Aurora High School (Ohio)

Aurora Center Historic District is a historic district in Aurora, Ohio, United States. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, it contains 21 contributing buildings.

Aurora is a city in northwestern Portage County, Ohio, United States. A suburb in between Akron and Cleveland, the population was 17,239 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Akron metropolitan area. Some say Aurora was the name of the daughter of Major Amos Spafford, while others believe the village was named after Aurora, the Roman goddess of dawn. The city is co-extensive with, and formed from, the former township of Aurora, which was formed from the Connecticut Western Reserve. Aurora was designated a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation.

The Aurora City School District is a public school district in Aurora, Ohio, U.S. The district serves primary and secondary students in the city of Aurora and part of the adjacent village of Reminderville. The district operates five buildings and, as of the 2018–19 school year, has an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students in grades preschool through twelve. District offices are housed in the historic Aurora Township School, which was built in 1912.

Aurora is the former train station serving the residents of Aurora, Ohio, located within Portage County, Ohio, USA. The station was constructed in 1872 by the New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio Railroad, which had absorbed the former Cleveland and Mahoning Valley Railroad, which ran from Cleveland, Ohio to Leavittsburg, Ohio. The next station to the northwest was Geauga Lake, serving the Geauga Lake amusement park. The next station to the southeast was Mantua. The line was entirely acquired by the Erie Railroad in 1941 after dissolution of the New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio. The last train left Aurora station on January 14, 1977. After the line was abandoned, the rails were taken up. The station depot, one of three still standing along the branch (along with Solon and Mantua), was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on May 22, 1986.

The C. R. Howard House, at 411 E. Garfield St. in Aurora, Ohio is a historic cobblestone architecture house built in 1853. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.It is located on the Chagrin River at a former settlement known as Aurora Depot, half a mile from Aurora Center.It is a two=story house built by an M. Smith for sawmill owner C.R. Howard. Its walls are faced with stone cobbles, and it has stone quoins. It has a steep gable on its front with eaves decorated by scroll-sawn vergeboard, topped by an octagonal pinnacle and pendant.This house is believed to be the only example of cobblestone architecture within the Western Reserve area, although it was fairly common in western New York state at that time, and was spreading west through Ohio, Illinois and Wisconsin, It includes aspects of Greek Revival and Gothic Revival style.

Tinkers Creek State Park is a public recreation area that under the name Tinkers Creek Area is part of Liberty Park in Streetsboro, Portage County, Ohio, United States. The area's small lakes and marshes provide food and habitat for beavers and thousands of waterfowl. The park offers archery, spring-fed fishing lake, hiking trails, and picnicking areas.

SeaWorld Ohio was a theme park and marine zoological park, located in Aurora, Ohio. It was owned and operated by SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, formerly known as Busch Entertainment Corporation. The Ohio location was the second SeaWorld park to be built in the chain, following SeaWorld San Diego which opened just six years earlier. The park was developed by George Millay, founder of the SeaWorld brand. Wildwater Kingdom, a waterpark built by Cedar Fair in 2005, occupied the property until its closure in September 2016.

Geauga Lake was an amusement park in Bainbridge Township and Aurora, Ohio. It was established in 1887, in what had been a local recreation area adjacent to a lake of the same name. The first amusement ride was added in 1889, and the park's first roller coaster – later known as the Big Dipper – was built in 1925. The park was sold to Funtime, Inc., in 1969 and was expanded over the years with additional rides and amenities. Funtime was acquired by Premier Parks in 1995, and for the 2000 season, they re-branded Geauga Lake as Six Flags Ohio, adding four new roller coasters. The following year, Six Flags bought the adjacent SeaWorld Ohio and combined the two parks under the name Six Flags Worlds of Adventure. The park changed ownership again in 2004 after a purchase by Cedar Fair. The park's SeaWorld portion was transformed into a water park in 2005, and together they became known as Geauga Lake and Wildwater Kingdom. On September 21, 2007, less than a week after Geauga Lake closed for the season, Cedar Fair announced that the amusement park would be permanently closed. The water park continued to operate as Wildwater Kingdom through the 2016 season, before meeting the same fate.

Wildwater Kingdom was a water park located in Aurora and Bainbridge Township, Ohio, United States. Owned by Cedar Fair, the park opened in 2005 as part of the larger Geauga Lake and Wildwater Kingdom resort. The site was previously the location of SeaWorld Ohio (1970–2000) and later served as the marine life section of the larger Six Flags Worlds of Adventure (2001–2003). Worlds of Adventure was purchased by Cedar Fair in 2004 and the marine life area was converted into a water park for the 2005 season. Cedar Fair closed the Geauga Lake amusement park following the 2007 season but kept the water park open. It was first known as Geauga Lake's Wildwater Kingdom, and the name was later shortened to Wildwater Kingdom. Its normal operating season extended from late May to Labor Day each year. The park featured 15 water slides including Thunder Falls, which opened as the tallest water slide complex in Ohio. On August 19, 2016, Cedar Fair released a statement announcing the permanent closure of Wildwater Kingdom. Its final day of operation was September 5, 2016.

Big Dipper was a wooden roller coaster located at the defunct Geauga Lake amusement park in Bainbridge Township, Ohio. Originally opened in 1925 as Sky Rocket, it was renamed Clipper in the late 1940s and eventually Big Dipper in 1969. It was the oldest operating roller coaster in Ohio and seventh-oldest in the United States when it closed in 2007. Designed by John A. Miller, the Big Dipper was also one of the last remaining roller coasters in the world from the designer. American Coaster Enthusiasts awarded the coaster its ACE Coaster Classic and ACE Coaster Landmark designations. Efforts to sell, preserve, and restore the ride were unsuccessful. The ride was demolished on October 17, 2016.

Raging Wolf Bobs was a wooden roller coaster located at Geauga Lake amusement park in Ohio. Designed by Curtis D. Summers to resemble Bobs, a popular roller coaster at the defunct Riverview Park in Chicago, Raging Wolf Bobs was constructed by the Dinn Corporation and opened to the public in 1988. It operated until June 16, 2007, following an accident involving the derailing of a train that unexpectedly rolled backward on one of the track's hills. Later that season, park owners Cedar Fair announced the permanent closure of Geauga Lake, sealing the fate of Raging Wolf Bobs.

Villain was a wooden roller coaster at the Geauga Lake amusement park in Aurora, Ohio. It was designed by the now-defunct Custom Coasters International (CCI). The ride opened as a part of the four-coaster expansion Six Flags brought to Geauga Lake between 1999 and 2000. It was a wooden hybrid, which means it had steel supports but had wood track. When it originally opened, the ride was moderately smooth, but by 2001 it deteriorated and was re-tracked during the off-season. This was the second CCI coaster to feature a "trick track" element (the first was Shivering Timbers at Michigan's Adventure) where the track banks from one side to another while staying otherwise on a straight path. Rocky Mountain Construction, an Idaho-based manufacturing firm, handled the construction of the ride. The ride had been retracked by Martin & Vleminckx.Currently, the Villain's trains are at Kings Island, another Cedar Fair park in Mason, OH. It is unknown what they will be used for. On June 17, 2008, Villain was sold for scrap to Cleveland Scrap for $2,500. The ride has since been demolished.
