The El Dorado Correctional Facility (abbreviated EDCF) is a maximum security prison located east of the city of El Dorado in rural Prospect Township, Butler County, Kansas, United States. EDCF is the location of the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) Reception and Diagnostic Unit (RDU), which processes every male inmate when they are received into custody. RDU helps determine the inmate's custody level, mental health classification, and educational program needs before he is assigned to a facility. EDCF has two general population cellhouses and one medium security dormitory. EDCF is administratively linked to two minimum security units, formerly "honor camps", one in El Dorado and one in Toronto, Kansas. In 2009, the announcement was made that the state would be closing both minimum security units, due to budget constraints. As of 2015, medium and minimum security units in Oswego were administratively part of EDCF. EDCF is also the location of the state's de facto death row. Inmates sentenced to death are housed in administrative segregation ("AdSeg"). The state currently has nine inmates on death row. Executions, however, take place at the Lansing Correctional Facility (LCF) in Lansing. The state has not had an execution since June 22, 1965, when spree killers George York and James Latham were hanged there.

El Dorado Township is a township in Butler County, Kansas, USA. As of the 2000 census, its population was 1,700. El Dorado Township was organized in 1867.

The Yingling Brothers Auto Company, at 411 S. Main St. in El Dorado, Kansas, was built in 1917. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.It is a two-story brick Early Commercial-style building on a concrete foundation.

The Butler County Courthouse is a public courthouse constructed in 1909, in El Dorado, Kansas. It was designed by George P. Washburn & Sons to serve as the main county courthouse for Butler County. The Romanesque Revival courthouse was typical of Washburn's courthouse designs; of the eleven surviving courthouses designed by the architect, nine are Romanesque. The red brick courthouse features a central clock tower and four octagonal corner towers, a statue of the Goddess of Justice, and a hipped roof with cross gables, all common features of Washburn's work. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.Butler County was organized on February 11, 1859. The County Clerk has land records from 1887 and birth and death records from 1887 to 1911.The courthouse is still in operation as such. Self-guided tours are also available during normal working hours.

The El Dorado Carnegie Library is a former public library, constructed in 1912, in El Dorado, Kansas. It was designed by architect John F. Stanton. In 1959, a new library was built in El Dorado; the original was eventually purchased privately and in the 1980s it was renovated and converted into private offices: from 2002, an architectural firm. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

The El Dorado Missouri Pacific Depot is a former passenger train station in El Dorado, Kansas, United States. It is a one-story, red-brick structure with a red-tile roof and wide, overhanging eaves designed by E. M. Tucker, Chief Engineer of the Missouri Pacific, in the Mission architectural style.

El Dorado ( EL-də-RAY-doh) is a city and county seat of Butler County, Kansas, United States. It is situated along the Walnut River in the central part of Butler County and located in south-central Kansas. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 12,870. It is home to Butler Community College.
