Volinaios

Psathopyrgos (Greek: Ψαθόπυργος) is a tourist village and community in the municipal unit of Rio in the northern part of Achaea, Greece. Psathopyrgos is located on the Gulf of Corinth, south east of Cape Drepano, the northernmost point of the Peloponnese peninsula. The village has a small pebble beach and it is known to the locals and tourists for its fish taverns and nice views of the green mountains south of the village. It is located 2 km north east of Drepano and 9 km north east of Rio. The Greek National Road 8A (Patras - Aigio - Corinth) pass south of the village. In the new railway line Athens-Corinth-Patras, which is currently under construction (June 2018), a railway stop is planned. The community Psathopyrgos consists of the villages Psathopyrgos and Kato Rodini.

Drepano, (Greek: Δρέπανο) is a village in the municipality of Patras, Achaea, Greece. In 2011, it had a population of 541. It is situated on the river Volinaios, about 60 m above sea level. It is 2 km west of Psathopyrgos and 7 km northwest of Rio. The Greek National Road 8A (Athens - Corinth - Patras) passes north of the village.

Kato Rodini (Greek: Κάτω Ροδινή) is a small coastal settlement in the municipal unit of Rio in the northern part of Achaea, Greece. It is located 2 km north east of Psathopyrgos and 18 km north east of Patras. The Greek National Road 8A (Patras - Aigio - Corinth) pass south of the village. In 1996 the settlement was attached to the neighboring village of Psathopyrgos. The sea and the beach of Rodini is similar to all the beaches of north Peloponnese, 3-5 meters wide with peebles and clean, fresh waters.

Arachovitika (Greek: Αραχωβίτικα) is a village and a community in the municipal unit of Rio in the northern part of Achaea, Greece. It is situated on the Gulf of Corinth, 1 km northwest of Drepano and 6 km northeast of Rio. The Greek National Road 8A (Patras - Corinth) passes south of the village, and the railway Patras - Corinth runs through the village. The community consists of the villages Arachovitika and Kato Arachovitika. There is a port next to Cape Drepano.

The Mornos (Greek: Μόρνος) is a river in Phocis and Aetolia-Acarnania in Greece. It is 70 km (43 mi) long. Its source is in the southwestern part of the Oiti mountains, near the village Mavrolithari, Phocis. It flows towards the south, and enters the Mornos Reservoir near the village Lefkaditi. The dam was completed in 1979. It leaves the reservoir towards the west, near Perivoli. The river continues through a deep, sparsely populated valley, and turns south near Trikorfo. The lower course of the Mornos forms the boundary between Phocis and Aetolia-Acarnania. The Mornos empties into the Gulf of Corinth about 3 km southeast of Nafpaktos.

Argyra (Greek: Αργυρά) is a village in the municipal unit of Rio, Achaea, Greece. It is situated in the northern foothills of the Panachaiko, at about 450 m elevation. It is 2 km west of Sella and 7 km east of Rio. In 2011, it had a population of 288. A wind energy facility has been built about 4 km to the south.

Panormus or Panormos (Ancient Greek: Πάνορμος) was a harbour of ancient Achaea, 15 stadia east of the promontory of Rhium. During the Peloponnesian War, it was at Panormus, in 429 BCE, that the Spartan fleet and infantry united prior to the Battle of Naupactus.Its site is located near the modern Tekes.

Agios Vasileios (Greek: Άγιος Βασίλειος) is a coastal village in the municipal unit of Rio, in the municipality of Patras. It is located on the Gulf of Corinth, 3 km northeast of Rio, Greece. The Greek National Road 8A (Patras - Corinth) passes south of the village.

Sella (Greek: Σελλά) is a village in the municipal unit of Rio, Achaea, Greece. It is located in the northern foothills of the Panachaiko, at 500 m above sea level. The river Volinaios flows east and north of the village. It is 2 km east of Argyra and 9 km east of Rio. In 2011, it had a population of 302.

Platani (Greek: Πλατάνι) is a village in the municipal unit of Rio, Achaea, Greece. In 2011, it had a population of 481. It is situated in the northern foothills of the Panachaiko mountain. It is 4 km east of Rio, and 2 km south of Agios Vasileios.

The Battle of Naupactus was a naval battle in the Peloponnesian War. The battle, which took place a week after the Athenian victory at Rhium, set an Athenian fleet of twenty ships, commanded by Phormio, against a Peloponnesian fleet of seventy-seven ships, commanded by Cnemus. In the battle, the Peloponnesians drew the Athenians out from their anchorage at Antirrhium by sailing into the Gulf of Corinth, moving as if to attack the vital Athenian base at Naupactus. The Athenians were forced to shadow their movements, sailing eastward along the northern shore of the gulf. Attacking suddenly, the Peloponnesians drove nine Athenian ships ashore and pursued the others towards Naupactus; victory seemed securely in their hands. At the entrance to the harbor of Naupactus, however, the last Athenian ship to reach the harbor turned the tide by circling around an anchored merchant ship to ram and sink its leading pursuer. Confusion set in among the Peloponnesians, and the newly emboldened Athenians set out after them and routed them. In all, the Athenians recaptured all but one of their nine grounded ships and seized six Peloponnesian ships. This surprising victory preserved Athens' naval dominance and kept Naupactus secure; the arrival of an additional twenty Athenian ships shortly afterwards secured the victory and put an end to Sparta's attempt to take the offensive in the Northwest.

The Fethiye Mosque (Greek: Φετιχιέ τζαμί; Turkish: Fethiye Camii, lit. 'Mosque of the Conquest') was an Ottoman mosque in Nafpaktos, Greece. It was built in the orders of Sultan Bayezid II immediately after the capture of the city from the Venetians in 1499, and was the city's main mosque throughout the Ottoman period. It was also known after its founder as the Bayezid-i Veli Mosque. The mosque has been extensively restored and now functions as an exhibition hall.
