Abshoven (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɑpsˌɦoː.və(n)]; Limburgish: Abshaove) is a hamlet in the municipality of Sittard-Geleen in the province of Limburg in the Netherlands. It is located to the south of Munstergeleen and to the east of Geleen. The hamlet has approximately forty houses and is located on the Abshoven and Beekstraat roads. The hamlet is dominated by the remains of the Abshoven monastery.

It was formed in 2001 from the former municipalities Sittard, Geleen and Born. The combined municipality has approximately 92,518 inhabitants (March 2019) and is thus the second most populated municipality in Limburg (after Maastricht with 125,000 inhabitants). Since February 2020, the city has been governed by a coalition of CDA (Christian Democrats), GroenLinks (Green) and the local parties GOB and Stadspartij.The highway connecting the centres of Sittard and Geleen, the Rijkswegboulevard, has been rebuilt to be a main route for cycling and walking. The cycling and walking provision is both generous and continuous. Side road junctions, or crossroads, are made 'subordinate'. The carriageways have been narrowed to one 3m lane in each direction. Parking places have been made, in small groups, at the side of the carriageways. These are made to be 'not easy to use for larger vehicles' and so the road centre is marked as a place for delivery vehicles to stop. Sittard is a railway station located in Sittard, Netherlands. The station was opened in 1862 and is located on the Maastricht–Venlo railway and the Sittard–Herzogenrath railway. The Fortuna Sittard Stadion (Dutch pronunciation: [fɔrˌtynaː ˈsɪtɑrt ˌstaːdijɔn]) is a 12,500-capacity multi-use stadium on the Milaanstraat, Sittard, Netherlands. Currently used mostly for football matches, it is the home stadium of Fortuna Sittard. Built on the site of an industrial estate in 1999, it replaced Fortuna Sittard's former stadium, De Baandert. There is a multi-storey car park with 800 spaces under the stadium and two parking spaces in the immediate vicinity. In 2013, they began to expand the stadion with an extra sports centrum next to it, a new hotel, a Aldi-Nord discount supermarket in the stadium and a whole new look.

Schinnen (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈsxɪnə(n)] ; Limburgish: Sjènne [ˈʃɛnə]) is a village and a former municipality in the province of Limburg, the Netherlands. It is home to US Army Garrison Schinnen, a support base for US personnel assigned to nearby Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum. It is also the location of Alfa Brewery, the only brewery in the Netherlands that uses an officially certified underground spring. In 2019, it merged with Nuth and Onderbanken to form Beekdaelen.

De Baandert was a multi-use stadium in Sittard-Geleen, Netherlands. Opened in 1964 it was used mostly for football matches and hosted the home matches of Fortuna Sittard. The stadium was able to hold 22,000 people. It was closed in 1999 when Fortuna Sittard Stadion opened. The stadium hosted one international match of the Netherlands national football team: a friendly played on May 27, 1992, against Austria (3-2). The stadium also hosted the 1980 World Championships in Athletics featuring two events not included in the Summer Olympics 1980: the women's 400 metres hurdles and the women's 3000 metres run.

Geleen (Dutch pronunciation: [ɣəˈleːn]; Limburgish: Gelaen [ɣəˈlɛːn]) is a city in the southern part of the province of Limburg in the Netherlands. With 31,670 inhabitants in 2020, it is part of the municipality of Sittard-Geleen. Geleen is situated along the river Geleenbeek, a right tributary to the river Meuse. The Latin name for Geleenbeek is Glana, meaning "clear river". The town centre is situated at about 60 m above sea level.

Broeksittard (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈbrukˌsɪtɑrt]; Limburgish: Broukzittert [ˈbʀɔwkˌsɪtəʀt]) is a former village in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is now a neighbourhood of the town Sittard, and part of the municipality of Sittard-Geleen. It has partly kept its village character. Broeksittard was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1942, when it was merged with Sittard by the German occupier.From 24 March to 28 March 1543 Broeksittard was almost completely destroyed during the battle for the Kemperkoul. This battle was fought between Duke Wilhelm of Jülich-Cleves-Berg and Emperor Charles V. The battle was won by Wilhelm and left over 4000 soldiers and 900 horses dead. Infuriated by his loss Charles gave permission to all his remaining soldiers to plunder the area resulting in mass rapes, murder, theft and devastation in the rest of the Gulik country.
