Frindsbury Extra

Strood Rural District was a rural district in the county of Kent, England. It was subject to boundary reforms in 1934 and 1935. It consisted of the following civil parishes: Allhallows (1935–1974; gained from Hoo Rural District) Chalk (1894–1935; abolished and transferred to the Municipal Borough of Gravesend) Cliffe Cobham Cooling (1935–1974; gained from Hoo Rural District) Cuxton Denton (1894–1935; abolished and transferred to the Municipal Borough of Gravesend) Frindsbury Extra (part transferred to the City of Rochester in 1934) Halling Higham High Halstow (1935–1974; gained from Hoo Rural District) Hoo St Werburgh (1935–1974; gained from Hoo Rural District) Ifield (1894–1935; abolished and split between Cobham and the Municipal Borough of Gravesend) Isle of Grain (1935–1974; gained from Hoo Rural District) Luddesdown Meopham Nurstead Shorne St Mary Hoo (1935–1974; gained from Hoo Rural District) Stoke (1935–1974; gained from Hoo Rural District) Strood Extra (1894–1934; abolished and split between Cuxton and the City of Rochester)On 1 April 1974 the district was abolished and split between the new districts of Medway and Gravesham.

All Saints, Frindsbury, is a parish church serving the combined parish of Frindsbury with Upnor and Chattenden. The church dates from 1075 and lies in the north-west corner of the Medway Towns, historically part of Kent, England. It is a Grade II* listed building, National Heritage List number 1107886.

Frindsbury is part of the Medway Towns conurbation in Kent, southern England. It lies on the opposite side of the River Medway to Rochester, and at various times in its history has been considered fully or partially part of the City of Rochester. Frindsbury today is part of the town of Strood and covers the most northern part of the town. Frindsbury refers to both a parish and a manor. Within the civil parish of Frindsbury Extra are the villages of Frindsbury, Wainscott, and Upnor. Frindsbury was also the name given to an electoral ward in the City of Rochester that straddled the parishes of Frindsbury and Strood.

The Royal Oak is a Grade II-listed house (formerly a public house, or "pub") in Frindsbury, a Medway town in Kent, United Kingdom. The building dates from the late 17th century and it was used as a public house since before 1754. It is one of a few pre-Victorian buildings on Cooling Road in Frindsbury and one of the last remaining coach houses in the area. The two-storey timber-framed building was remodelled throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, with extensions in the 19th and 20th centuries, while the pre-1840 parts of the building remain intact to the present day. The pub was sold by Enterprise Inns to a property developer in 2015 who closed the pub and proposed demolition. The "Save The Royal Oak, Frindsbury" campaign opposed its demolition, and the pub was subsequently registered as an asset of community value by Medway Council and as a Grade II listed building by Historic England in 2016. In early 2017, the campaign was seeking funding to try and to buy the pub to reopen it for the community; the developer was subsequently granted planning permission in June 2017 to convert the building into residential use. It was subsequently converted to a house, with additional housing built next door.

Rochester and Strood is a constituency in Kent represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2015 by Kelly Tolhurst, a Conservative. Since 2022, she has served as Government Deputy Chief Whip and Treasurer of the Household.

Strood (1st) (locally known as and marked on old maps as The Old Terminus) was a terminus of the South Eastern Railway located in Strood and serving also the towns of Chatham and Rochester. It closed for passengers in 1856 when the present Strood station was opened. The site was then used as a sidings yard until around 1990. It is now occupied by housing development and industrial units.

Strood railway station serves the town of Strood in Medway, England. It is on the North Kent Line and is also a terminus of the Medway Valley Line. It is 31 miles 11 chains (50.1 km) down the line from London Charing Cross. Train services are operated by Southeastern and Thameslink.

Submarine U-475 Black Widow was a Soviet Navy submarine of the Cold war period, which is now in private hands. It is currently moored at Strood, on the River Medway, in South-East England.

Wainscott is a small village in Rochester, in Kent, England. It is in the civil parish of Frindsbury Extra, in the Medway Unitary Authority, that is Medway Council. By 1950 it had been absorbed into the neighbouring residential areas of Strood. Wainscott itself is located immediately next to Frindsbury, and is surrounded by agricultural land and ancient woodlands. It is speculated that the name is derived from the OE meaning Wagonner Cot or Wagon Shed.

Rochester Bridge railway station served Rochester and Strood in Kent, England. It was opened as Strood by the London, Chatham and Dover Railway in 1860. After several name changes and the merger of the LC&DR into the South Eastern and Chatham Railway, it closed as Rochester Bridge in 1917. It lay derelict until it was demolished in the late 1960s in preparation for widening of the A2 road, which opened in 1970, its bridge of the River Medway using the piers of the southern span of the railway bridge.

Rochester-upon-Medway was a local government district in north Kent, England from 1974 to 1998. It covered Rochester, Chatham, Luton, Lordswood, Walderslade, Strood and the Hoo Peninsula.The district was formed as the District of Medway under the Local Government Act 1972 on 1 April 1974, as a merger of the municipal borough and city of Rochester, the borough of Chatham and most of Strood Rural District. The district council was granted a charter entitling it to be known as the Borough of Medway, and preserving the mayoralties of Rochester and Chatham.

Temple School was a boys secondary modern in Strood, in England. It closed in 2009 along with Chapter Girls School when Strood Academy was opened.
