Regents Park (Chicago)

The Narragansett is a historic apartment building at 1640 E. 50th Street in the Kenwood neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The building was built in 1928 at the peak of apartment construction in Chicago, as apartments had grown in popularity throughout the early 20th century. It was one of several apartments built in the Chicago Beach Development, a lakefront property that was developed into a fashionable neighborhood known as Indian Village. Architects Leichenko and Esser designed the Art Deco building. The 22-story building features brick piers spanning its entire height, terra cotta spandrels dividing each floor, and decorative limestone on the first three floors. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 18, 2005.

Indian Village Is the nickname given to the southeast portion of the Kenwood community area of Chicago, Illinois, United States. It is roughly bounded by Lake Shore Drive to the east Burnham Park to the north, 51st Street (East Hyde Park Boulevard) to the south, Harold Washington Park to the southeast, and the Illinois Central Railroad tracks used by the Metra's South Shore and Metra Electric Lines to the West. Many of the buildings in the neighborhood are named after Native American Indian tribes including the National Register of Historic Places-designated (NRHP) Narragansett and the Chicago Landmark Powhatan Apartments. Other buildings include several Algonquin Apartment buildings and the Chippewa.

Harold Washington Park is a small (10 acre) park in the Chicago Park District located in the Hyde Park community area on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois, US. In 1992, it was named for Harold Washington (1922–1987), the first African-American Chicago Mayor. The Park District officially calls the park Harold Washington Playlot Park with a designated address of 5200 S. Hyde Park Blvd Chicago, IL 60615. It is one of 4 Chicago Park District parks named after persons surnamed Washington (Washington Park, Washington Square Park, Dinah Washington Park). It is one of 40 Chicago Park District parks named after influential African Americans. The Park is bounded by East 53rd Street on the south, South Hyde Park Boulevard on the west, and Lake Shore Drive to the east. Architecturally, it is flanked to the north by Regents Park and The Hampton House to the south. Its southwest corner opposes two National Register of Historic Places Properties: Hotel Del Prado and East Park Towers.

The Powhatan or Powhatan Apartments is a 22-story luxury apartment building overlooking Lake Michigan and adjacent to Burnham Park in the Kenwood neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The building was designed by architects Robert De Golyer and Charles L. Morgan. Much of the Art Deco detailing is attributed to Morgan who was associated with Frank Lloyd Wright. The exterior of the luxury-apartment highrise reflects Eliel Saarinen's second place design for the Tribune Tower competition of 1922. The building's terra-cotta ornamental panels feature conventionalized scenes based upon Native American culture. This housing cooperative is a residential high-rise on Chicago's South Side. The building also hosts the only 24-hour elevator operators in Chicago. Since it and many of the neighboring high-rise apartment buildings are named for Native American tribes (such as the Algonquin, The Chippewa and the Narragansett), the area has been given the tongue-in-cheek name "Indian Village". It was designated a Chicago Landmark on January 12, 1993.

The Hyde Park Art Center (HPAC) is a visual arts organization and the oldest alternative exhibition space in the city of Chicago. Since 2006, HPAC has been located just north of Hyde Park Boulevard, at 5020 S.Cornell Avenue, in the Kenwood neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois.

The Chicago Beach Apartments, built in 1929, are located at 5100 South Cornell Avenue in Chicago, USA. Landfilling and other reconfiguration of the lakefront means that the building is not as close to a beach as it once was. Currently known as Scholars Corner Apartments, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 14, 1986.

Akiba-Schechter Jewish Day School is a private Jewish day school in Hyde Park, Chicago. It is the only Jewish school on Chicago's South Side and attracts a wide range of students from across the Chicago metropolitan area. Tuition for the 2023-2024 school year is between $24,730 and $26,190 based on grade level.

51st–53rd Street (Hyde Park) is a commuter rail station within the City of Chicago serves the Metra Electric Line north to Millennium Station and south to University Park, Blue Island, and South Chicago. As of 2018, the station is the 78th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 671 weekday boardings. The station location, one of the oldest in the United States, has been in continuous use by commuters since 1856. During peak commute hours, many express trains stop at this station. At off-peak hours, it is served mainly by local trains. Station entrances are located at E. Hyde Park Boulevard (5100 S.)/Lake Park Avenue and at 53rd Street/Lake Park Avenue. The station is located near Kenwood Academy High School, the 53rd Street commercial district, and the Regents Park apartment complex. The East Hyde Park Boulevard (51st Street) viaduct was once the site of a graffiti mural, painted by non-profit youth organization Higher Gliffs with Metra's permission. In September 2006, the murals were whitewashed, possibly by mistake.The station was served by Illinois Central Railroad intercity-trains from Chicago to points south at an island platform on the two non-electrified tracks east of the electrified tracks. Amtrak's City of New Orleans, Illini, and Saluki still pass by the station without stopping. Prior to October 16, 1966, the South Shore Line also stopped at this station. On that date trains ceased calling at 53rd and instead began stopping at 57th Street, the next station south.

The East Park Towers are a historic apartment building at 5236-5252 S. Hyde Park Boulevard in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The building was constructed in 1922-23 during a period of residential growth in Hyde Park. While it had no guest rooms, the apartments offered similar amenities to an apartment hotel, such as housekeeping service. Apartment hotels were popular as part-time housing for wealthy workers, as they combined the amenities of in-home service with the affordability of apartments, and the East Park Towers were one of several such apartments built in Hyde Park at the time. Architect William P. Doerr designed the building in the Georgian Revival style; his design included terra cotta belt courses and quoins and Palladian windows on the first floor.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 14, 1986.

The Hotel Del Prado is a historic apartment hotel at 5307 S. Hyde Park Boulevard in the Hyde Park neighborhood in Chicago, Illinois. Built in 1918, it is the oldest of the several apartment hotels built in Hyde Park in the late 1910s and 1920s. Hyde Park was growing in both population and prestige at the time, creating a need for additional housing. Apartment hotels were a fashionable choice, as they combined the amenities and prestige of hotels with the affordability of apartments. The Hotel Del Prado had 198 apartments and included commercial space on its first and second floors. Its Neoclassical design includes Palladian windows on its lower floors, terra cotta trim throughout its exterior, and carved American Indian heads atop terra cotta columns.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 14, 1986.

The Hampton House is a residential condominium located in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois on the property that once housed the Hyde Park House, a hotel built by Hyde Park founder Paul Cornell in the 1850s. The property was originally named the Sisson Hotel when constructed in 1918.

The Hyde Park House was a four-story wood frame upscale hotel in Chicago, built and run by Paul Cornell, that served as the centerpiece for Hyde Park social life from 1857 until 1879. It was located on 53rd Street adjacent to Lake Michigan on land currently occupied by the Hampton House. Cornell successfully marketed Hyde Park as an affluent suburb and resort area. Hyde Park retained this image until the 1930s. The hotel not only served as host to affluent Chicagoans with leisure time and discretionary income, but also served as host to visiting dignitaries. Mary Todd Lincoln brought her sons, Robert and Tad, there after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln where they stayed for two and half months before moving downtown. It also served as host to Prince of Wales, Albert Edward during his 1860 visit to Chicago. The hotel also served as lodging for those studying new home sites in the region and for those overseeing new residential construction.
