Krško

The Lower Sava Valley (Slovene: Posavje, also Spodnje Posavje and Posavska regija) is a region in southeastern Slovenia on the border with Croatia. It has three major urban centers: Brežice, Krško, and Sevnica. Its borders are almost identical with those of the Lower Sava Statistical Region. It extends along the lower part of the Sava River, on the border with Croatia. In terms of its acreage, it is the second smallest region in Slovenia because it has only 885 km2 and covers 4.4 percent of Slovenia’s territory. The neighboring regions are the Savinja region to the north, the Central Sava Valley (Slovene: Zasavje) to the west, and Lower Carniola to the south. According to the 2003 census, 70,262 people lived in the region, which constitutes 3.5 percent of Slovenia’s population. The region represents approximately 4.5% of Slovenian territory and covers 885 km2. It is not densely populated; there are 79 people per km2. The inhabitants live in 409 settlements. The following municipalities are part of the Lower Sava Valley: Krško, Brežice, Sevnica, Kostanjevica na Krki, Radeče, and Bistrica ob Sotli. The Lower Sava Valley is a popular tourist destination due to its cultural, natural, and historical riches. Local culinary specialties, high-quality wines, and towns with rich heritage offer many opportunities for both fun and relaxation. There are many walking trails, riding trails, golf courses, and spas.

The Urban Municipality of Krško (pronounced [ˈkə́ɾʃkɔ] ; Slovene: Mestna občina Krško) is an urban municipality in eastern Slovenia. Its seat is the town of Krško. The area is traditionally divided between Lower Styria (territory on the left bank of the Sava) and Lower Carniola (territory on the right bank of the Sava). The entire municipality is now included in the Lower Sava Statistical Region. Krško received the status of an urban municipality in December 2021. It borders Croatia.

Nogometni klub Krško (English: Krško Football Club), commonly referred to as NK Krško or simply Krško, is a Slovenian football club from Krško which plays in the Slovenian Second League. The club was founded in 1922.

The area is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola. It is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Lower Sava Statistical Region.

Leskovec Castle or Turn Castle (Slovene: Grad Turn, Turn na Vrhu, Turnska graščina, Šrajbarski turn, Grad Leskovec; German: Thurn am Hart) is a 15th-century castle north of the village of Leskovec pri Krškem (City Municipality of Krško), southeastern Slovenia. It has been redesigned in the 16th and the 18th centuries.

Leskovec pri Krškem (pronounced [lɛˈskɔːʋəts pɾi ˈkəɾʃkɛm] or [lɛˈskoːʋəts pɾi ˈkəɾʃkɛm]; German: Haselbach) is a settlement on the right bank of the Sava River in the City Municipality of Krško in eastern Slovenia. The area is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola. It is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Lower Sava Statistical Region. It includes the hamlets of Grad (a.k.a. Turnska graščina), Beli Breg, Veliki Marof (in older sources also Gorenji Marof, German: Obermeierhof), and Žadovinka. Older sources also mention the appertaining hamlet of Bajer (German: Weiher).

Žadovinek (pronounced [ʒadɔˈʋiːnək]; in older sources also Zadovinek: 78 ) is a settlement on the right bank of the Sava River, east of Leskovec in the Municipality of Krško in eastern Slovenia. The area is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola. It is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Lower Sava Statistical Region.

Loke (pronounced [ˈloːkɛ]) is a small settlement in the hills immediately northwest of Leskovec pri Krškem in the Municipality of Krško in eastern Slovenia. The area is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola. It is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Lower Sava Statistical Region. It includes an isolated vacation estate on Saint Florian Hill (Slovene: Florjanov hrib) east of the settlement, known as Florijanovo (German: Thalhof). There is a small chapel-shrine in the settlement, dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It was built in the early 20th century.

Krško Castle (Slovene: Grad Krško, German: Schloss Gurckfeld) is a 12th-century castle ruin to the right of the Sava above the old center of the town of Krško, southeastern Slovenia. It stands in the territory of the settlement of Cesta. The castle and town are both named after the nearby Krka River.

Beli Breg (Slovene pronunciation: [ˈbeːli ˈbɾeːk]) is a former settlement in the Municipality of Krško in northeastern Slovenia. It is now part of the village of Leskovec pri Krškem. The area is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola. The municipality is now included in the Lower Sava Statistical Region.

Osredek pri Trški Gori (pronounced [ɔˈsɾeːdək pɾi ˈtəɾʃki ˈɡɔːɾi]) is a small settlement in the hills above the right bank of the Sava River, beyond Trška Gora in the Municipality of Krško in eastern Slovenia. The area is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola. It is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Lower Sava Statistical Region.

Vrbina (pronounced [ʋəɾˈbiːna]) is a settlement on the right bank of the Sava River in the Municipality of Krško in eastern Slovenia. The Krško Nuclear Power Plant is built on the southern side of the settlement. The area is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola. It is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Lower Sava Statistical Region.
