St. Joseph's Seminary and College, sometimes referred to as Dunwoodie after the Yonkers, New York neighborhood it is located in, is the major seminary of the Archdiocese of New York. Its primary mission is to form men for the priesthood in the Catholic Church. It educates men destined to serve within the Archdiocese and other archdioceses and dioceses both in the United States and abroad. Once called the "West Point of Seminaries" for its thorough education and strict discipline, St. Joseph's Seminary holds a reputation as one of the more prestigious and theologically orthodox Roman Catholic seminaries in the United States. As both a college and seminary, it has been accredited both through Middle States Commission on Higher Education and the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum), respectively. It can, thus, offer the degrees of Master of Divinity and S.T.B. to seminarians who have fulfilled the proper academic requirements. Those who maintain an acceptable grade point average and fulfill other academic requirements are eligible for a Master of Arts. Attached to the seminary is an Institute for Religious Studies which prepares candidates for the diaconate and offers non-seminarians, both laity and clergy, an opportunity to earn a M.A. With the inter-diocesan collaboration from the Diocese of Brooklyn and the Diocese of Rockville Centre, the formation of laity and permanent deacons, as well as the continuing education of priests will be through the Sacred Heart Institute, located at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception, Huntington, Long Island, New York, beginning in September 2012. The seminary also serves as the major seminary for the Community of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, who study alongside the diocesan seminarians, but live off campus at a friary in Yonkers. The seminary is about 16 miles north of the Cathedral of Saint Patrick in midtown Manhattan.

Sarah Lawrence College is a private liberal arts college in Yonkers, New York. The college models its approach to education after the Oxford/Cambridge system of one-on-one student-faculty tutorials. Sarah Lawrence emphasizes scholarship, particularly in the humanities, performing arts, and writing, and places high value on independent study. Originally a women's college, Sarah Lawrence became coeducational in 1968.

Dunwoodie is a neighborhood in Yonkers, New York, noted for being the home of St. Joseph's Seminary on Valentine Hill. Dunwoodie (proper) is located north of the Seminary, while Dunwoodie Heights includes the seminary and what is south of it. Dunwoodie also includes Yonkers' "Little Italy" and a public golf course. Dunwoodie is noted for its pizzerias, among them, Louie and Johnnie's, Midland Pizza, and Dunwoodie Pizza. The Yonkers Raceway is close by, located in Wakefield Park, while the Cross County Shopping Mall is also close by, but located in the neighborhood of Kimball. St. Joseph's Seminary is located technically in the neighborhood of Seminary Heights, but it is colloquially known as Dunwoodie. The Bee-Line Bus System has bus stops near the Cross County Shopping Center and Yonkers Raceway. The neighborhood is also accessible by exit 3 on the I-87 (Major Deegan Expressway). The Bronx River Parkway (to Exit 11W) and Cross County Expressway (exit 4S) are also nearby.

Bronx River Road is a major street and neighborhood in Yonkers, New York. It runs alongside the Bronx River, Bronx River Parkway, and Metro-North railroad tracks in south-eastern Yonkers. On the other side of the Bronx River is the City of Mount Vernon, New York as well as the Bronx. Bronx River Road runs down to McLean Avenue at the city line with New York City where it becomes Webster Avenue in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx. To the north, when it reaches the Cross County Parkway, Bronx River Road merges into Midland Avenue which leads to the Village of Bronxville, New York. Bronx River Road is lined with many older, large apartment houses along with several residential blocks with small corner stores. The area could be described as middle class. Though the area is sometimes referred to as Sherwood Park, or Fleetwood, most area residents refer to their neighborhood simply as "Bronx River Road". On March 16, 2003, there was a major fire at the Wakefield Towers apartment building at 85 Bronx River Road. Though there were no serious injuries, the building suffered massive damage, leaving over 300 people homeless. Since then, Wakefield Towers has been gutted, renovated, and rehabilitated, with all its architectural detail (turrets, minarets, etc.) having been restored by February 2007. This neighborhood is one of the most populated in eastern Yonkers.

Plashbourne Estate is a historic estate located in the Lawrence Park West section of Yonkers, Westchester County, New York. It was designed in 1911 by the architectural firm of Carrère and Hastings and built for artist Violet Oakley (1874–1961) in the Tudor Revival style. It is a 2+1⁄2-story stone building with an irregular compound plan and cross-gabled roofline. After 1915, it became the home of Anna Lawrence Bisland (1872–1950), third daughter of William Van Duzer Lawrence, who resided there until her death. Grayson L. Kirk (1903–1997) resided at Plashbourne Estate from 1973 until his death.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

Yonkers Raceway & Empire City Casino, founded in 1899 as the Empire City Race Track, is a one-half-mile standardbred harness racing dirt track and slots racino located at the intersection of Central Park Avenue and Yonkers Avenue in Yonkers, New York, near the New York City border. It is owned by Vici Properties and operated by MGM Resorts International.

