Holt, Norfolk

Holt railway station was a railway station, since closed and dismantled, that served the town of Holt in Norfolk, England. It was part of the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway network, which spread over much of East Anglia, providing connections to Cromer, Norwich and Yarmouth. Closed in 1964, there are proposals to rebuild the line through the locality as part of an orbital railway scheme.

Holt Lowes is a 49.9-hectare (123-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest west of Cromer in Norfolk. It is a Nature Conservation Review site, Grade 2, and part of the Norfolk Valley Fens Special Area of Conservation.This site is mainly dry and sandy heath in the valley of the River Glaven, with a mire along a tributary which runs through the heath. Ground flora includes wood horsetail at its only known location in East Anglia.The site is open to the public.

Gresham's School is a public school (English fee-charging boarding and day school) in Holt, Norfolk, England, one of the top thirty International Baccalaureate schools in England.The school was founded in 1555 by Sir John Gresham as a free grammar school for forty boys, following King Henry VIII's dissolution of Beeston Priory. The founder left the school's endowments in the hands of the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers of the City of London, who are still the school's trustees. In the 1890s, an increase in the rental income of property in the City of London led to a major expansion of the school, which built many new buildings on land it owned on the eastern edge of Holt, including several new boarding houses as well as new teaching buildings, library and chapel. Gresham's began to admit girls in 1971 and is now fully co-educational. As well as its senior school, it operates a preparatory and a nursery and pre-prep school, the latter now in the Old School House, the historic home of the school. Altogether, the three schools teach about eight hundred children.

Farfield is one of the seven boarding houses at Gresham's, an English public school at Holt, Norfolk. Farfield is currently home to approximately fifty boys.

Hempstead Watermill is a disused watermill 1.7 miles south east of the town of Holt in the English county of Norfolk. The mill stands on the River Glaven and the lane between Holt and the village of Hempstead. The mill was built in 1830 by Richard John Gurney and was originally called Holt Watermill.

Letheringsett watermill is situated on the River Glaven in the village of Letheringsett within the English county of Norfolk. Letheringsett is in the district of North Norfolk and is 1.4 miles (2.3 km) west of the town of Holt. Letheringsett with Glandford is a civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It includes the village of Letheringsett, along with the hamlet of Glandford. The village straddles the A148 King’s Lynn to Cromer road. Letheringsett is 1.2 miles west of Holt, 32.2 west north east of King’s Lynn and 126 miles north north east of London. The nearest railway station is at Sheringham for the Bittern Line which runs between Sheringham, Cromer and Norwich. The nearest airport is Norwich International Airport.

The remains of Letheringsett Brewery Watermill are located in the centre of the village of Letheringsett in the county of Norfolk. The watermill of 1784 was housed within the maltings and brewery complex founded and run by John Brereton of Letheringsett Hall from before 1721. Much of this complex still stands on the south side of the A148 Cromer to King’s Lynn road, which bisects the village on an east–west axis, and on the west bank of the River Glaven, which bisects the village south–north. The watermill was in operation from 1784 to 1895 or 1896 for crushing malt and to power the pumps throughout the manufacturing and storage complex. It had a far more limited life as a cornmill for grinding wheat, from 1784 to about 1798, as recorded by the wife and mother of the owners, the diarist Mary Hardy. Briefly a ginger beer factory from 1896 to 1906, the complex then ceased all manufacturing. It was converted to housing 2013–15.

Holt railway station, opened in 1987, is the current terminus of the North Norfolk Railway and is a new-build station half a mile south of the proposed, but never built, Blakeney branch junction. The station building once belonged to Stalham railway station, but was moved and reconstructed on site. The current station is located just under a mile away from the site of the original Holt railway station, which had been closed in 1964 by British Railways.

Hunworth is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Stody, in the North Norfolk district, in the county of Norfolk, England. The village is 11.5 miles (18.5 km) east-north-east of the town of Fakenham, 12.6 miles (20.3 km) west-south-west of Cromer and 125 miles (201 km) north-north-east of London. The nearest town is Holt which lies 3.4 miles (5.5 km) north of the village. The nearest railway station is at Sheringham for the Bittern Line which runs between Sheringham, Cromer and Norwich. The nearest airport is Norwich International Airport. The village is situated on the road between Holt and Briston. In 1931 the parish had a population of 173.

St Lawrence Parish Church is a Grade II* listed building in the village of Hunworth in Norfolk, England. The church is dedicated to Saint Lawrence who was martyred in 258 AD.

Home Place, also called Voewood, is an Arts and Crafts style house in High Kelling, near Holt, Norfolk, England, designed (1903–5) by Edward Schroeder Prior. It is a Grade II* listed building. The gardens, also designed by Prior, are Grade II* listed in the National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.Home Place is perhaps one of the greatest achievements of house design of the Arts and Crafts movement. More than almost any other building of the period the house fulfils the ideals for architecture developed by John Ruskin and William Morris. The design of Home Place saw Prior return to and extend further the aspects of design that had preoccupied him in The Barn, Exmouth. In the designing and building of Home Place many of his philosophical ideas found physical expression. Its design and construction were characterised by the use of radical planning and forms, innovative technologies, such as the use of reinforced concrete, extensive external decoration, a distinct building philosophy involving craftsmanship and the use of quality local materials and the integration of the building and its interiors with the garden and its surroundings.
