Warwick Arts Centre

The University of Warwick ( WORR-ik; abbreviated as Warw. in post-nominal letters) is a public research university on the outskirts of Coventry between the West Midlands and Warwickshire, England. The university was founded in 1965 as part of a government initiative to expand higher education. The Warwick Business School was established in 1967, the Warwick Law School in 1968, Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) in 1980, and Warwick Medical School in 2000. Warwick incorporated Coventry College of Education in 1979 and Horticulture Research International in 2004. Warwick is primarily based on a 290 hectares (720 acres) campus on the outskirts of Coventry, with a satellite campus in Wellesbourne and a central London base at the Shard. It is organised into three faculties—Arts, Science Engineering and Medicine, and Social Sciences—within which there are 32 departments. As of 2021, Warwick has around 29,534 full-time students and 2,691 academic and research staff, with an average intake of 4,950 undergraduates out of 38,071 applicants (7.7 applicants per place). The annual income of the institution for 2021–22 was £770.6 million of which £139.9 million was from research grants and contracts, with an expenditure of £860.8 million. Warwick Arts Centre is a multi-venue arts complex in the university's main campus and is the largest venue of its kind in the UK, which is not in London. Warwick is a member of AACSB, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the Association of MBAs, EQUIS, the European University Association, the Midlands Innovation group, the Russell Group, Sutton 13 and Universities UK. It is the only European member of the Center for Urban Science and Progress, a collaboration with New York University. The university has extensive commercial activities, including the University of Warwick Science Park and WMG, University of Warwick. Warwick's alumni and staff include winners of the Nobel Prize, Turing Award, Fields Medal, Richard W. Hamming Medal, Emmy Award, Grammy, and the Padma Vibhushan, and are fellows to the British Academy, the Royal Society of Literature, the Royal Academy of Engineering, and the Royal Society. Alumni also include heads of state, government officials, leaders in intergovernmental organisations, and a former chief economist at the Bank of England. Researchers at Warwick have also made significant contributions such as the development of penicillin, music therapy, the Washington Consensus, second-wave feminism, computing standards, including ISO and ECMA, complexity theory, contract theory, and the International Political Economy as a field of study.

Gibbet Hill is the location of, and name for, the University of Warwick's southern campus, in the south of Coventry, England. The Gibbet Hill campus is home to the School of Life Sciences, the University's Estates Office, Warwick Medical School, and some maths houses. The campus also has its own cafe, serving hot and cold meals throughout the day. Gibbet Hill is southeast of the university's main campus, which can be reached by a path through Tocil Wood or by Gibbet Hill Road. It is approximately one kilometre from the heart of the central campus, a 10–12 minute walk. Gibbet Hill is 25–30 minutes on foot from the Westwood Campus. It is also a small, prosperous district of southern Coventry. The hill is named after the crossroads at the apex of the hill (just beyond the campus on the Kenilworth road) where a scaffold for public hangings called a gibbet used to stand.In recent years, redevelopment work has taken place at Gibbet Hill, including the conversion of some former mathematics facilities into medical teaching buildings.

WMG, University of Warwick (formerly Warwick Manufacturing Group), is a UK-based research and education group combining collaborative research and development with education programmes working in applied science, technology and engineering. An academic department of the University of Warwick and a centre of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, WMG was founded by Kumar Bhattacharyya in 1980 to help reinvigorate UK manufacturing and improve competitiveness through innovation and skills development.

Warwick Business School (WBS) is an academic department of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Warwick University, that was established in 1967 as the School of Industrial and Business Studies. The Business School offers undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD degree programs, and non-degree executive education for individuals and companies. The Warwick MBA is offered as a one-year full-time program, an Executive MBA and by distance learning (blended learning). WBS University of Warwick campus is on the border of the city of Coventry and the county of Warwickshire in a semi-rural green belt location. WBS London campus is located in The Shard Tower, one of the tallest buildings in Europe.Warwick graduates are active in business. In the automotive industry, this includes CEO of Aston Martin; Ralf Speth, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover; Linda Jackson, CEO of Citroën; Andy Palmer. Others include Bernardo Hees, CEO of the Heinz Company & former CEO of Burger King.

The National Automotive Innovation Centre (NAIC), sometimes referred to as the National Automotive Innovation Campus, is a building at the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom. It is a joint venture between the University's WMG, Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Motors. The building was opened by HRH The Prince of Wales on 18 February 2020.The NAIC will be a focus for automotive research, combining expertise from industry, university academics and supply chain companies. It is intended to support advances in technology to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and vehicle emissions. The £150 million project is funded by a range of partners: £50 million of the project funding is being provided by the University of Warwick's development partners, Jaguar Land Rover, with additional funding from WMG and Tata Motors European Technical Centre. The remaining £15 million is from the government's Higher Education Funding Council for England.The four-storey building, designed by Cullinan Studio, will have a total floorspace of 33,964 square metres. It is estimated that around 1,060 people will be employed at the site. Facilities in the building are expected to include research and development facilities, an engineering hall, a virtual reality lab, design workshops, teaching facilities, offices, meeting rooms, library, outdoor car viewing garden, a publicly accessible showroom and café.Coventry City Council approved the plans on 26 June 2014. Construction is expected to start in 2014 with the building set to be completed by 2016.The building is named The Prof. Lord Bhattacharyya Building after Lord Bhattacharyya. It is on the main road of the Warwick campus, which was renamed Lord Bhattacharyya Way in 2018.

