Yagyū, Nara

Yagyū Castle (柳生城, Yagyū-jō) is the remains of a castle structure in Nara, Nara Prefecture. Yagyū castle was constructed by the Yagyū clan in the Nanboku-chō period and became a home castle of the Yagyū clan. In 1544, the castle was attacked by Tsutsui Junkei's force and defeated. Later, Yagyū clan was approved as the main domain of Yagyū in Yamato by Oda Nobunaga. In 1590, Toyotomi Hideyoshi seized the territories of the Yagyū clan. In the Battle of Sekigahara, Yagyū clan joined the West squad and after the battle Yagyū clan was given their old territory by Tokugawa Ieyasu. In 1643, Yagyū Munenori built clan's new residence called Yagyū Jinya near the castle. Hotoku-ji Temple and Masaki school of swordplay are on site.

The 1331 siege of Kasagi was among the first battles of the Genkō War, which brought an end to Japan's Kamakura period. Emperor Go-Daigo, who had been plotting against the shogunate and the Hōjō clan regents, had hidden the Japanese imperial regalia in Kasagi-dera, a fortified Buddhist temple, atop Kasagiyama, just outside Kyoto, and was secretly raising an army from there. The temple was raided in the night by Hōjō forces under Suyama Yoshitaka and Komiyama Jirō, who climbed the cliffs surrounding the fortress, and set it aflame. The Emperor, however, escaped and fled. The temple was rebuilt in 1381, and destroyed by fire again less than twenty years later. Today, only a few buildings remain.

Mount Kasagi (笠置山, Kasagi-yama) is a 289-meter mountain located in the town of Kasagi, Soraku District, Kyoto Prefecture in the Kansai area of Japan. The mountain is known for its many oddly shaped rocks and as a battlefield during the wars of the Kenmu Restoration at the end of the Kamakura period. The mountain has been protected from 1932 as a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty and National Historic Site. The mountain is also located within the borders of the Kasagiyama Prefectural Natural Park.

Kasagiyama Prefectural Natural Park (府立笠置山自然公園, Furitsu Kasagiyama shizen kōen) is a Prefectural Natural Park in the south of Kyōto Prefecture, Japan. Established in 1964, the park is within the municipality of Kasagi. Mount Kasagi (笠置山), associated with Emperor Go-Daigo and events chronicled in the Taiheiki, is a designated Historic Site and Place of Scenic Beauty.

Kasagi (笠置町, Kasagi-chō) is a town in Sōraku District, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. As of 1 April 2024, it has a population of 1,108 in 579 households and a population density of 47 persons per km2. The total area of the town is 23.52 square kilometres (9.08 sq mi). It has the smallest population of any municipality in Kyoto.

Kasagi Station (笠置駅, Kasagi-eki) is a passenger railway station of West Japan Railway Company (JR-West) located in the town of Kasagi, Kyoto, Japan. The station is outside of the ICOCA service area, so no IC cards can be used to pay fares.

Sōraku (相楽郡, Sōraku-gun) is a district in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. As of 2007, the district had an estimated population of 44,982 and a density of 252.27 persons per km2. The total area is 178.31 km2.

Nunome Dam is a gravity dam located in Nara prefecture in Japan. The dam is used for flood control and water supply. The catchment area of the dam is 75 km2. The dam impounds about 95 ha of land when full and can store 17300 thousand cubic meters of water. The construction of the dam was started in 1975 and completed in 1991.

Enjō-ji (円成寺) is a Shingon temple in the northeast of Nara, Japan. A number of its buildings and images have been designated National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties, and its late-Heian period gardens are a Place of Scenic Beauty.

Minamiyamashiro (南山城村, Minamiyamashiro-mura) is a village located in Sōraku District, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. As of 1 July 2023 the village has an estimated population of 2,472 in 1219 households and a population density of 39 persons per km2. The total area of the village is 64.11 square kilometres (24.75 sq mi).
