Islote de Sancti Petri

The Castle of Sancti Petri (Castilian: Piedras Santas) is a stronghold located in San Fernando, Province of Cádiz, Andalusia, southwestern Spain. Situated on the little island of Sancti Petri, the defensive fortification was once one of a series of forts that protected the inlet, Caño de Sancti Petri. Of irregular shape and in the Moorish style, it dates from the 13th century. During the 1st century, the Phoenicians settled on the island, founding a temple dedicated to Melqart, their god, . When the Romans arrived they dedicated the temple to Hercules. The castle's watchtower is the oldest building, while the walls and the interior date from the 18th century. The castle was in an advanced state of deterioration, but the authorities of the municipalities of San Fernando and Chiclana de la Frontera funded a major rehabilitation programme. It was declared a Cultural Monument by Decree of April 22, 1949, and Law 16/1985, as a Spanish Historical Heritage landmark. In 1993, the Andalusian authorities gave it special recognition amongst the castles of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia.

It was named after Sangenís Antonio Torre, and was capable of holding 35 pieces of artillery. It was protected under the general declaration of the Decree of April 22 of 1949 and Law 16/1985 by the Patrimonio Histórico Españo (Spanish Historical Heritage).

It is a small defensive fortification that was used during the Siege of Cadiz, and is part of the whole defensive system of bastions and batteries that protected the southern entrance of Islote de Sancti Petri in the early nineteenth century along with the Castillo de Sancti Petri and two batteries, Batería de Urrutia and Batería de San Genís. Since it is located further north than the other fortifications, it is more open to the sea, and its size and armament was much lower. It was protected under the general declaration of the Decree of April 22 of 1949 and Law 16/1985 by the Patrimonio Histórico Españo (Spanish Historical Heritage).

Caño de Sancti Petri is a shallow channel in the province of Cádiz, Andalusia, southwestern Spain. Narrow and winding, it is situated between Isla de León and the mainland, and is part of the Bahía de Cádiz Natural Park.

Playa de la Barrosa is a 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) long beach in the municipality of Chiclana de la Frontera, Province of Cádiz, Spain. It was the site of the Battle of Barrosa in 1811. It is separated from the Playa de Sancti Petri by a cliff. The resort of Novo Sancti Petri lies at the south end of Playa de la Barrosa and contains a defensive tower structure called Torre Bermeja. Several pieces of music have been composed about the beach including Isaac Albéniz's Torre Bermeja and Paco de Lucía's La Barrosa.

Batería de San Melitón de la Calavera is a former defensive stronghold located near the beach of Camposoto at the southern end of the town of San Fernando in the Province of Cádiz, Andalusia, Spain. This battery was used to protect the Isla de Leon during the Siege of Cadiz and was part of the defense line of the Castle of Sancti Petri. It is 2 kilometers from the Batería de Aspiroz.

On 23 October 304, Calventius Viator sailed from here to Africa after being martyred. During the French siege there were two defensive batteries, one lower and one higher. Gallerinas today is also the name of a district (barrio) of the city.
