The district governs three elementary schools (Cotton Creek School, Robert Crown School, and Wauconda Grade School), two middle schools (Matthews Middle School and Wauconda Middle School), and one high school (Wauconda High School).

Wauconda ( or ) is a village in Lake County, Illinois, United States. Per the 2020 census, the population was 14,084. It is the site of the Wauconda Bog Nature Preserve, a National Natural Landmark. Wauconda Community Unit School District 118 serves students from Pre-K through 12th grade who live in Wauconda and surrounding communities (Island Lake, Lakemoor, Volo, and unincorporated sections of McHenry County). Fremont School District 79 also serves students from communities from northern part of Wauconda.

Bangs Lake is a natural glacial lake that is located in Wauconda, Illinois. It is named after Justus Bangs, the first permanent settler in Wauconda, who arrived in the summer of 1836. Justus Bangs reportedly named Wauconda as well, supposedly after a Native American Indian character in a story Bangs had read. However, some believe that Wauconda was named after an Indian chief who is buried on the southern shore of Bangs Lake. In the early 1900s, the Palatine, Lake Zurich and Wauconda Railroad brought vacationers to Wauconda from Chicago, and the beaches of Bangs Lake continued to be a popular vacation destination through the 1960s. In the 1980 film The Blues Brothers, beach scenes were filmed along the shores of Bangs Lake.

Wauconda Bog Nature Preserve is a tamarack bog nature preserve located in Wauconda (a suburb of Chicago) Lake County, Illinois. It is a National Natural Landmark.

Island Lake is a reservoir located in the village of Island Lake, Illinois, in the United States. It has several small islands.

Established in 1960 by the Grams family, the Volo Auto Museum is an automobile museum and collector car dealer in the Chicago suburb of Volo, Illinois, USA. The museum contains an exhibit of collectors' autos from vintage to modern classics, with the main focus being American cars of the 1950–1980 period, TV and movie cars, bizarre cars, cars previously owned by the rich and famous, and a large, one-of-a-kind, Disney and Looney Tunes characters display. Unique to this museum is that many of the vehicles on display (in five large buildings) are for sale. One of 33 exhibits on the 25-acre museum campus is a military-oriented "Armed Forces Exhibit," added in the late 2000s. Of the 4 antique malls on the museum grounds, one is reported to be haunted and has become a magnet for ghost hunters and sightings and an episode of the TV show Ghost Lab. The museum has its own TV series on History called "Volo, House of Cars" beginning in 2017.

Volo is a village in Lake County, Illinois, United States. It was incorporated as a village on 26 April 1993. Per the 2020 census, the population was 6,122.

WJLV (94.7 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a Contemporary Christian music format from K-LOVE. Licensed to Jackson, Mississippi, the station is currently owned by the Educational Media Foundation (EMF).

Port Barrington (also referred to as Fox River Valley Gardens or FRG) is a village in Lake and McHenry counties in the U.S. state of Illinois. It was formerly known as Fox River Valley Gardens, but the name was changed in 2002 to Port Barrington. Per the 2020 census, the population was 1,584.
