Kinrooi (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈkɪnroːi]; Limburgish: Kinder) is a municipality in the Belgian province of Limburg, between Maaseik and Bree. On January 1, 2006, Kinrooi had a total population of 11,978. The total area is 54.76 km2, which gives a population density of 219 inhabitants per km2. Kinrooi was formed on September 18, 1971, when the four municipalities Kinrooi, Kessenich, Geistingen-Ophoven and Molenbeersel were fused. There have been three mayors. The current mayor is Jo Brouns.

Haler (formerly known as Haler-Uffelse) is a village in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is a part of the municipality of Leudal and lies about 9 km southeast of Weert. The village was first mentioned in 1244 as Harle, and is a combination of "sandy ridge" and "open forest". Haler was home to 290 people in 1840. In 1952, a church was built.

The Opglabbeek Formation is a geologic formation in the subsurface of the eastern part of Belgian Limburg. The heterogeneous formation consists of clay and sand that was deposited lagoonally and fluvially during the early Selandian (Middle Paleocene, about 60 million years old). The formation is named after the town of Opglabbeek in Limburg.The Opglabbeek Formation is subdivided into two members: the Opoeteren Member (red clay with layers of lignite) and the Eisden Member (fine sand with crags).The Opglabbeek Formation's thickness ranges between 25 metres (82 ft) and 60 metres (200 ft), reaching its greatest thickness as it abuts the Roer Valley Graben. It lies stratigraphically on top of the Houthem Formation (early Paleocene calcareous sandstone). It is the lateral equivalent of the Hainin Formation. On top of it lies the Heers Formation (Middle Paleocene sands and marls). The Opglabbeek Formation is part of the Hesbaye Group and can be correlated with parts of the Landen Formation of adjacent areas in the southern Netherlands.

Thorn (Dutch: [tɔr(ə)n] ; Limburgish: Toear or Thoear) is a village in the municipality of Maasgouw, in the Dutch province of Limburg. It lies on the rivers Meuse and Witbeek. It is known as 'the white village' for its white-washed brick houses in the centre of town. It used to be part of the Imperial Abbey of Thorn.

Maaseik (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈmaːsɛi̯k]; Limburgish: Mezeik) is a city and municipality in the Belgian province of Limburg. Both in size (close to 77 km2) and in population (approx. 25,000 inhabitants, of whom some 3,000 non-Belgian), it is the 8th largest municipality in Limburg. The town is the seat of the administrative arrondissement of Maaseik (kieskanton). Internationally, Maaseik is known as the assumed birthplace of the famous Flemish painters Jan and Hubert van Eyck.

Aldeneik, founded in 730, is a suburb of the Belgian town of Maaseik. It lies on the left bank of the river Meuse, close to the border with the Netherlands, close to where the Bosbeek runs off it. According to legend it sprung up around a monastery set up by the Frankish sisters Herlindis and Relindis, who wrote the Gospel book known as the Codex Eyckensis, still in Maaseik. The settlement contains the Romanesque and Gothic Sint-Annakerk.
