disrupted in July 2011 when supports failed, causing two cranes involved in dismantling to topple over, injuring one workman and damaging four cars.

Fukuoka Tower (福岡タワー, Fukuoka Tawā) is a 234-metre (768 ft) tall tower located in the Momochihama area of Fukuoka, Japan. It is the tallest seaside tower in Japan. The highest observation deck at 123 metres has a 360° view of the surrounding area, being most visited at sunset. Fukuoka Tower was finished in 1989, taking a total of 14 months to build at a cost of ¥6 billion (roughly equivalent US$45 million in 1989). It was designed by Nikken Sekkei and constructed on a reclaimed land out of Hakata Bay.

Kyushu Asahi Broadcasting Co., Ltd. (九州朝日放送株式会社, Kyushu Asahi Hoso Kabushiki Gaisha) is a broadcasting station in Fukuoka, Japan, and it is affiliated with National Radio Network (NRN) on radio and All-Nippon News Network (ANN) on TV. With its relay transmitters in Saga, KBC functions as the default ANN affiliate for the said prefecture, as that area doesn't have an ANN affiliate of its own.

Fukuoka International School (FIS) (福岡インターナショナルスクール, Fukuoka Intānashonaru Sukūru) is a PK-12 international school in Sawara-ku, Fukuoka, Japan. It was established in 1972 since the U.S. Air Force Base School had stopped operations.

Fukuoka City Museum (福岡市博物館, Fukuoka-shi hakubutsukan) opened in Fukuoka, Japan, in 1990. The permanent exhibition, which tells the history of Fukuoka, is arranged in eleven sections, including those focussing upon the King of Na gold seal (National Treasure), the Kuroda clan, and the Hakata Gion Yamakasa.

Meinohama Station (姪浜駅, Meinohama-eki) is a railway station in Nishi-ku, Fukuoka, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. It is jointly operated by JR Kyushu and the Fukuoka City Transportation Bureau. The station symbol of the subway station is a yacht in yellow, symbolising nearby Odo yacht harbour(ja).

Nishi-ku (西区) is one of the seven wards of Fukuoka City, Japan. Meaning literally "west ward," it is bordered to the east by Sawara-ku, and to the west by Itoshima. As of 2003, it has a population of 173,813 people and an area of 83.81 km2. As of 2016, its population had increased to 206,000 people. It has recently gained additional infrastructure in the form of the Nanakuma Line, in addition to the Fukuoka City Subway and the Chikuhi Line. At the time of Fukuoka City's official designation as a City in 1972, Nishi-ku covered an larger area than it does today. On May 1, 1982, Nishi-ku was subdivided into the three smaller wards of Nishi-ku, Sawara-ku and Jōnan-ku.

Fukuoka Detention House (福岡拘置所, Fukuoka Kōchisho) is a correctional facility in Sawara-ku, Fukuoka. A part of the penal system of Japan, it is operated by the Ministry of Justice. One of Japan's seven execution chambers is in this facility.

The Fukuoka PayPay Dome (福岡ペイペイドーム, Fukuoka Peipeidōmu), officially the Fukuoka Dome (福岡ドーム, Fukuoka Dōmu) is a baseball field located in Chūō-ku, Fukuoka, Japan. Home to the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, the 40,000 seat stadium was built in 1993 and was originally named Fukuoka Dome (福岡ドーム, Fukuoka Dōmu). With a diameter of 216 meters, the Fukuoka Dome is the world's largest geodesic dome. It is Japan's first stadium built with a retractable roof, and was the only baseball stadium in Japan with one until the opening of Es Con Field Hokkaido in 2023. In 2005, Yahoo! JAPAN, one of SoftBank's subsidiaries, acquired the stadium's naming rights, and thus renamed it Fukuoka Yahoo! Japan Dome (福岡Yahoo! JAPANドーム, Fukuoka Yafū Japan Dōmu) or abbreviated as Yahoo Dome (ヤフードーム, Yafū Dōmu), In January 2013, it was renamed to Fukuoka Yafuoku! Dome (福岡ヤフオク! ドーム, Fukuoka Yafuoku Dōmu). Yafuoku is the abbreviation for Yahoo! Auctions in Japan. On October 30, 2019, it was announced that the stadium was going to be named Fukuoka PayPay Dome, in reference to the payment system PayPay owned by Softbank (50%) and Yahoo Japan (25%), from February 29, 2020. It is one of the few NPB stadiums with onsite hotels.

Muromi Station (室見駅, Muromi-eki) is a train station located in Sawara-ku, Fukuoka. The station symbol is three wavy blue lines, representing Muromi River.