Fleetwood station is a commuter rail stop on the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line, located in the Fleetwood section of Mount Vernon, New York. It is 14.3 miles (23.0 km) from Grand Central Terminal and travel time there is approximately 34 minutes. As of August 2006, daily commuter ridership was 2,355 and there are 654 parking spots. The station is located in the Zone 3 Metro-North fare zone.

Mount Vernon West station is a commuter rail stop on the Metro-North Railroad's Harlem Line, located in Mount Vernon, New York. It is the southernmost stop on the Harlem Line in Westchester County, New York. It is 13.1 miles (21.1 km) from Grand Central Terminal and travel time there is approximately 32 minutes. Its ticket office and waiting area are at the bottom level of the Bank of New York building on Mount Vernon Avenue. The station is the southernmost station in the Zone 3 Metro-North fare zone.

Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Hall of Records is a historic corporate archives located at Yonkers, Westchester County, New York. It was designed by architect D. Everett Waid and built by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in 1906. The Classical Revival style building consists of a two-story section built in 1906, a third floor that was added in 1920, and two additions that were constructed in 1917 and 1927. It is constructed of steel frame and reinforced concrete, and has a brick curtain wall. The building is "L"-shaped features a convex portico with cast stone columns at the interior of the "L". The building housed over 56 linear miles of filing space in shelving units and cabinets and remained under Metropolitan Life's ownership until 2006.: 3–4, 10 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

Yonkers () is a city in Westchester County, New York, United States. Developed along the Hudson River, it is the third most populous city in the state of New York, after New York City and Buffalo. The population of Yonkers was 211,569 as enumerated in the 2020 United States Census. It is classified as an inner suburb of New York City, located directly to the north of the Bronx and approximately two miles (3 km) north of Marble Hill, Manhattan, the northernmost point in Manhattan. Yonkers's downtown is centered on a plaza known as Getty Square, where the municipal government is located. The downtown area also houses significant local businesses and nonprofit organizations. It serves as a major retail hub for Yonkers and the northwest Bronx. The city is home to several attractions, including access to the Hudson River, Tibbetts Brook Park, with its public pool with slides and lazy river and two-mile walking loop Untermyer Park; Hudson River Museum; Saw Mill River daylighting, wherein a parking lot was removed to uncover the Nepperkamack (Saw Mill River); Science Barge; and Sherwood House. Yonkers Raceway, a harness racing track, renovated its grounds and clubhouse, and added legalized video slot machine gambling in 2006 to become a "racino" named Empire City. In more recent years, Yonkers has undergone progressive gentrification.Major shopping areas are located in Getty Square, on South Broadway, at the Cross County Shopping Center and Westchester's Ridge Hill, and along Central Park Avenue, informally called "Central Ave" by area residents, a name it takes officially a few miles north in White Plains. Yonkers is known as the "City of Seven Hills", including Park, Nodine, Ridge, Cross, Locust, Glen, and Church Hills.

Eleazer Hart House is a historic home located at 243 Bronxville Road in the Cedar Knolls section of Southeast Yonkers, Westchester County, New York. It was built in 1788 and is a Federal period residence. The building incorporates an earlier tenant farmhouse dating from the Philipse Manor era (1684–1783) and most likely dates to about 1760. The older house is a 1+1⁄2-story, three-by-two-bay building on a stone foundation. The main house is five bays wide on the first floor and three bays on the second. It has a gable roof and is clad in wide shingles, painted white. Also on the property is a 1+1⁄2-story, gable-roofed barn.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Lincoln High School is located in Yonkers, New York. It is one of the seven public high schools in the city and has an enrollment of about 1200 students. The front portion of the building was opened in 1953 as Southeast Yonkers Jr., Sr. High School with grades six through eight. It was completed in 1955 and renamed Lincoln Junior-Senior High School the following year. After the first year, sixth grade was dropped and ninth grade added and when the building was completed it became Lincoln Junior-Senior High School, enrolling grades seven through twelve. In the 1970s, the junior high grades were sequentially eliminated and the school became a four-year, grade nine to twelve, high school. Some members of the class of 1976 went to the school for grades seven to twelve (the last class to do so). It was not named for United States President Abraham Lincoln. The school was named Lincoln High School after the Lincoln Park area of Yonkers where it is located. The first graduating class, which went continuously from sixth grade to 12th grade, graduated in 1960. A very high percentage of that class went on to college and several of its graduates returned to Lincoln as teachers. The school colors are purple and white. Its mascot is a knight holding a lance, and its athletic teams are known as the Lincoln Lancers. Both colors and mascot were chosen by the class of 1960.
