Holmen (station)

The Embassy of the United States in Oslo is the diplomatic representation of the federal government of the United States to the Kingdom of Norway. A new embassy was put into service in May 2017. The current Embassy is located in Morgedalsvegen 36, near the Makrellbekken Metro Station, in one of the city's western suburbs. Visitors to the embassy are encouraged to use public transport.

Njårdhallen is an indoor sports arena located in Vestre Aker, Oslo, Norway. It was opened in 1960, and designed by Frode Rinnan. It is mainly used by the sports club Njård for indoor sports such as basketball and handball. Formerly, mainly in the 1960s and 1970s, it was used for large meetings and rock concerts. It has also been used as a professional boxing venue.

Makrellbekken is a rapid transit station of the Oslo Metro's Røa Line (Line 2). It is situated in the neighborhood of Makrellbekken in the Vestre Aker borough of Oslo, Norway. Located 5.4 kilometers (3.4 mi) from Stortinget, the station is served by Line 2 of the metro, normally with a fifteen-minute headway. Travel time to Stortinget is 10 minutes. The station opened on 24 January 1935 as part of the extension of the Røa Line to Røa. At Makrellbekken the Røa Line passes under Sørkedalsveien, which it has followed since Volvat. The station received a major upgrade in 1995, in which the station was lowered below the road, replacing a level crossing.

Makrellbekken is a neighbourhood in the Oslo borough of Vestre Aker in Norway, bordering the borough of Ullern. It is located between Smestad and Holmen. The main road is Sørkedalsveien, a part of Norwegian National Road 168. The place is served by the Røa Line (Line 2) of Oslo Metro.

Oslo Waldorf School (Norwegian: Rudolf Steinerskolen i Oslo) is a Waldorf school located in the Vestre Holmen area in the Vestre Aker district of West End Oslo, Norway. It is an integrated primary, middle and high school with around 550 pupils. Founded in 1926, it is one of the oldest Waldorf schools worldwide. The school is an independent non-profit foundation governed by a board consisting of representatives of the teachers and parents, and it is a member of the Norwegian Association of Waldorf Schools.

Huseby Leir is the base of the Norwegian Hans Majestet Kongens Garde (HMKG) (lit., His Majesty The King's Guard). Huseby Leir is located on the old Oslo farm, Nordre Huseby gård, which was acquired by the Norwegian government in the late 19th century. It is a modern base, but has decayed because of construction errors which led to mold and damp damage in walls and roofs. From 2002 to 2005 the base underwent a total renovation. Huseby Leir is a very special base in military terms, since it is constructed in two levels. Offices and barracks are located on ground level. The lower "0-level" features the drill yard for all companies, a crew dining hall, an armoury, an indoor shooting range, a sport hall, a clothes depot, a sew parlour, a gas station, parking places for military vehicles, and a number of other areas serving the needs for the battalion. Parts of the "0-level" has a photography restriction and the layout of some areas of the structure is classified, yet some parts of the "0-level" can be seen from ground level.

Hans Majestet Kongens Garde (HMKG) (lit., His Majesty The King's Guard; the Royal Guards) is a battalion of the Norwegian Army. The battalion has two main roles; it serves as the Norwegian King's bodyguards, guarding the royal residences (the Royal Palace in Oslo, Bygdøy Kongsgård and Skaugum) and Akershus Fortress in Oslo, and is also the main infantry unit responsible for the defence of Oslo. The HMKG is located in Huseby leir in Oslo. Huseby leir is located on the old Oslo farm Nordre Huseby gård (Northern Huseby farm), which was acquired by the Norwegian government in the late 19th century.

Holmen is a neighbourhood in Oslo and forms part of the district of Vestre Aker. It is situated between Hovseter in the west and Slemdal in the east, Holmenkollen in the north and Makrellbekken in the south. The name is derived from the Holmen farms. Vestre Holmen is located west of Holmenkollveien, a secondary road in Norway's road network, extends along Arnebråtveien approximately in the north–south direction and west towards the Røa Line of Oslo Metro. Here are the housing estates of Holmenhaugen and Holmengrenda with terraced houses and detached houses. The building company Holmenbygg AS has erected 13 four-story apartment blocks in Lybekkveien, Stasjonsveien, and Holmengrenda streets. The housing estate of the Royal Norwegian Air Force, also called Snippen, is located further up Stasjonsveien, along Landingsveien, in Luftfartsveien, Flyveien, and Pilotveien. It was designed by the architect Erling Viksjø and was built from 1948 to 1952. The housing company was formed by officers of the Norwegian air force and navy. In 1953 the housing estate was awarded Sundts premie for good architecture. It is included in the Golden list of the Oslo City Antiquarian, the manager of the city's cultural heritage. Gressbanen, the stadium of the sports club IF Ready, is located at Holmen. Holmen station was opened on 24 January 1935 together with the Røa Line.

Hovseter is a neighbourhood of Oslo, Norway, that comes under Vestre Aker kommune and lies between Røa and Holmen. Hovseter was originally a place under Hoff farm. The site was mainly developed in the 1970s as a project associated experimental political sociology and was listed under the then Social Democratic government. The buildings consist largely of blocks of flats in the low / medium altitude by Norwegian standards. Some of the buildings are older, however, and originates from the 1950s. Various areas outside Hovseter also stems from the reconstruction period after the Second World War in Norway and holds a joint architecture for homes on the west side of Oslo, in the form of house or villa-standard. Roads Old Hovsetervei, Henry's way, way Jeppes, Pernille way Arnebråtveien, Anchor Road, Røaknekken and Røahagan is built in the same period and hence holds great architectural similarities of their distinctive post-war expressed through architecture and materials.

Husebybakken was a metro station on the Kolsås Line of the Oslo Metro. Serving the neighborhood of Montebello in Oslo, Norway, it opened in 1942, when the connection line between Sørbyhaugen and Jar was opened. It was closed on 19 June 1961, but reopened from 31 July 2006 to 31 May 2008, when the rest of the Kolsås Line was being renovated. While in use, it served as the terminal station of the Kolsås Line, and for Line 6 of the metro. The station was demolished in 2008.

Kastellbakken (later renamed into Husebybakken) is an abandoned, but first modern ski jumping hill in history, opened in 1879. It was located at Ullern in Oslo, Norway. It was the venue of Husebyrennet, Norway's and the world's most prestigious Nordic skiing tournament between 1879 and 1891, due to lack of snow no events in 1880 and 1882.

Gressbanen or Vestre Holmen is a stadium located at Holmen in Oslo, Norway. During summer it has artificial turf and is used for association football, while during winter it has artificial ice and fields bandy. The complex also contains a smaller training field with gravel during summer and natural ice during winter. Gressbanen is the home venue of IF Ready, whose bandy team plays in the Norwegian Bandy Premier League and who fields 35 recreational football teams. The stadium was built as a response to the need for a grass pitch for the Norway national football team, as well as to serve as a home to Ready and Mercantile SFK. It opened on 1 September 1918 as the second grass pitch in Norway and the first in Oslo. As such it replaced Frogner Stadion as the home of the national team, for which it was home to seventeen matches. The national team moved to Ullevaal Stadion in 1927. Gressbanen also featured two Norwegian Football Cup Final, in 1920 and 1921. The pitch has been iced and used for bandy since 1935. Mercantile remained a tenant until 1947, when it merged with SFK Trygg. Gressbanen received artificial turf in 2001 and artificial ice in 2004.
