Naval Air Station Cecil Field

Cecil Airport (IATA: VQQ, ICAO: KVQQ, FAA LID: VQQ) is a public airport and commercial spaceport located in Jacksonville, Florida, United States. It is owned by the Jacksonville Aviation Authority and services military aircraft, corporate aircraft, general aviation, and air cargo. The Florida Army National Guard's primary Army Aviation Support Facility and the U.S. Coast Guard's Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron (HITRON) are also located here, the former operating CH-47 Chinook, UH-60 Blackhawk, UH-72 Lakota and C-12 Huron aircraft, and the latter operating the MH-65C Dolphin helicopter. The airport has ARFF and structural fire protection provided by Jacksonville Fire/Rescue Station 56. Fire Station 73 (under construction) will be located on the airfield as well and will include ARFF, structural and rescue (ambulance) protection. A back-up, citywide 911 call/training center will also be located at Station 73. Cecil Airport, commonly known as either "Cecil" or "Cecil Commerce Center", also houses the FSCJ (Florida State College Jacksonville) aviation course hangar and associated training aircraft. Sunrise Aviation, a flight training school and pilot supplies vendor is the flight training provider for FSCJ's aviation program. Facilities operated by major aerospace firms such as Logistic Services International (LSI), Boeing and Flightstar Aircraft Services are also located at Cecil, providing major training, maintenance and overhaul services for a variety of U.S. military aircraft.In 2010, Cecil Airport became the United States' eighth licensed commercial spaceport and the first in Florida authorized to fly space vehicles that take off and land horizontally.The NZC identifier was the airport's previous FAA identifier when it was Naval Air Station Cecil Field, its former name until its closure as a naval air station in 1999. The NZC IATA code is now allocated to Maria Reiche Neuman Airport serving Nazca, Peru (IATA: NZC, ICAO: SPZA).

The Cecil Recreation Complex at the Cecil Commerce Center is a comprehensive recreational facility on the west side of Jacksonville, Florida. The $25 million project was part of the 2000 Better Jacksonville Plan and will eventually include 1,500 acres (6.1 km2). The City of Jacksonville, Parks and Recreation department manages the facilities.

The Jacksonville Equestrian Center is an equestrian facility at the Cecil Commerce Center in Jacksonville, Florida. It consists of an indoor multi-purpose arena, officially named Championship Arena (capacity at 4,000), two outdoor competition arenas, two outdoor warm-up arenas, a turf arena, 426 permanent stalls, and 70 Full Service RV spaces. The facility has a grand opening in March, 2004; it is home to several horse-related events. In 2007 it was projected to be the home of the Jacksonville Pelicans of the National Indoor Football League. The center is part of the Cecil Recreation Complex, the most comprehensive recreational facility on Jacksonville's Westside. The $25 million project was part of the 2000 Better Jacksonville Plan. The City of Jacksonville, Parks and Recreation department manages the facilities. They have hosted a diverse group of events which range from dressage to Rodeo; the Royal Lipizzan Stallions to the 4-H annual horse show. Non-equestrian events have included Monster truck shows, Demolition derby, music concerts and band camp.

Bishop John J. Snyder High School is a private Roman Catholic college preparatory high school in Jacksonville, Florida, United States. It was established in 2002 and located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of St. Augustine. It is named for John J. Snyder, bishop of the diocese from 1979 to 2000, and the campus was blessed by Snyder before opening. He was a regular visitor of the school while he lived. He personally chose the mascot of the school, the Cardinals.

Oakleaf Plantation is a 6,400-acre planned community in the Jacksonville area located mostly in unincorporated Clay County and partially within the Jacksonville city limits (Duval County). The Clay County portion is a census-designated place, with a 2010 population of 20,315. As of 2020, the population has risen to 28,153.

Beachside High School is a high school in the St. Johns County School District near CR-210 and I-95 in the St. Johns, Florida unincorporated community in the United States. Established recently in 2022, the attendance zone spans most of the St. Johns community. Beachside was built to alleviate students from Bartram Trail, Creekside, and Nease high schools. Its main feeder schools are Switzerland Point Middle School and Liberty Pines Academy, with other students coming from Alice B Landrum Middle School

Herlong Recreational Airport (ICAO: KHEG, FAA LID: HEG), also known as Herlong Field, then Herlong Airport, is a public airport located eight nautical miles (13 km) southwest of the central business district of Jacksonville, a city in Duval County, Florida, United States.This airport is assigned a three-letter location identifier of HEG by the Federal Aviation Administration, but it does not have an International Air Transport Association (IATA) airport code.The Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA) is the owner of all four public airports in Jacksonville and serves as the Fixed-Base Operator (FBO) at Herlong. The airport was originally built during World War II to facilitate pilot training for the Navy and Air Force. After the war, the property was given to the city, and subsequently the JAA. In recognition of the improvements and excellent operations, Herlong Recreational Airport was named the Florida Department of Transportation's General Aviation Airport of the Year in 2001.

Westside High School is a public high school in Jacksonville, Florida, United States. It is part of the Duval County School District and serves Jacksonville's Westside. The school was established in 1959 and was originally named Nathan B. Forrest High School, after Nathan Bedford Forrest, a Confederate general and first Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. The fact that the school was named for Forrest was a point of significant controversy until the Duval County School Board changed the name in 2014.

Frank H. Peterson Academies of Technology is a public, magnet high school located in Jacksonville, Florida. The school is based around Arts and Technology-based programs, such as Communications, Automotive Technology, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Aviation Technology, Childcare, Agriculture Science and Robotics. Students at Peterson earn an Industry Certificate of Completion as well as a High School Diploma. Peterson Academies also offers Advanced Placement courses. Frank H. Peterson is a Duval County Career and College Preparatory High School.

Ridgeview High School is a four-year public high school located in the Clay County School District. The school's mascot is the panther (nicknamed Slash). Ridgeview had approximately 1,600 students for the 2014–2015 school year, Ridgeview is currently rated an A-school on the FCAT 2.0 grading scale. Deborah Segreto replaced the retiring principal, John Westmoreland, in 2012. Later in 2019, Becky Murphy replaced Deborah Segreto.

As of the 2020 United States census, the total population was 1,605,848. The Jacksonville–Kingsland–Palatka, FL–GA Combined Statistical Area (CSA) had a population of 1,733,937 in 2020 and was the 34th largest CSA in the United States. The Jacksonville metropolitan area is the 40th largest in the country and the fourth largest in the State of Florida, behind the Miami, Tampa, and Orlando metropolitan areas.
