Holzkirchen, Upper Bavaria

Holzkirchen station is a railway station on the Munich S-Bahn in the district of Holzkirchen in Upper Bavaria, Germany. It is served by the S-Bahn line S3 and Bayerische Regiobahn.

The Church of St Laurentius is a Roman Catholic parish church in the town of Holzkirchen, Upper Bavaria, Germany. It belongs to the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising.It is the oldest church in Holzkirchen. The date of its founding is unknown, though is thought to be around the year 1000. For much of its history, it was run by Tegernsee Abbey. The church (along with 15 houses) was destroyed in a fire in 1490. It was rebuilt in 1493, but further fires followed in 1532 (when the whole market was destroyed), 1562 and 1586. A complete rebuild occurred in 1704-1711 under the aegis of the abbot of Tegernsee, but further fires struck in 1728, 1777 and 1802. The church records on each occasion were destroyed. Tegernsee Abbey was finally secularised and closed in 1803. The church tower was removed owing to structural deterioration in 1830. It was replaced with the current one in 1838. The bells came back into use in 1840. Holzkirchen became a separate parish in 1855. The church continued to be afflicted by fires in 1841, 1844 and 1861. In 1882-86, many of the baroque fittings were removed, though this meant that they were saved from further fires in 1885 and 1895. They were not restored to their intended locations until an extensive redecoration scheme for the church was completed in 1967.

Valley is also the name of a village of this municipality. In the village of Valley is located the castle Schloss Valley, property of the Counts of Arco, which holds a Museum of Culture and Organs. Valley is also locally renowned for the brewery Gräfliche Brauerei Arco-Valley, which brews the Graf Arco beer. In 2002, the village played host to the 1st Extreme Ironing World Championships. Valley is located on the river Mangfall. Traces can be found that track the history of the village back as far as to the Celts.

The Mangfall Bridge is a motorway bridge across the valley of the Mangfall north of Weyarn in Upper Bavaria, Germany, which carries Bundesautobahn 8 between Munich and Rosenheim. The original bridge, designed by German Bestelmeyer, opened in January 1936 as one of the first large bridges in the Reichsautobahn system and was influential in its design. Destroyed at the end of World War II, this bridge was replaced with a temporary structure in 1948; the current bridge consists of a replacement built in 1958–60 to a design by Gerd Lohmer and Ulrich Finsterwalder and a second span for traffic in one direction which was added in the late 1970s when the autobahn was widened to six lanes.

The Schaftlach station is the railway station of Schaftlach and the only railway station in the municipality of Waakirchen in the district of Miesbach in Upper Bavaria. It is located on the Holzkirchen-Lenggries railway line, which opened in 1874, and has been a junction station since 1883, when the privately operated Schaftlach-Tegernsee railway went into service.
