Groningen Europapark (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɣroːnɪŋə(n) øːˈroːpaːˌpɑr(ə)k]; abbreviation: Gerp) is an unstaffed railway station in Groningen in the Netherlands. It is situated on the Harlingen–Nieuweschans railway between Groningen and Kropswolde and on the Meppel–Groningen railway between Haren and Groningen. It was opened in 2007 and rebuilt in 2012. Local train services are operated by Arriva and Nederlandse Spoorwegen.

The Winschoterdiep (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌʋɪnsxoːtərˈdip]) is a canal in the province Groningen of the Netherlands. It leads to the Rensel, which is actually part of this canal. Construction was started in 1618 and finished in 1634. The Winschoterdiep's total length is 35.5 kilometres, and it is approximately 100 metres in width. Sixteen bridges and locks are built across this canal, as well as many other passages. Ships must be less than 16 m in breadth to pass through some of these. It is one of the oldest canals ever built in Groningen still in use. In the section between Hoogezand and Waterhuizen, there are several shipwharfs. Hoogezand was founded near the canal in 1618.Where the canal runs through the municipality of Menterwolde, there is significant water-sport activity in season.

Essen is a small hamlet in the municipality of Groningen in the province of Groningen. It lies between the city of Groningen and the village of Haren. In 1215 a monastery was founded in Essen (or Yesse). It existed until 1594. During the Protestant Reformation it was closed down by the province of Groningen. It was known for having a miraculous statue of Mary (mother of Jesus). Only the terrain on which the monastery was built is recognisable. Today Essen counts twenty farms in a very rural countryside; it is hard to imagine that the centre of the city of Groningen is only 5 km (3 mi) away. The existence of Essen is being threatened by plans to build a new beltway, the Zuidtangent. The municipality of Haren has so far resisted these plans.

The Diocese of Groningen-Leeuwarden (Dutch: Bisdom Groningen-Leeuwarden; Latin: Dioecesis Groningensis-Leovardiensis) is a suffragan Latin diocese of the Catholic Church in the northern part of the ecclesiastical province of the Metropolitan Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Utrecht (covering all the Netherlands). It encompasses the provinces of Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe, as well as the Noordoostpolder, a part of the province of Flevoland.The cathedral episcopal seat is the Saint Joseph Cathedral in the city of Groningen, capital of the province of the same name. One former cathedral remains in Catholic use : the Sint-Maartenskerk, dedicated to Saint Martin, also in Groningen, is now Protestant church; the Sint-Vituskerk, dedicated to Saint Vitus, in Leeuwarden (Friesland province, most of Dutch Frisia) is only rarely frequented by a small community of faithful from an old orphanage.

The St. Joseph Cathedral (Dutch: Sint-Jozef kathedraal) is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Groningen-Leeuwarden in the city of Groningen in the Netherlands.

International School Groningen (ISG) is an International School situated in Haren, Groningen, in the north of the Netherlands. The school consists of approximately 200 students from various countries. During their first five years, the students follow the IB Middle Years Programme or IBMYP and during their last two years they follow the IB Diploma Programme or IBDP.

Maartenscollege, Groningen is a secondary Christian school in the Netherlands. The school was founded by the Society of Jesus in 1946 and is now affiliated with the Carmel College Foundation.

The Jozef Israëls Monument is a bronze sculpture of 1916 made to honor Jozef Israëls. The sculpture was created by Abraham Hesselink and is displayed in Israëls's birthplace of Groningen, in the Netherlands. During World War II the sculpture was destroyed by fascists and it was restored after the war. The restored sculpture was unveiled in 1946.

The Pepergasthuis (also known as the Sint Geertruidsgasthuis) is a hofje on the Peperstraat in Groningen, Netherlands.

H.N. Werkman College is a Dutch High School in the city of Groningen. The school is named after the Dutch artist, typographer and printer Hendrik Nicolaas Werkman. The school is divided over four buildings: Stadslyceum, Dalton, Kluiverboom and Vinkenstraat. In 2006 the school had 1352 students and 130 employees. The current rector of the H.N. Werkmancollege is C. Japenga.The school in the city centre offers the streams havo, vwo and Lyceum (which offers students Latin as an extra subject). It also has a Technasium department. Werkman vmbo only offers the stream vmbo.

Oosterpark Stadion (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌoːstərˈpɑr(ə)k ˈstaːdijɔn]) was the stadium of football club FC Groningen until December 2005. The all-seater stadium in Groningen's Oosterpark neighbourhood was inaugurated on 30 September 1933 and renovated in 1960, 1984 and 1987/88. The stadium has been replaced by the new, larger Euroborg stadium, and the ground it occupied is being redeveloped. The stadium's peak capacity was 22,000 spectators (in 1985). At the time of the demolition, the capacity was 11,224. Clubs that played in the stadium earlier are BRC, GVAV Rapiditas and De Oosterparkers. The best visited game ever was FC Groningen - Servette FC with 19,500 spectators. The stadium in Groningen hosted two international matches of the Dutch national football team in the early 1980s, both won by the home side 3-0. The first one was a qualifying match for 1982 FIFA World Cup on 22 February 1981 against Cyprus with goals scored by Hugo Hovenkamp, Cees Schapendonk and Dick Nanninga; this match was notable because the first and the third Netherlands' goalscorers were players who were born in Groningen. The second and the last one was a qualifying match for Euro 1984 on 7 September 1983 against Iceland with goals scored by Ronald Koeman, Ruud Gullit and Peter Houtman.

The University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG, Dutch: Universitair Medisch Centrum Groningen), formerly Groningen University Hospital, is the main hospital in Groningen, Netherlands.The medical centre is affiliated with the University of Groningen and offers supraregional tertiary care to the northern part of the Netherlands. It employs almost 17,000 people and numbers almost 1400 beds. It is located in the centre of Groningen. It is also one of the largest centres for transplant surgery in the world. Organ transplant operations of all possible kinds are carried out at the UMCG, including combined transplants of multiple organs in one operation. The main building was opened in 1997. Its design theme is based on light and air, and its 32 elevators each have a different theme. Art plays an important role in the hospital, with several exhibitions, statues, and a big fountain in the centre of the hospital. The UMCG contains several shops, including two coffee shops, a restaurant, a minimart, a candy & card store, a travel agency, a barber, a bookstore, a library for patients, and a Rituals flagship store. The ground floor is designed so that visitors do not feel as if they are in a hospital - the space is airy, there is a lot of green, and the glass roofs are opened when the weather is fair. Patient wards are on the outside of the building, so that all rooms have windows with a view. Each ward has a balcony that opens to one of the main 'streets' of the hospital. The operating centre, intensive care units, and staff rooms are in the central part of the building. At four stories in height, the UMCG does not rise above the surrounding city.
