Our Lady and St Peter's Church, Bothamsall is a Grade II listed parish church in the Church of England in Bothamsall. The church is part of the Lound Hall Estate, Bothamsall. The buildings repair costs are procured by the Lord of the manor.

Walesby is a village and civil parish in Nottinghamshire, England. At the time of the 2001 census it had a population of 1,255 people, increasing slightly to 1,266 at the 2011 census. It is located 16 miles (26 km) north of Newark. The parish church of St Edmund is Perpendicular in style.The former noble proprietor being the Duke of Newcastle who was then the Earl of Clare, sold the land and manor house in the mid 1700s, now being Lound Hall and Lound Hall Estate, east of Bothamsall village. The village is famous for its forest, part of which forms a 250-acre (1.0 km2) Scout camp site. Along with one public house, the Red Lion and the Carpenters Arms, a small Italian kitchen restaurant. There is also a garage and a primary school. The village has a small park with a skate ramp and playground. The Walesby Forest Scout Camp is just outside the village. It hosts international scouting festivals amongst other events. The village and scout camp are also located by a series of streams and the villages of Milton, Kirton, Boughton (pronounced Boot'n) and the town of New Ollerton.

Bothamsall is a village and civil parish in the Bassetlaw district of Nottinghamshire, England. According to the United Kingdom Census 2001 it had a population of 185, increasing (with the inclusion of Bevercotes and Haughton) to 270 at the 2011 Census.

Bevercotes Colliery was the first fully automated mine. It went into production in July 1965. Located in Bevercotes to the north of Ollerton, the colliery was, alongside Cotgrave Colliery, one of two new collieries opened in the county of Nottinghamshire in the 1960s. The colliery was closed in 1993 and turned into a nature reserve. The mine was served by a single track, 4.5 mi (7.2 km) branch railway opened in June 1960.

Elkesley is a village in Nottinghamshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 805, increasing to 822 at the 2011 Census. It is located 6 miles south of Retford. The parish church of St Giles was built c. 1300 in Decorated style, and was partially reconstructed in 1845. There is also a pub in Elkesley named the Robin Hood and also a small shop and a primary school, which in January 2008, 82 pupils attended.

It was dedicated to All Saints or All Hallows, as confirmed in wills of parishioners from the 15th and 16th centuries. The shift to a dedication to St Giles was probably initiated at some point in the first half of the 19th century: White’s Directory cites the church as St Giles for the first time in 1844, though there are still later references to All Hallows.The building is in the decorated gothic style and made from local limestone. The church consists of a nave, north aisle, chancel, and an embattled west tower with pinnacles. Bevercotes is a hamlet and civil parish in the Bassetlaw district of Nottinghamshire, England, about six miles south of East Retford and five miles north-east of Ollerton. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 28. The population remained less than 100 at the 2011 Census and is included in the civil parish of Bothamsall.The former Bevercotes Colliery was one of the first fully automated coal mines in the country.

Kirton is a village in Nottinghamshire, England. It is located 3 miles (4.8 km) east of Ollerton. According to the United Kingdom Census 2001 it had a population of 273, reducing to 261 at the 2011 census. The parish church of Holy Trinity is 13th century church, restored in 1865 in the Victorian era. Hall Farm was built c. 1630 by William Clarkson. It is an early example of brick facing on walls of rough skerry.

Lound Hall is a country house which sits in between the villages of Bothamsall and Bevercotes, in the county of Nottinghamshire, England. The current house was built in the Georgian style in the 1930s for Sir Harald Peake, a mining company director. There has been a manor house on the site since the 1700s. The hall was used as an orthopaedic hospital during World War II, and later became a training centre for the National Coal Board as well as a mining museum. It has now reverted to private ownership.

The River Maun is a river in Nottinghamshire, England. Its source lies in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, and from there it flows north east through Mansfield (which takes its name from the river), Edwinstowe and Ollerton, these being the heart of the Sherwood Forest area. It becomes known as Whitewater near the village of Walesby and connects to the River Meden temporarily where the Robin Hood Way crosses them. They diverge, and near Markham Moor it merges again with the River Meden this time becoming the River Idle. Its main tributaries are Rainworth Water, Vicar Water and Cauldwell Water. The river has been an important source of power, from at least 1086, when there was a watermill in Mansfield. A big increase in the number of mills began in the 1780s, when the frame knitting industry was decimated by the advent of Richard Arkwright's water-powered spinning frame. William Cavendish-Bentinck, 3rd Duke of Portland, encouraged the building of textile mills to relieve unemployment and poverty. Most were converted to do "cotton doubling", and several later became hosiery mills. The conversion of watermills which had formerly ground corn to textile mills led to the building of windmills to carry on milling corn. Although water power has largely ceased, there is still an operational water-mill at Ollerton.
