St Davids Cathedral

The Monastery of Saint David was a monastery in the current day St Davids in Pembrokeshire. It was founded by the patron saint of Wales, Saint David. It was on the site of the current St Davids Cathedral. David is thought to have founded a new church and monastery at a place then known as "Glyn Rhosyn" on the banks of the Afon Alun. The monastery would become known as Tyddewi (House of David) and was a famous centre of pilgrimage early in its history, attracting both foreign pilgrims of status and numerous Viking attacks by the ninth century. The scholastic community was famous throughout the Celtic world and in Anglo-Saxon England. When Alfred the Great wanted to establish a centre of learning at his court, he requested Asserius Menevensis, (Asser of St Davids) to join them. At that time, Asser had lived all his life at St Davids, being raised, tonsured, trained and ordained there. Yet Alfred's desire to secure his service was such that he acquiesced to a number of delays and requests before finally agreeing that Asser could split his time between Alfred's court and St David's. The Monastic Rule of David prescribed that monks had to pull the plough themselves without draught animals, and must drink only water and eat only bread with salt and herbs. The monks spent their evenings in prayer, reading and writing. No personal possessions were allowed: even to say "my book" was considered an offence. David lived a simple life and practised asceticism, teaching his followers to refrain from eating meat and drinking beer.

The Diocese of St Davids is a diocese of the Church in Wales, a church of the Anglican Communion. The diocese covers the historic extent of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, together with a small part of western Glamorgan. The episcopal see is the Cathedral Church of St David in the City of St Davids, Pembrokeshire. The present cathedral, which was begun in 1181, stands on the site of a monastery founded in the 6th century by Saint David. The diocese is divided into the three archdeaconries of St Davids, Carmarthen and Cardigan (additionally, Mones Farah serves as Archdeacon Missioner). The bishop's residence is Llys Esgob in Abergwili, Carmarthenshire.

St Davids or St David's (Welsh: Tyddewi, [tiː ˈðɛwi], lit. "David's house") is a cathedral city in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It lies on the River Alun and is part of the community of St Davids and the Cathedral Close. It is the resting place of Saint David, Wales's patron saint, and named after him. St Davids is the United Kingdom's smallest city by population (number of residents within the wider community was 1,751 in 2021) and urban area, but it is not the smallest city by local authority boundary area (which is the City of London). St Davids was given city status in the 12th century. This does not derive automatically, but in England and Wales was traditionally given to cathedral towns under practices laid down in the early 1540s, when Henry VIII founded dioceses. City status was lost in 1886, but restored in 1994 at the request of Queen Elizabeth II.

St Davids and the Cathedral Close (Welsh: Tyddewi a Chlos y Gadeirlan) is a community in western Pembrokeshire, Wales. It comprises the city of St Davids and its surrounding rural area. It was established in 1987.

St Davids Bishop's Palace (Welsh: Llys yr Esgob, Tyddewi) is a ruined medieval episcopal palace located adjacent to St Davids Cathedral in the city of St Davids, Pembrokeshire, one of the most important ecclesiastical sites in Wales. The site dates back to the 6th century, although the building that stands today dates largely from the late 13th and 14th centuries. The palace is under the management of Cadw, the historic environment service of the Welsh Government. It is open as a visitor attraction and an open-air theatre, and being part of the city's cathedral precinct, there are more than 300,000 visitors a year. It is a Grade I listed site.

St Davids City Hall (Welsh: Neuadd y Ddinas Tyddewi) is a municipal building in the High Street, St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales. The structure is currently used as the meeting place of St Davids City Council and as a public library.

St David's is an electoral ward in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It covers the small city of St Davids and the ward's boundaries are coterminous with those of the community of St Davids and the Cathedral Close. The ward elects a councillor to Pembrokeshire County Council. St Davids also elects twelve community councillors to St Davids City Council. According to the 2011 UK Census the population of the ward was 1,841 (with 1,509 of voting age).

Penrhiw Priory was originally built as a vicarage in St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales, in 1884. The building was enlarged in the 1960s, serving for a time as a priory. In 2008 The Retreats Group Trust bought the building and commissioned Acanthus Holden Architects it undertake its conversion into a hotel. Then in 2012, Penrhiw Priory reopened as an eight-bedroom hotel restored along with Roch Castle and Twr y Felin Hotel, by the Griffiths Roch Foundation, which was set up in 2009 by international architect Keith Griffiths. It is a Grade-II listed building. The Priory's Garden Bedroom was used by the vicar who was placed here by the Church of England in 1882 to stem the migration to non-conformist chapels. The stables housed his horses and carriage which enabled him to visit parishioners to entice them back to the church.

The Chapel of St Non is located on the coast near St David's in Pembrokeshire, West Wales. Held by tradition to mark the birthplace of St David, the ruin cannot be accurately dated but is unusual in that it is aligned north–south rather than the usual east–west. Near to the ruined chapel is a retreat, a modern chapel and a holy well. The site was protected in the 1950s and is now the responsibility of the Welsh Heritage organisation Cadw.

Ysgol Dewi Sant was a secondary school in St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

Caerfai Bay is a rocky cove on the north coast of St Brides Bay near St Davids in Pembrokeshire, West Wales. It is enclosed by steep varicoloured cliffs and has a sandy beach at low tide accessed by pathway and steps. The beach is situated in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. There is free parking above the beach with picnic benches and views of the islands of Skomer and Skokholm off the southern coast of St Brides and Penpleidiau islet off the southern point of the eastern Caerfai headland.

Porthclais (also known as Porth Clais) is a small sheltered inlet harbour near St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales, in the community of St Davids and the Cathedral Close.
