Barberton High School (Ohio)

Barberton was a train station along the Erie Railroad main line in the city of Barberton, Summit County, Ohio, United States. Located 612.8 miles (986.2 km) from Hoboken Terminal on the Kent Division of the main line, the station first saw service in 1890 while under the ownership of the New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio Railroad, a subsidiary of the Erie Railroad, to help bring people to the new community. Passenger service was terminated on August 1, 1965, with the cancellation of the Atlantic Express (eastbound) Pacific Express (westbound), and multi-day trains from Hoboken to Dearborn Station in Chicago, Illinois. Located at 356 4th Street NW, the city of Barberton was a big part of the large rubber manufacturing area in and around nearby Akron. The depot was constructed by Ohio Columbus Barber, the founder of the community which forked from New Portage Township and was designated a Type IV structure by the Erie Railroad in the Valuation Report to the Interstate Commerce Commission. The depot has also been an important stop for several Presidents of the United States, including two campaign stops for Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft, as well as the funeral train for Warren G. Harding.

Barberton is a city in Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population was 25,191 at the 2020 census. Located directly southwest of Akron, it is a suburb of the Akron metropolitan area.

Lake Anna Park is a 21-acre (85,000 m2) park around a spring-fed, 10-acre (40,000 m2) lake, and is located in the center of downtown Barberton, Ohio. Lake Anna was formed by natural geology, left after the last ice age. It would have long been a resource for varying cultures of indigenous peoples in the area. Ohio Columbus Barber, industrialist and founder of Barberton in 1894, named the lake after his only daughter Anna Laura Barber.

The O. C. Barber Piggery, built in 1912, is a historic farm building located at 248 Robinson Avenue on the Anna-Dean Farm in Barberton, Ohio. It was built by American businessman and industrialist Ohio Columbus Barber, the developer of both Barberton, which he envisioned as a planned industrial community, and the nearby 3,500-acre (14 km2) Anna-Dean Farm, which he envisioned as a prototype for modern agricultural enterprise. Barber was called America's Match King because of his controlling interest in the Diamond Match Company.The 300-foot-long (91 m) brick and block Piggery building, painted patriotic red, white and blue, was only used to house swine until 1915, when cholera was detected in the herd, which was then destroyed. After being thoroughly disinfected with bleach, the building was used to house sheep for two years, before they were replaced by calves because Barber was upset by the fact that the sheep destroyed the pastures by their grazing practices. The building was renamed the Calf Barn.On May 22, 1973, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Barber was called America's Match King because of his controlling interest in the Diamond Match Company.It incorporated all the latest U.S. government requirements for milk production barns and upon completion was called the largest barn in the world by the Akron Beacon Journal, but it ended up being the smallest cow barn on the Anna-Dean Farm.On February 28, 1973, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Barber was called America's Match King because of his controlling interest in the Diamond Match Company.The Creamery was used to process and bottle the milk produced on the Anna-Dean Farm and to make ice cream, all of which was sold under the Anna Dean Farm brand name. Up to 10,000 pounds of milk were processed per day.On May 22, 1973, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Rolling Acres Mall was a shopping mall located in the Rolling Acres area of Akron, Ohio, United States. Built in 1975, it originally included approximately 21 stores, with Sears as the main anchor store. Later expansions added several more stores including anchor stores JCPenney, Montgomery Ward, and O'Neil's, along with a movie theater and food court. Montgomery Ward was converted to Higbee's in 1986, and then to Dillard's in 1992, while O'Neil's became May Company Ohio, Kaufmann's, and then finally Macy's. The fifth anchor store was Target, added in 1995. At its peak, the mall had over 150 stores. It underwent a sharp decline in tenancy throughout the 1990s and into the first decade of the 21st century, resulting in the relocation of Target and closure of Dillard's. Macy's and the mall itself both shuttered in 2008, although Sears remained operational until 2011, and JCPenney as an outlet store until 2013. Rolling Acres Mall was publicized after its closure as an example of a dead mall, and non-retail ventures operated out of the former locations of Target, Sears, and Dillard's. The mall was finally demolished in stages between 2017 and 2019, with Amazon building a distribution facility on the former site soon after.

Rolling Acres is a former shopping district in Akron, Ohio, surrounding the now-demolished Rolling Acres Mall. Planning for the area began in 1960s with Forest City Enterprises, a Cleveland real estate company and the powerful Buchholzer family, whose previous endeavors involved financing much of the Chapel Hill Mall area. Despite warnings by civic leaders and former Mayor Edward O. Erickson that the addition of a third mall in the Akron area would harm downtown department stores, the Rolling Acres area was born with Rolling Acres Mall serving as its anchor. Pulling from a diverse population of blue collar workers in Barberton, Ohio and Kenmore, and inner city neighborhoods such as West Akron and Lane-Wooster, the Rolling Acres shopping district blossomed. At its peak it was the most visited mall in Northeast Ohio. Today, Rolling Acres stands as a skeleton of what it once was, mirroring many other parts of the Midwest that have suffered from stagnant economic conditions, saturated markets, and unprofitable foot traffic. The shopping district is located in the City of Akron proper, and encompasses most of the area. It had a number of large big box retailers including: Handy Andy Home Improvement Center (formerly Forest City) – closed 1996 Ames (formerly Hills & Gold Circle) - closed 2002 Apples Grocery Store- Closed 2000 Pet Supplies Plus – closed 2002 Fretter – defunct 1996 Toys "R" Us – closed 2006 Kids "R" Us – site closed Officemax – closed 2003 Coconuts Music – site closed Marc's (former Children's Palace) – Closed 2004Several of the buildings have been condemned, while other are taking transient uses such as fronts for flea markets, and mattress liquidators. The Target closed in February 2006, with a new store being opened in the western suburb of Wadsworth, Ohio. Toys R’ Us closed as part of a larger consolidation plan by its new owners. The city of Akron no longer views the area as viable for retail. As Rolling Acres got smaller, the nearby Montrose area got larger, and now has many of its former anchors.

Barber was called America's Match King because of his controlling interest in the Diamond Match Company.The Machine Barn was the service and storage place for all tractors and other equipment on the Anna-Dean Farm. It also housed the blacksmith shop.On October 9, 1974, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Barber was called America's Match King because of his controlling interest in the Diamond Match Company.It is one of the smallest barns on the Anna-Dean Farm and was first called Bull Barn No 2 and used to house bulls until 1913, when it was renamed the Colt Barn and used to house colts and mares in foal.On October 9, 1974, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