Westwood is one of three campuses of the University of Warwick (the other two being the main campus and Gibbet Hill).

Cannon Park is a suburb in the southwest of the City of Coventry, West Midlands, England. It can be accessed via the major roads Kenpas Highway (A45) or Kenilworth Road. The area has a sizable shopping centre of the same name (considered 'state-of-the-art' when it opened in 1977) which features food stores, shops and eateries. Tenants include a post office, Tesco, Wilko and Iceland. The residential area of Cannon Park was developed between the late-1960s and mid-1980s and is considered to be one of the most prosperous districts of the city. The University of Warwick is located directly adjacent to Cannon Park. The suburb is served by Cannon Park Primary School located within it. It is bounded by the suburbs of Canley to the north and west, Westwood Heath to the south, Cannon Hill to the northeast, and Gibbet Hill to the southeast. The bus stop at the shopping centre is used as the stop and sometimes terminus for Megabus services to London, Leeds, Manchester and Portsmouth. There are currently plans in place to demolish the current shopping centre, and replace it with a new one including a significantly larger Tesco Extra store, similar in size to the one at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry. It is currently unclear when such plans will be developed, as whilst receiving planning permission from the local authority, there has been significant opposition from local residents.

Warwick Medical School is the medical school of the University of Warwick and is located in Coventry, United Kingdom. It was opened in 2000 in partnership with Leicester Medical School, and was granted independent degree-awarding status in 2007.

Coventry College of Education existed as a separate institution until its incorporation into the University of Warwick in 1978 as the Westwood campus. It was located to the north of the University's main site. From 1948, the Principal of Coventry Teacher Training College (later called Coventry College of Education) was Joan Dillon Browne (1912–2009), who was made an honorary professor on her retirement in 1975. Under her leadership, the college roll grew to some 1,500 students, among them – in the mid-1970s – Estelle Morris, future Secretary of Education, who remembered "JD" as "a pioneer in showing what women could achieve, long before it was fashionable to do so". On Joan Dillon's retirement, vice-principal Gordon Lawrence (1923–2011) became principal. When the college merged with the University of Warwick in 1978, he was appointed as the first Director of the Institute of Education, remaining in post until his retirement in 1984. During the early 1970s the college arranged overseas visits and exchanges for students. These included visits to Silkeborg in Denmark and a student exchange scheme with Eastern Michigan University in the USA.In 2013, a working group at the University of Warwick recommended that the Institute of Education should be replaced by the establishment of two different units, "a University-wide academic Centre for Education Studies and a business unit for the professional education of teachers".In 2013, Dr Adam Boddison was appointed as the Director of the Centre for Professional Education. Under Adam Boddison's leadership, the Centre for Professional Education was judged by Ofsted to be outstanding in all areas for both Primary and Secondary teacher training in January 2016.

The Houses for Visiting Mathematicians (also known as the Mathematics Research Centre houses) are a set of five houses and two flats, built for academics attending mathematical conferences at the University of Warwick. The buildings are Grade II* listed and were built between 1968 and 1969 to the design of architect Bill Howell and were opened in June of that year by then Vice-Chancellor Jack Butterworth, Sir Christopher Zeeman and Bill Howell. Their construction was supported by a £50,000 grant from the Nuffield Foundation. In 1970, they received the RIBA Architecture Award. The houses comprise a combined living room/kitchen and large study bedroom on the ground floor, and smaller study bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor. The curved walls of the downstairs study are lined with blackboards, built to the specification that they should be high enough for the mathematician to work but also "low enough for small children to use the bottom bit."

Canley is a suburban neighbourhood located in CV4, south-west Coventry, England. Canley became part of Coventry as a result of successive encroachment of the latter's boundaries between 1928 and 1932, having historically been part of the Stoneleigh parish. Electorally, it is largely in Westwood ward and partially within the Wainbody and Earlsdon wards. The area is home to many students attending the nearby University of Warwick. There was a level crossing adjacent to Canley railway station until 2003, when the road was closed and a foot bridge was built over the railway. The suburb is bisected by the A45 dual-carriageway, with a major state housing development (built in the early-1950s) lying to the south and an area of private housing (Canley Gardens) situated north of this road towards Canley rail station. Adjacent districts include Cannon Park and Cannon Hill to the east, Tile Hill South to the north and Westwood Heath to south.

WMG Academy for Young Engineers is a University Technical College in the Canley area of Coventry, England. The college opened in 2014 on a site adjacent to The Westwood Academy.
