San Giovanni Evangelista, Venice

The Scuola Grande di San Giovanni Evangelista is a confraternity building located in the San Polo sestiere of the Italian city of Venice. Founded in the 13th century by a group of flagellants it was later to become one of the five Scuole Grandi of Venice. These organisations provided a variety of charitable functions in the city as well as becoming patrons of the arts. The Scuola Grande di San Giovanni Evangelista is notable for housing a relic of the true cross and for the series of paintings it commissioned from a number of famous Venetian artists depicting Miracles of the Holy Cross. No longer in the school, these came into public ownership during the Napoleonic era and are now housed in the Gallerie dell'Accademia. The scuola is open to visitors on a limited number of days, detailed on the official website.

The Church of Saint Roch (Italian: Chiesa di San Rocco) is a Roman Catholic church dedicated to Saint Roch in Venice, northern Italy. It was built between 1489 and 1508 by Bartolomeo Bon the Younger, but was substantially altered in 1725. The façade dates from 1765 to 1771, and was designed by Bernardino Maccarucci. The church is one of the Plague-churches built in Venice.St. Roch, whose relics rest in the church after their transfer from Voghera (trad. Montpellier), was declared a patron saint of the city in 1576. Every year, on his feast day (16 August), the Doge made a pilgrimage to the church. Near the church is the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, noted for its numerous Tintoretto paintings. It was founded in the 15th century as a confraternity to assist the citizens in time of plague.

The Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, usually just called the Frari, is a church located in the Campo dei Frari at the heart of the San Polo district of Venice, Italy. The largest church in the city, it has the status of a minor basilica. The church is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. The imposing edifice is built of brick, and is one of the city's three notable churches still mostly retaining their Venetian Gothic appearance. In common with many Franciscan churches, the exterior is rather plain, even on the front facade. The exterior also features a bell tower that was fixed in the early 2000s after going through structural problems. The interior is notable for many very grand wall monuments to distinguished Venetians buried in the church, including a number of Doges and the painter Titian. Many of these are important works in the history of Venetian sculpture, and the many paintings include two large and important altarpieces by Titian, the Assumption of the Virgin on the high altar and the Pesaro Madonna. It also contains the only rood screen still in place in Venice.

The Chiesa di San Giacomo dall'Orio (Venetian: Céxa de San Giacomo de l’Orio) (or San Giacomo Apostolo - Saint James the Apostle) is a church located in the sestiere (quarter) of Santa Croce in Venice, northern Italy. The origin of the church's name is unknown. Possibilities include being named after a laurel (lauro) that once stood nearby, a version of dal Rio ("of the river"), or once standing on an area of dried-up swamp (luprio). It was founded in the 9th century and rebuilt in 1225. The campanile dates from this period. There have been a number of rebuildings since that time (including a major renovation in 1532) and the ship's keel roof dates from the 14th century. Two of the columns were brought back from the Fourth Crusade, after the sacking of Constantinople. San Giacomo dall'Orio is a parish church of the Vicariate of San Polo-Santa Croce-Dorsoduro. The other churches in the parish are the churches of San Stae and San Zan Degolà. San Giacomo dell'Orio was the parish church of the painter Giambattista Pittoni who was buried there in 1767.

San Tomà (San Toma) is a church which is located in the sestiere of San Polo in Venice, Italy. It stands opposite the Scoletta dei Calegheri. The church is named after San Tommaso Apostolo (Saint Thomas the Apostle). A church on the site dates back to the tenth century, the present orientation was set in 1395, and the exterior and much of the interior decorations are due to reconstructions in the 16th and 17th centuries. For example, The Baroque architecture layout we see today was completed in 1652 by Giuseppe Sardi, using a design originally by Baldassare Longhena. The church was reinforced and the facade decorated with two statues in 1742 by Francesco Bognolo. Presently, the church is used for practice of Roman Catholic, Neocatechumenal Way services and functions. Few of the movable interior decorations remain. The main altar once had statues of Saints Thomas and Peter (1616) sculpted in marble by Girolamo Campagna. It once had two altarpieces by Palma Vecchio: a Madonna and Child with St Francis and John the Baptist and a St Mark and St. Aniano. It also had a main altarpiece depicting Crucifixion Scene by Andrea Vicentino, who also had a number of other works inside the church. Frescoed on the walls of the nave and still extant is a depiction of the Martyrdom of St Thomas by Jacopo Guarana and an altarpiece of the Incredulity of St Thomas by Antonio Zanchi remains. High on an outside wall, is the sarcophagus of Giovanni Priuli, a 14th-century war hero and senator. He lies with his feet resting on a small dog. On the left side above a portal, is a 15th-century relief of the Madonna della Misericordia (Our Lady of Mercy).

The House of Carlo Goldoni, or in Italian, Casa di Carlo Goldoni is writer's house museum located in a small palace or palazzetto, that served as the residence of the Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni. Located in San Polo, Venice, it is now a museum and library of theater studies.

The Chiesa di San Pantaleone Martire, known as San Pantalon in the Venetian dialect, is a church in the Dorsoduro sestiere of Venice, Italy. It is located on the Campo San Pantalon (square), and is dedicated to Saint Pantaleon. The 17th-century Chiesa di San Pantalon is a parish church of the Vicariate of San Polo-Santa Croce-Dorsoduro.

San Simeone Profeta, also known as San Simeone Grande is a church in the sestiere of Santa Croce in Venice, Italy. The adjective Grande distinguishes this church from the San Simeone Piccolo, which was smaller in size until its 18th-century reconstruction. The near palaces are Palazzo Gradenigo and Palazzo Soranzo Cappello.

Palazzo Balbi is a palace on the Canal Grande, Venice, northern Italy. It is included in the sestiere (quarter) of Dorsoduro, to the right of Ca' Foscari. Currently it is the seat of the President of the Veneto region and of the regional council.It was built from 1582, under design by Alessandro Vittoria as the residence of the Venetian patrician family of the Balbi. In the 19th century it was acquired by Michelangelo Guggenheim and later by the Adriatic Electric Society. It became a property of the Veneto region in 1971.
